What did you expect the sin class to be?
ensoriki
when you were considering making your sin what did you expect to get?
Also at that time did you like what you had gotten?

I avidly played AD&D for quite a while (respexx teh geekness) and it didn't take long for me to develop a liking towards the Rogue class.
For those of you not in the know, Rogues have the ability to deal heavy Sneak Attack damage if they get their positioning right, and this (very mobile, arguably 'cowardly') playstyle always stuck with me. It taught me not to fight 1v1's unless you're absolutely sure of victory, I always gave more thought to mobility as opposed to sheer prowess (there are Fighters and Barbarians for that) - a true 'ganker's' mindset.
I always liked fantasy stuff, and played WoW for a while though never felt comfortable with the required upkeep. There were times that I didn't play at all, as I'm not particularly fond of PvE - I just wanted a game that I could pick up and play without planning too much ahead. I didn't show any interest in GW until Factions came out though: it was the Assassin class that pulled me in, and I generally haven't been disappointed.
GW is a different game to different people; to me it's mainly AB (readily accessible, laid-back PvP on a decent scale) and some PvE questing (when I feel like it... which isn't too often). Especially in AB, where the power of mobility is so exaggerated, me and my Sin have really come into our own. I never was a 'Narutard' (Iz tank!!!1337!!!) but did have some of the arrogance so common to Rogue players (without being able to back it up at first ).
Now that Sins are forced more into utility again I'm not worried - that's how I've played all along

Thought they were pure spiky. Found out about Moebius/DS, then made a pve.

i expected it to be a solo killer with stealth capabilities and got bonus damage when they attacked with the element of surprise. excels at 1v1, slow going vs large groups
i was kinda dissapointed when i learned we got shadowsteps instead. factions was my first guild wars campaign that i owned. Sir Pandra Pierva
Narutard
that explains it right there Smilin' Assassin
my concept of an assassin was a kind of melee mesmer, who disabled a foe before moving in for the kill .. as a result my bar ended up with a lot of Mesmer skills .. at the release of Factions, they were much more effective than the Sin utility available ~

Yup, I was a narutard.... 1. Pretty, much yeah 2. When I realized you could use Moebius Strike to use Death Blossom FOREVAR! moriz
when i first looked at the assassin:
"wow, he's such an ENGIMATIC figure, looking all stooped over... with such MYSTERIOUS eyes! wooooo look at the way it runs... the way he holds the little stabbiditty knives... sooo much potential power, yet SOOOO lonely and weak on the inside...." yes, i was worse than a narutard.... i was a sassighey. and still am. Cuilan
I really had no idea what to expect. It was pretty clear that they wouldn't be tanks. Later learned how fun it is poping up all over they place and how easy it is to survice in PvE with them.

Hmm let's see. I came from Runescape, a game which promoted imbalanced piles of poo that could KO just by clicking an overpowered weapon 4 times on a grind-leveled pure that would own any player of equal level. A pure(99 range, 99 Strength/Attack, and 1 Defense) would be ~lvl 100 and be as strong offensively as a lvl 120.
My impression of the Factions sin was of something of a pure that used superior maneuverability (Shadow of Haste and shadowsteps) to land a tactically placed spike on a key player KO'ing them if possible or shutting them down temporarily. Lishy
My expectations were fast, powerful strikes to quickly spike an opponent and eliminate them quickly.
And my expectations weren't wrong :P Splitisoda

I've never ACTUALLY played something that had daggers, but I was hoping they could like pop out of no where and kill whoever they were targeting, or at least do a fair amount of damage. Also from watching lots of movies, I safely assumed they could like having equipment like smoke bombs (they had smoke grenadish things in medieval games i've played) and could see through and kill things in the smoke. Dem Babyz Iz Mine
I thought they'd maybe have opium powers...Get all buzzed and go kill some political figure; y'know, the game's hazy drunk effect... Instead they jump in, get hexed with insidious parasite or get blinded and flail around like a rag doll on the end of a drill. Just so-o-o-o many ways to shut them down, it saddens me.
My Lipgloss is Cool
Before I played GW I played Everquest (Which is still an amazing game, but too indepth character development) and my main was a Rogue. In EQ, Rogues have the (one of?) the highest DPS in the game, and have the Backstab ability that does huge damage (from double/triple digit normal attacks to 4/5 digit backstabs.) Sadily, rogues had only chain armor, and got raped if any thing with any power looked at us, except we had abilities to make us loose agro if we got it (which was very important because we usually outdamaged the tank, and EQ monsters don't hold agro as well as GW monsters do). When I first heard about Sins, I expected fragile dps machines, which is mostly what I got. I only made one more recently, but I'm very happy with him, though disappointed with the lack of abilities that depend (or at least are effected by) being behind foes.
Skill concept; Backstab Target foe takes +15...40 damage. If you are behind target foe, they take an additional 15...40 damage. This attack counts as a lead attack. tl;dr Came in expecting a DPS Machine, got it, was happy. MLiC RavagerOfDreams

