GWII: Tyria, Cantha, Elona, and the Rift

The Dragons will undoubtedly take absolute control over whatever territories they make their homes in. These monsters are like.. anti-Gods.
Well, for every group of good guys, there's going to be an insanely powerful bad one. (Abaddon)
But for every group of bad guys, there's going to be a pathetically weak good one.
I can imagine one of the dragons making a utopia deep inside of its destroyed wasteland of woe. He may not be entirely good (eating random servants, demanding absurd tasks, etc.), but may recognize the main character as a worthy/interesting specimen, out of benevolence/boredom.
This may lead to the "Dragon Wars" XD
Cantha, shrouded in mystery, completely isolated... etc. May end up as a great miserable city of chaos, pain and fear. I can imagine ANet taking a piece of communist history and slapping "Cantha" all over it.
On the other hand, this string of Canthan emperors forcing unity and isolation could be the start of a technological/knowledge revolution of sorts. Imagine the renaissance taking place in this locked up country; The warring states have been united, so the people may not have much else to do besides grow and think and work. 250 years is a long time. There's an immense difference between 1758 and 2008. Personally, I don't want to see any goddamn'd computers in my Guild Wars... But, whatever. It's not completely out there. =]
Palawa Joko is another odd variable. This guy is the scourge of vabbi, yes, but I can imagine him maintaining a relatively powerful and productive country, despite his selfish demonic ways. I can see a mutual hatred between him and the Crystal Desert's dragon arise; Joko's legion of undead fighting the Desert Dragon's horde of demonic dragon spawns. A constant struggle for ownership over the desolation.
Finally, there's the rift. I'm -really- looking forward to revisiting the Fissure of Woe and the Underworld. 250 years ago, your character repelled Menzies' forces, and restored order to the Underworld. The Fissure's patches of grass will probably spread all over, and the volcanic activity may cease. Would it be too unlikely for humans to make their escape and settle for this relatively peaceful land? I'm sure the Ghostly heroes wouldn't mind some company.
What about the underworld? Without all of those damn Terrorwebs, I bet the spirits will end up constructing cities around Grenth's domain. It could be like Bleach's Soul Society.

gods are (arguably) pure energy and sentience (though the gods have physical "avatars" which take a form that suits them )

Interesting theory, although with Cantha, I don't think they are going to do much in the way of progress. When civilizations are isolated and ruled under a dictatorship, dictators tend to keep things the way they are so they know they can control things.
Personally I don't see Cantha growing much in the 250 years. Except perhaps the Jade Sea un-Jadifying and the Echovald forest coming back to life.

I think it pretty cool ideas if I say so but like to see the FOW wars in like more of a Menzie winning and Balthzar is on the ropes or something to that effect and in the Underworld city for the soul but Dhun still has minions attack to terrorize the souls and still P.O. the reaper
DarkFlame
They are god realms. What makes you think Balth and Grenth will let you stay for long before they come down themselves and kick you out or turn you into ghosties too?
Eldin
Cantha is not "evil" now, if anything it is stronger - the continent is now united under one power, there's no stupid Kurzick/Luxon struggle, and all those annoying critters are gone.
Also, same with Elona. Palawa rules it now, but I believe he allows Istan, Kourna, and Vabbi to go about the way they did in our time so long as they pay tribute to him.
I'd love to see how the UW and FoW have changed, and I hope there will be an NPC/statue in it somewhere that will blurt out the names of our GW1 characters who have cleared them, so we can gloat and the GW2 newbies feel bad.
I am thinking that much of GW2 is based on what we did in GW1, and ANet is actually considering everything we have done in GW1 and how it affects GW2, in a sense that their setting for GW2 is based partly on what the players did.
Be funny if Smite Crawlers are extinct now, or the Voice of Grenth/Champion of Balthazar are now pimpin' after all those 1k payments.

Gods are pure crap. Acording to GW2 lore, they can be defeated by a bunch of Big Ugly Lizards.
About Cantha: Well...it remembers me the third Reich: Racist and with airs of superority. We must screw Usoku. Maybe the Tengu guerrilla will aid us
About Elona: Palawa is the best ruler. No doub. Whats more, Sunspears must die. I will support Palawa, and you?
About Teh Raft: I think Dwayna, Melandru and Lyssa´s realms will be added. If not, I will kill Balthy and Grenthy for machism.

The first being its the Underworld: Nightmares such as Aatxe spawn there. The only place civilised to a degree is the Forgotton Vale - the only area Ghosts can go in the Underworld without being ripped up. They dont go about creating Cities - each area in the Underworld has a purpose such as the TSM being a reminder to all saying not to mess with Grenth, the Spawning Pits being somewhat the source of peoples nightmares and the Chaos Planes being Grenths victory reminder.
The second reason is that Dhuum isnt gone yet. Like Menzies he stilll exists somewere (Where that somewere is could be explored in the future but who knows) therefore the Terrorwebs could return. With no heroes for a good 100 or so years the Underworld is an easy target.

Personally, I thing that Cantha Empire will see himself as the last stronghold of human civilization in Guild Wars 2. All other human nations are weak or had fallen, Elona is under the control of undead warlord (Palawa Joko), Tyria is in ruins, Cantha is the only truly strong human nation in Gw2.
On the other hand, Usuko (unless it's immortal) will be dead by the time of Gw2 (250 years) their reign ttake place 50 years after Eye of the North and Ancient Dragon crisis starts 100 years before Guild Wars 2.
So, there are gap of 200 years. I think that Usuko will be most likely being remembered at most as a controversial figure like Genghis Khan (builder and conquerer at the same time). After Usoku reign it’s another history.
Maybe the Tengu will be fully integrated into the Canthan Army as auxiliary elite troops. Maybe Cantha will start to research powerful and forbidden ancient magics (like the Oni magic or Shiro’ken constructs)to fight the Ancient Dragons, perhaps Cantha will discover the secret of steam power and start a Industrial Revolution (ironclad warships).

