Damn. Favor actually MEANT something then. I remember waiting with my friends for hours all night just for a chance for a chest run. I know that doesn't sound fun at the time, but I really miss rooting for our American guys.

UW and FoW Scrolls were actually worth something for a while when they brought em out...then soon to be killed with the new system.
Yeah I remember sitting around the HA arena's waiting for us to lose favor, and watching a flood of Americans coming in screaming about getting a group together, to go kick some asses and get our favor back.

The old system was whack, Europe had favor 24/7.
This was Inevitable, now everyone has a fair chance to get in since Europe seemingly dominated the Hall of Heroes.

i remember the days when Euorope whinned because America always had favor.
i remember the days when America whinned because Europe always had favor.
i never saw the others whine because they NEVER had favor, or if they did have, it lasted for less than an hour, and i do remember seeing Korea reaching "Korea needs to win one more time to earn the favor of the gods" then the next line is "America needs to win 4 more times to earn the favor of the gods".
its better this way.
and no, i dont miss the old system.

Europe used to hog the favor, and us Americans whined. We wouldn't get favor until midnight. I used to think that was bad, but I realize now - the old system was AWESOME.
1) Less favor makes FoW and UW a rarer treat, meaning people will put more planning into their trips before heading out.
2) Ecto and shard prices go back up (for those who don't know shards were 7k and ectos 12k back in the old days)?
3) Hall of Heroes has no significance anymore. Just a way to get a dinky chest. In the old days it was truly epic - America fighting Europe, lots of people would watch, it was a very competitive battle. Much of PvP revolved aorund HoH too, all kinds of builds and discussions being based off of what occured there. Once again, HoH is now an extremely underplayed crappy team arena in essence.

Lol yeah. I remember playing for europe.. Everytime europe had like 3 or 4 wins in Hall of Heroes, people would start making teams and spam all over Temple of Ages. This was at a time when europe only had favor 2-3 times a week. Dunno if I really miss it but its a cool memory. Also a guy in my guild would always get flamed by everyone currently in Temple of Ages everytime we were near getting favor, for spamming america owns or i hope europe loses.. Lol.. It was pretty ridiciolous tbh

/Notsigned back in the day Americans could never get into fow or uw without waiting till 2 o clock it was completely ridiculous. Everyone used to complain that they should change it, now it's changed and everyone's complaining to change it back. Remember the free UW and FoW weekend? People argued it should stay that way for 1k and I for one agree.

Yeah, I miss that. There has yet to be a green message in my chat that rivals the length of such epicness!
Also, don't say "no cause you'll deny taiwan/japan/china the favor", because we have scrolls now.
Heh, I do remember in 2005 Korea got it once a month and we'd all go crazy when we saw that.

You know, now that we can hop districts at will, bringing back the old system wouldn't even inconvenience anyone. Make a team in International, hop over to the area that has favor, and you're in
Hmm. Come to think of it, reverting to the old favor system would do nothing for the "prestige" factor of HoH.

it did actually add a little spin on the actual hall game. Now teams that know they are going to lose might choose to gank a team for any number of reasons, but back then teams would mostly help out their continent to win if they couldnt

When I started playing GW, I remember iQ held forever (may/june/possibly july 05) then came marvel superheroes, power, later MATH. Some Korean guilds held pretty often too, but the only one I remember is "We love guild", don't think EviL or WM played halls much.
Basically, America had favour about 70% of the time, Korea 25% and Europe 5%. Then slowly Europe began getting it more and more, and pretty much all Koreans quit the game by the beginning of '06 and eventually Europe started holding 90% and America 10. I started playing tombs when the ratio was around 70/30 in favour of europe and I remember people cheering Legend of Pi and The Zaishen when we won.
But when I wasn't playing HA, I wanted to farm ectos and europe still had favour most of the time, so I transferred to Europe. Quite a few people I knew did the same thing, so we became part of the problem, rather than fighting for America. I'm Canadian anyway, so no patriotism there. :P

with the favor, ANet did 2 things to help, which we all are aware of. The problem is, doing BOTH things HURT GW and favor.
Although I like the new system because it means that PvEers get to get the favor for something that only really matters to them, not PvPers. But, adding in scrolls as well as changing how we get favor ruined it.
I say go back to HoH decides favor and keep scrolls or remove scrolls and keep the favor system how it is now. Doing both things to make it easy to get to UW and FoW was pointless.

