If skill > equipment, then why...
enxa
...does nobody want to buy a +29 hp upgrade? or -5/19 for shield, or 19% longer ehcnantments... Why, oh why???
Chik N Nuggets
they arent perfect....
Dallcingi
Because it is not perfect.
(nuggets beat me)
and perfect is cheaper now than what they used to be.
only people who dont care about it use it or if they are poor they use non perf.

Because everyone has a little elitism in them. They want everything to be perfect. If it's not perfect it's not worth their time.
BladeDVD
They are also more common than perfect mods, so players probably already have them, or could easily get them if that was all they wanted rather than pay money for them.
Cherng Butter
Skill is important yeah, but you shouldn't really be gimping yourself if you can help it. Use perfect equipment, and then you can worry about skill

However, I doubt you'll win/loose a game because of 1%+ on enchants... (Could be tough)
But yeah, for most of the people, it's elitsm... Why have +29 when you can have +30...
Cathode_Reborn
Because if im gonna use an item that's permanent, might as well spend a few extra plat to make sure all the stats are perfect.
Same reason why my phys classes don't use uncustomized weapons.

but whats the REAL reason behind 'its not perfect'.
Its not like that 1 hp would make any difference in any battle.
Its quite ironic that people say that in gw you dont have to grind for equipment because it doesnt matter, and then they exert this sort of attitude. Interesting phenomenon.

Because perfect equipment is still cheap.
On a related note, can you imagine how awful this game would be if FoW armor gave 1 more AL than other armors? Just 1 AL.
...
Yeah, this is why I stick to GW; I have faith they won't cross that line. Sure, there are PvE titles and skills that flirt with it, but at least those can't be bought.
You DON'T have to grind for it. Max anything can be obtained in a matter of hours in PvE, seconds in PvP. And yes, I have sometimes avoided death by a single hitpoint, and seen others do the same.

How is not taking sub-par equipment elitism?
It's just logic. Either you pay some amount of gold now for something you may even replace in the future, or just pay a little extra for something you'd have no reason to replace.
And yes, I've been infused on ~1hp many a time.

Like everyone has said it's to have it be perfect.
But TBH when it gets down to the point where you're having to survive by 1 hp, then most of your party is prob. close to dying. Most of my heroes get the "imperfect stuff"-like my Morgahn rocked a +28 shield for almost several months before I got a +30 for cheap. Another spear I rotate on my heores still has a +29 wrapping.
1 HP won't make or break anything, it's just a bit of OCD in the human race.

If anything lots of people are unable to find those +29HP mods or the 19%longer enchanting for sale. Granted thats also a result of not many people wanting them in the first place but still you don't see many people selling those non perfect mods.
Overall its because perfect mods aren't that expensive regardless, you aren't going to break the bank buying them.
Also the non perfect mods are generally found more easily, so if you're willing to use non-perfect mods, you've probably saved them when you found them and then use them when the chance arises.
I know personally I save a +29hp spear mod and just a couple of weeks got a new spear to put it on.

perfect items = +1 to e-peen. all else fails.
That's how people think. Doesn't mean it makes sense.

Me finds it easier to work out sums with perfect mods.
Right off of hand, what would you say was easier to work out?
450 - 341 or 438 - 341 ?
Yeah and it also looks better.

I find enough 27-29 upgrades in loot, and heroes are perfectly happy with them.
For perfect ones, it depends. +5 energy or 15^50 are easy to find, or at very least, I've got adequate stock. For others, I'll shell out some money, but rarely.
Put simply - if one buys a 100k+ weapon, then shelling out a few k for perfect mod is the least of problems.

I won't deny that one extra hit point has saved my life in PvP. I have hung at 1 HP, and that gave my monkey just enough time to get a heal on me. Having that little bit extra has saved me countless times.
But TBH, I have the perfect equipment because it's perfect

Would you buy a car with a scratch on it?
Considering how cheap and plentiful mods are why not buy the best?

Not sure if it is still true, but when some of us tested the actual length of enchantments with 19% vs 20% on a staff mod there was no difference at all, but that was done pre-nf and without looking at the effect of enchantment enhancement from other spells - i.e. blessed aura. I used to hand out 19% enchant staffs all the time when kurzick faction farming, back in the day = shadow form ran out at the exact same moment either way..
I think as a general rule, getting rich in GW is more about making do with non-flashy stuff and being thrifty rather than finding some crazy farm that nets you super-cash.

Oh i found a nice weapon with a +29, +19%, 14^50, +4^50 etc and it's a merch.. That one more little number and it's a salvage and store for a rainy day.. It really shouldn't make so much of a difference but if we all settled for second best there would be no drive to make things bigger and better.. It's that competitive nature in us all.
BlackSephir
Because small numbers (when added) do matter. Lots of times I was left with 1hp. If I had +29 hp instead of +30, I'd be dead
MSecorsky
Because of the simple little fact that it IS a skill > equipment you have people wanting equal gear to everyone else, especially if you're going to go PvP. If you give up even a few points of something here and there then you actually are giving up something fairly substantial in the long run.
Everyone else has perfect.
Perfect is cheap.
Get perfect to even things out.

If you had to choose between a hand missing one finger, or a hand with five fingers which would you pick? Sure a 3 finger 1 thumb hand can still grab things just fine, but... wouldn't you rather have all 5?
placebo overdose
i base alot of it on neatness >_> i like how +30 makes my total health look my war has either 600hp or 570 or something like that no sloppy numbers :P
kazjun
Why wouldn't you? If you're going to buy something, are you going to buy something that isn't perfect and you'd replace eventually, or would you buy the max (which isn't really expensive nowadays) and never have to buy another? Unless you're just starting out, it's far better just to buy the one time purchase than waste money on some temp mod and then buy a perfect later anyway.
Zahr Dalsk
Some of us like to kit out our PvE characters in perfect equipment and use them in PvP with the exact same equipment and skills as we would use on a PvP character. Note that this is different from the people who use sub-par PvE equipment in PvP, they're called idiots.
Malice Black
That missing 1hp bugs me.

Oh, and I also hate having uneven health. I like nice solid numbers like 600. I don't like seeing '599.'

Different between perf and slightly unperf mods is negligible these days.. If you have the cash, why not pay a few extra k?
Kerwyn Nasilan
They don't thats why I sell my perfects and use my one offs.

Doesn't bother me. I have swords and shields with 28-29 HP. I sell max ones, cause I care about money more than my survival. That's why I've got 5500+ deaths!
Winterclaw
Most people merch non-max as it is too hard to sell for something that fetches so little. If I could put a 14>50 in an auction house and have it sold automatically in an hour, I'd be happy to sell the things. However when it took me over a week to sell a 20/20 sundering mod for the going price, I'm not going to waste much time for an extra 100gp.
cosyfiep
I've used them....still have them on some of my weapons and I have no problems with them.
Kusandaa
For my own use, off the weapons I found... missing 1 or 2hp isn't much different. If I come across a perfect mod, I'll tend to change it or if it really doesn't bother me for now, I'll sell it for a bit more cash.
My necro's still running with a -5/19% on his shield and +29hp. Can't be bothered changing the things.
However, when I BUY something off someone else, I'll tend to go to perfect mods though.