I expect Cantha will be the most powerful civilisation in the world in GW2, and far and away stronger than the other human kingdoms; there is no evidence to suggest it has grown weaker since the unification in Usoku's time. Technological advancement wouldn't really surprise me, but the writers may not choose to take that path. Even if they did, early Industrial era is the most I'd expect.
However, something to remember; the story we've seen for GW2 so far seems to indicate Cantha hasn't changed much since Usoku's day; his successors don't seem much different. Thus you'll probably see a fairly oppressive regime in place there.
Whether the Canthans are involved in any way with the struggle against the Dragons I don't know. I have my doubts, since the pitch on Cantha right now screams out "slated for an expansion", especially being incommunicado and all that... and if we don't get to deal with it, there's not much point putting it in the plot. What would be interesting, and strangely fitting for Cantha, is if it had in fact been taken under the thumb, so to speak, of one of these ancient dragons and was now doing its bidding.
Also, the same article makes it seem fairly clear that there are no Tengu in Cantha any more; they probably left for Tyria during Usoku's day, and they wouldn't have been allowed back. Any that tried to resist (e.g. probably the Sensali) ... let's just say you don't say no to the Canthan army when it's THAT big and get away with it. If there are any Tengu in Cantha, they will almost certainly be in hiding. The Naga, Wardens and others likewise.

I to think Cantha will be doing the bidding of a Wrym like dragon that they have soo many statues of. Whether or not the Canthan Wrym dragons have anything to do with/are on the same side as the Tyrian dragons. Perhaps a dragon civil war? All fighting for power?
Isnt speculation fun?

Seraphim of Chaos
I think Canthans will be the strongest because Asians are good at PvP.

LOL!
Cantha will definitely build up like communistic China or something, but I hope we get to kill them because Cantha sucks harder than black holes.

When reading Cantha story for GW 2 and Usoku I always see four words - "Ieyasu Tokugawa" and "feudal Japan"...
The story seems very similiar for me, and if this is ANet plan we could probably stop thinking about technological adventage in Catha :P

You know half of it is just as an excuse for them not to put Cantha in GW2 that heavily.
I hope when the Canthans immigrated to Tyria, they left their stinky assassins behind! Rits, I admit, are the only unique non-core class that I wouldn't mind in GW2.

I want Ascalon back....why does ANET enjoy shafting Ascalon so much?
Though I like the idea of playing human characters that fight and live in ruins much like post-searing. Hit and run for the last tidbits of humanity left in Tyria.

Can't agree with you on the assassin part, but you can be sure I'll be on of the many people to be playing a Charr. GOGO 55 Charr Monk. I'd gladly take the runes and stuff off my monk and put them on a charr if it mean't that it couldn't die easily.

there is the Light House dragon on Shing Jea/Kaineng to think about too, that was active at the release of factions; breathing fire etc.

Those are simply statues though..Decoration. Keep in mind it is the Empire of the Dragon.

i think to get into cantha you would have to sneak in cuz theres no tengu or togo to help you now the ruler of cantha made sure that there are only humans in cantha so there might be some rebels to help you but other than that your going to have a tough time getting in
P.S. did anyone notice that salma is going to be queen salma is gw2 so that means shes ove 250 years old lolz

Now that I think about it, the four legions which will be in GW2 are the same as GW1 and I believe that none of the legions focus with female characters. I believe that each Legion focuses on different professions, so if that is true, then we have fought all four legions and, of course, no female charr were in combat. So if I am correct there, then there is no legion thats only female charr.

I reckon Female charr would make much better assassins, if we look at male Charr as Lions and and female Charr as Lionesses I think its quite clear how silent things of that size can be :P... except lions don't wear armor, but you get the metaphor. Charr are big cats.
Sirius-NZ
True that. With proper discipline (as opposed to running in yelling that your target is about to meet a bloody grave), Charr could probably do the job quite well there.

To return to the original topic, I think that Usoku will be a dystopian jerk, and will find some way to survive, so we can kill him.
Palawa Joko, on the other hand, will have a lot of redeeming qualities, but will still be a villain.
And in response to the "Canthan Dragon" comment, the dragon is a symbol and poetic name for Cantha, but it's possible that Usoku is somehow being played by one of the Dragons, or has tamed one. It would be cool if the Deep Sea Dragon turned out to be keeping the seas closed on his orders...but unlikely.

If I remember correctly, many Chinese emperors wanted to sustain life so they could rule over their empire for as long as possible. I read a book a while ago about that, I cant remember the name >.> they would use all type of chemicals. One of them being Dragons Blood.
So possibley the involvement of the dragon isnt unbelivable, because it would certainly make sense. Another example of hidden involvement is Abaddon and the Lich, and Shiro.
pff I went off on one there, but I hope it makes sense ^^

Suppose Abaddon's plans had succeeded and he had taken over the world and had become restored to full power. With the cooperation of Dhoom and Menzies and all the forces under them, including such generals as Shiro, the Lich, Mallyx, what would have become of the world if the dragons had awakened under such circumstances!