Also if they changed the system back they'ed have to remove free travel between districts or it'd be a bit pointless
jonnieboi05
keep it how it is as of right now and less crying (and less usage of the word "epic" -cough-) about it. the PvE aspect of GW being influenced by PvP was always a shitty idea (meaning no UW/FoW unless PvP reaches the requirements, 5 consecutive wins for your nation).

Don't we have, like, 2 quadrillion minutes of favor nowadays? I like the new system, but I do miss sitting there with my guildies and suddenly see "America has won in the hall of heroes" or somesuch and have a mad rush to get into UW and FoW
BuD
Ya what the hell, put it back to the old system, Ill just change territories & get to UW/FOW no matter who has favor

Old favour system rocked tbh, cos i didn't even play HA then.

All I need to say is:
It's 200 gold per scroll to get into either The Deep or Urgoz's Warren. It's over 1000 gold per scroll to get into either Fissure of Woe or The Underworld.
Talk about earn vs. pay.

I remember it clearly. I remember during the early parts of 2006 when America had favor constantly too. I remember Europe dominating for a long time after Factions, then almost constantly near and after Nightfall. I didn't like it one bit.
I don't want it back, I don't care about the old system, good riddance.

The old system had a lot more character, and was a lot more fun. I really enjoyed the announcements of what was going on, and it supported the idea of having some context of PvP happenings even if you werent playing it. So what if one region had favor most of the time? Scrolls were implemented for that reason.
Winterclaw
I never played much and I don't go into UW/FoW so it doesn't bother me at all.
I'm happy with the current system I guess.

Halls was better when Korea was actually involved. European guilds outnumber every other region's guilds(last I checked it was 1 American guild for every 6 Euro guilds), so the chances of have 3 Euro guilds/teams meet up in HoH is very high during Euro peak hours. So unless you break Europe up into other regions, its really not even remotely fair.
Just leave it as it is, don't need to give PvE'rs another reason to complain about what the PvP'rs do, as they complain about alot already.

Dr Strangelove
I remember it quite clearly.
I also remember how much it sucked to lose access to content and not be able to do anything about it as a PvEer. Later on, I remember not caring remotely about it while farming fame.

I never really liked the concept of PvP determining who can access a PvE area. Tbh I was sick of not being able to UW/FoW until night. Not to mention not being able to UW/FoW with people on different servers.
The current system isn't perfect, but I prefer it over the old one.

The problem, though, is that unlimited district switching makes the old favor system largely irrelevant. Not having to wait for content is good, of course, but waiting for FoW/UW access was precisely what fostered the sense of camaraderie in Temple of the Ages. With everyone able to just hop on over to the winning boat, HA will remain only as relevant to a PvE player as all other PvP - which is to say, the PvE player will only notice it when some skills get nerfed because of PvP (ab)use.
People want the old system back because winning and holding Halls used to mean something. Specifically, it was the only way to leave your mark on the game world. Factions attempted to capitalize on this specific player base with the town control system, but rewards there were neither as direct (one fight instead of countless AB fights) nor as immediate (one win streak instead of constant donations) as in HA, and even worse with respect to the challenge missions. ANet has opted to "compensate" the HA players with exclusive chest drops, but that apparently isn't what they're after. Until and unless ANet gets a clue and designs a "game world impact" reward system that is as good as the original favor one, people will not be satisfied.
At this point, changing the favor back won't do anything for the Halls. With unlimited district switching, the "game impact" of winning Halls will be only minimally higher than it is now. This, just like too many other things in Guild Wars, now boils down to vanity, and while improving accessibility does allow the game to be enjoyed by more people, it needs to be paired with "meaningful" reward systems for the... "more discerning" players. Otherwise, people will end up jaded - "Nothing really matters, so what's the point?" - and quit, hurting the game in the long run.

What's more, the whole team gets one after a clear, which is probably the reason I can't remember the last time I spent actual gold on the entry fee, or was asked to contribute.

Do I consider the old system good?
No.
Do I consider the new system good?
No.
If the entrance to these areas should be conditional - it should depend on the actions of the players itself.
Having said that - I do miss the standing around in ToA - listening to the crappy local chatter (and participating in the useless party chatter ) - going - "Just one more win!1!" - and then going "D'oh" or "YAY!11!"
But the problem is that those WERE completely different times. The normal thing to do with the local chat was to participate in a conversation rather then having it turned off.
So no - the old system wasn't good - but the times in which the system ruled the world WERE.

I miss old halls to, and by old halls I mean when it was located in ToPK and ppl called it HoH or tombs, not HA. I miss the unworthy dead as well, and when pvp was fun, gw was great, etc etc.