I came from playing a WoW rogue to GW a bit after Factions came out. My rogue in WoW pre-BC was epicced out, and I raided hardcore and used my nice little toys to dominate duels and pvp.
I was half expecting the assassin to be similar to the WoW rogue, in the concept that i'm going to kill you through speed, agility, and finesse; rather than lower my head and keep running forward till you die. I was never a big fan of brute force, which warriors represent in most MMOs. It just happens, there really is little place for a rogue-ish character in a warrior-centered game. Luminarus
Guild wars was my first RPG so I had no idea, my friend said they would do DPS so i kinda thought that was what would happen.
My first sin failed miserably, however my new sin is godly . I loved sins the second I got my r8 15>50 zodiac daggers for 30k lol, then I made one and had some fun I personally love sins, but believe that shadowstepping should be altered to a stance: For 3 Seconds you move 100% faster towards target foe. You cannot be targetted by spells or attacks (ala shadow form). This ends when you are adjacent to target foe. Then add in the other clauses. Within this function, you cant change direction so it prevents retarted game mechanic abuse. Just my idea. EDIT: Just noticed I went WAAAAAAAAAAAY off topic. SilverSlave
Sorry to derail breifly but I had almost exactly the same idea for Shadow Stepping i.e. a brief straight line ultra speed boost (maybe without player clipping cos you're a shadow).
Back on topic I think I only got half what I expected from my Assassin. Fast attacks and good damage are great but I had hoped for more battlefield control. I want to get absolutely ruined if caught unawares but I want to have some control over the battles I choose. To an extent that happens but I think Shadow Stepping may not have been the best tool for it. I'd love to be the guy zipping about shutting down casters and crippling warriors (balanced obviously). I think someone mentioned a melee mesmer earlier? That's what I really wanted. Feathered
I expected to deal masive ammounts of DPS or add in Spike skills for monks like KD then falling spider then signet of toxic shock or DB moebius for DPS. think they could use more healing but meh i dont want to have to heal in a party.
also i thought SF could be used to farm quickly... lets just say EOTN and NF opened up alot of doors for that. no dbout about it my sin can solo faster in many more areas and monsters than any other character i have. also shadow stepping in to kill a monk that is getting healed by 2 other monks then shadow stepping out is fun =D (burning forest in FOW) @SilverSlave are you talking PVP or PVE for shuting down casters? Sir Pandra Pierva
shroud of silence.
that is what the sin should be really painful but quick and silent you dont have time to scream this is pre nerf shroud My Lipgloss is Cool

Ok, I didn't put too much thought in the skill, just trying to explain my point of direction related skills.
Captain Miken
I expected it to be nerfbait - I was right.
Bowstring Badass
Honestly its called assassin... It should do the following assassinate. Guess izzy thought he could keep sin's balanced but guessed wrong..

Probably not. I remember when me and my guild were taking screenshots of all of us at the end of a FoW run...Everyone was looking forward on their screens, but not on everyone's screens. GW doesn't seem to care too much which way you're facing.
But, I can dream Feathered
LOL that is so sad about the screen thing. but they wer and still are nerf bait. the infi sins in AB and what not are not helping. *grabs his shadow form and hides under his bed* I think they will hit that with the nerf bat... although they beter not or il be mad!!
Terraban
I pictured quick damage + offensive support.
We got instagib + nerfs. Go figure. Bobby2

actually it probably is considering that scythes attack in a forward cone and shields used to affect only attacks from the front (I think, or else someone told me some very false info long ago)

oh , it's PvE. nvm. Huh... it would be still the same as current shadow steps meaning you would drop you're item, and the same effect would be in pvp as in pve, like a COMPLETE change to shadow stepping. Itokaru
Coming from Dark Age of Camelot, I first expected some type of stealth system, where you press the button and you can't be seen by anyone for a set amount of time, or unless you got too close or something o.o;
It was definitely cool to be able to walk amidst players in the low-level battlegrounds undetected with a big two-handed cleaver on my back and then one shot a squishy mage and run away again =P (Anyone who's played the game knows what I'm talking about) But I'm still not sure whether I prefer shadow-stepping or the age-old stealth systems... Neverending Silence
I pretty much expected the sin to be like...well like almost every other MMORPG around...i figured a sin could stealth walk of some sort and basically pwn if he could get an ambush...much like every other MMORPG (i.e. WoW, Neverwinter Nights)
