When GW2 is released...
Tzu
What will you do with your character and your stuff when GW2 is released?
Will you continue to play the old campaigns or will you throw it all away for the new system?
As for now, I've heard you can only migrate your name, some titles and some items to the from GW to GW2 through the Hall Of Monuments for those who have GW:EN only.
I wasn't going to buy GW:EN but I think I just might have to now :/
I think it really sucks that I won't be able to migrate things like money and good weapons ...
anyway, what do you think? what are you going to do?

It's just a game. And your weapons, titles, armor, minis (when you add it to your HoM) will give you something in return when GW2 is released.
Vitues
i know some people who have a lot of hours in Guild Wars and their not to happy about loosing there prized possesions.
It is kinda lame how you cannot add your perfect unconditional weapon to your hall of monument, lame destroyer weapons. *Insert laughter here*

phoo slaya
i think most ppl will sell off stuff to get stuff to put in their hall of monuments, people will buy all the elite sets, minipets, destroyer weaps. there might be some last minute title whoring too. i can see a lot of people buying ale for 200 each from the store. WAIT, just thought of something, after GW2 comes out, will you STILL be able to put stuff in your hall of monuments effectivley transfering it to your GW2 account?
warcrap
i honestly dont care about starting over i mean think about it you only got to lvl 20 and you went through the storyline!
so in gw2 get to lvl 20 and then you wont feel like you've started over as long as you dont lvl up anymore lol

Games end. They always do. I'll be moving on to GW2 if I'm there, making a new character and not looking back to GW.

I don't think I really care, it's not that I lose my GW1 account, I can play on it whenever I want

if you could move all your loot to GW2, would you really be happy? You would turn it into a continuation of the same. sometimes a fresh start is just what these things need. If you truly cannot bring yourself to make the change... GW servers will still be running. You can go get a dose of nostalgia if you want to.
Phoenix Tears
Until at least my Main Character is not GWAMM and has a Complete Hall of Monuments and all PvP Titles so high, that they can be displayed at the HoM, I won't go to GW2
Alone this fact makes this multi character unfriendly game a Hell Trip that takes ages to get done...
So unless Anet makes not finally with release of GW2 all those account based changes, to make out of this game again a multi character friendly game, I believe, very much people will keep playing GW1 for a looooooooooong time...

It all depends on how good GW2 will be.
I will most likely move over to GW2 and leave GW1 behind.
To be honest, I'm a relativist. Everything is relative, even whether I'll choose to move on or not.

I played titles in GW simply to have something to play, since there isnt much else to do at a certain point, but the hours and hours of investment with the GW2 gain soley as the goal just isnt worth it to me.
Knightly Bird
This is why unlike everyone else I focus on one character maxing all possible titles until GW2 comes out to give myself the most availability in GW2 from my HoM
Horus
tbh i would prefer that noone could bring anything over to GW2 through HoM - it would therefore mean fresh start for everyone, everyone would be equal, no like "you was noob in GW1, didn't have cash to buy all those mini pets/armors/etc". I really hope that HoM items won't have too much of effect on GW2!
anyway, i'll 100% move to GW2

They should make third birthday pets untradeable, to lock in the vets! (Dodges rotten tomatoes)

When GW2 comes out I will be solely focused on just playing with the skills and making builds. I won't have time to remember GW. XD

I can't wait for GW2. The newness of starting your first GW1 char will be open again. It will probably be similar in many ways. It's the differences that will keep people playing, though. I'm looking forward to being level one again with starter armour and no money (I hope HoM won't effect this too much).
I have 10 level 20 chars who have been thorugh the campaigns. There is still a lot to do but it's starting to feel like grinding. Without GW2 I'd be looking for another game or heading into PvP for lenghty periods.
I doubt I'll play GW after GW2 comes out (as long as most guildies migrate as well). Playing a new game with the same people sounds great to me. WHy wouldn't you want something new?

I will probably leave to GW2 unless it continues ANet's current trend of crappiness (consumables, PvE skills).
However I will always love GW1, which I have played since 2005 and have so many fond memories of the new experiences and old days. I will probably still play GW1 from time to time to see how things have changed, and probably check out the holidays.
I have a feeling the HoM inheritance will be a huge ripoff, but it's still a plus, a symbol if your dedication to the first game, so I work on my HoM as well (but only on my main, which will be inherited by my GW2 main - all my other chars really have little to offer in the way of inheritance).

But yeah, I'm with you I can't wait to be a newbie with everyone else again. It's no fun going at it when everyone already knows what to do.

Hopefully I'll reach all my major GW1/HoM goals by the time GW2 comes out, but if not I'll be SOL.
Buster
Moving on to GW2 ofcourse. GW1 was great but time for something new and better.

The GW acccount will still be there and so will (hopefully) everything in the inventory if and when I feel like going back.

Leaving old GW behind won't bother me a bit. It's old now and there's nothing left to do but grind and farm for vanity items. I've done every quest and every mission and finished all the chapters an expansion now. Running around farming for $$'s isn't my idea of fun after I've done it a 1000 times and got everything I want out of the games equipment. So I look foward to the change that is coming. Can hardly wait. <grin>

Transfers between GW1 and GW2 will not have a "direct effect" as many assume I believe. By this I mean you won't be able to have your 15^50 20/20 +30 Fellblade be transfered to your level 1 warrior in GW2...
Personally I think titles (either individually or based off of KOABD rank) will reward players with things such as skills, perhaps a few beginner items, some perm bonuses (different emotes?)
All in all, just like how you could play without pre-order weps in GW, you'll be able to do the same in GW2.

Besides, GW1 isn't closing and you aren't paying a monthly fee anyway. I really don't get all this I'm gonna quit GW1 for GW2 crap.
wakefield
I dont understand why some people want to bring all their stuff over from GW1. The best times for me during GW was figuring everything out the first place, now that I have everything Im bored.

I will keep my main in GW1 for at least 6 months before transfering the monument. I wanne know the mechanics of GW2 and playtest with all the classes and whatnot to see what class/race fits me most. Mostly to make the right choice with what character I will play coming years and to avoid making a new character after 2 years.
Maybe I need to do something I haven't done yet in GW1 to get something in GW2, so I'll take it easy the first 6 months, enjoy the new stuff.

When GW2 comes out, I'm waiting two months after it does to see what people react and say about it. Once I know what exactly it is, I'll continue playing GW1 reaching what I consider to be fair enough for all my characters and then decide if it is that time to move on.
I could care less about GW2 right now.

i dunno if I will play the next game but I think it's great you can't take over your cash as i really don't want the richest people in this game to be the richest there aswell as it would ruin the game as there's still alot of cash from duped ambraces.
Operative 14
I'll still continue playing GW1 as long as it intrests me, regardless of GW2's status. Granted, if GW2 is any good my departure from GW1 will probably be sooner rather than later.
And otherwise I'm not filling up my HoM that much; mostly just 15k armors that I want anyway. Probably the biggest deal will be an R3 survivor title that I'm currently grinding for my Monk.

I'll first go through GW2 with a test character with a class and race that would feel most comfortable to me and most like GW.
When I'm done getting used to the game, I'll start playing seriously with my real characters that will simply be reincarnations of previous characters.
GW1 will hold very little interest to me, and I will only be concerned with it by how I can transfer things from GW1 to GW2.

Move onto Guild Wars 2. Use monuments, and ect to start up a new Sylvari Ele with the same name, no looking back from there.
When is GW 2 estimated to come out again, is it 2 years from now?

Assuming i can afford a new computer by the time it comes out I might get gw2. Because well the computer I have now can barly play gw1. If i did get a new computer when it comes out I would wait a few weeks to see what its like. Considering my computer sucks I might stick to gw1 for a bit assuming I don't get bored of it and quit by the time gw2 comes out.
natuxatu
Agreed a fresh start with a fresh game is a good idea. Getting to transfer everything over might not be the smartest move with a new system so yeah. Just rather have a clean slate.. whatever they're transfering over is by far enough.

Besides, isn't it still supposed to be 2 years out? not to mention there hasn't been any official mention of it in what 5-6 months?
RedNova88
Well even if GW2 is a major block buster I'll still play GW1 I'm sure... It's just who I am, I don't outgrow games that I like I just take a vacation from them. Hell I still play games like Freedom Fighters and Homeworld because they're both awesome despite their age, and the same will go for GW most likely.

Vigil has a 40K MMO in the works. BioWare has an unknown (but likely Star Wars or Forgotten Realms) MMO in the works.

if Anet cant make a separate skill set for pve and pvp i dont expect to move on to GW2. with the game changes over the last year or so and the constant ignoring of suggestions by the GW community i cant see how GW2 wont be more of the same GW1 just dressed up a bit different.

Release GW2 first, then I'll see what I do.

I just had a thought:
Will more people play GW1 if GW2 does well just for the Hall of Monuments?
