Why Have We Been Forsaken!
Toxage
Arena Net has had the last straw with me with their currents focus on Guild Wars 2. I love Guild Wars; I have played over 2,000 hours.
But, Arena Net is starting to make me worried. I understand you want to make Guild Wars 2 amazing. I understand that video games take large amounts of work, money, and time.
But please don't abandon your community. It makes no sense. You need to still maintain your current franchise. I know you are trying, but you need to try a little more
Could you imagine if this were to happen in other businesses?
Imagine if this were to happen in a restaurant.
Customer: Hi, I would like some Dr. Pepper with a Cheeseburger done medium well.
Waiter: All right, should be about 10 minutes.
Customer: Uhhh... It has been an hour... where is my food?
Waiter: Oh here it is! Here is your water and lettuce!
Customer: I ordered Dr. Pepper and a Cheeseburger
Waiter: We apologize that you didn't get what you wanted, but in a couple years from now we will one amazing restaurant, so come back then and it will be better.
I feel like this is happening in Guild Wars.
The community has longed for:
-More character customization (Nothing)
-More PvP Maps (HA has had the same maps for how long?)
-More PvP Styles (Hero Battles Doesn’t Cut It)
-A Better Trading System; Spamming for HOURS to sell something is horrible. Your band-aid attempt to fix this was pathetic. (Make an auction house. Or design another system. How about a system that would allow me to make a little stand and go afk, and people could purchase my goods for the set price if they wanted)
-More Interesting Boss fights; Boss fights in their current form are pathetic. They are just regular monsters buffed up a few levels with a glow around them. Boss fights need to feel heroic and epic. Bosses should be more unique. Bosses need unique skills (Take a current skill and tweak it) audio effects, unique skins (If your going to reuse skins at least SLIGHTLY alter them to make it look like you care a microscopic amount add some fiery or frost effects or some wings, fangs, arms, legs, heads, etc… )
You don’t even need to think of ideas. Just go to the suggestion forum here and use those ideas! How easy is that? You don’t even need to think anymore!

I hope you feel better after this rant/QQ.
My hope for GW1 is some other company eventually is contracted to keep working on it. TBH I'd feel better if things were wrapped up and GW2 took place on a completely different world. IE have 3 more expansions... one for factions, one for NF, and a final one that wraps up the dragons and whatnot.

wat?
Yeah, we get it, Anet failed at making GW fun after 2 years. That's because they're 'working on GW2'. If it fails, then you know Anet are just a bad company. Wait till GW2, then post up wall o' text threads that don't actually have a point other than to complain about the same things everyone has complained about for years.

Signed, Guild Wars should integrate many of those things, but probably wont.

I agree that they givin up on GW1. Sure they are working on GW2, but thats not an excuse. The complaints that you mentioned have been mentioned early on before GW2 was announced. How hard is it to implement these changes? Their initial targeted audience was for a competitive PvP RPG. Well, that quickly changed when they introduced NF and GWEN. They began to appeal to more PvE, but instead of adding on what you mentioned (better character customization, more unique bosses, an Auction House, and let me add, more weapon customization), they simply reskin everything and wrap it in a new box.

The problem is is that we have no monthly fees, which means once we buy the game, who in ANet actually gives a damn afterwards? They made their money, that's it.
Monthly payments make it so the devs are always working to keep their cash flow per month. ANet, not only not having to do that, doesn't give a damn period about Guild Wars, even before GW2 was announced.
IMO, ANet is a bad company, there have been things asked since the beginning of GW, and they still haven't fixed it.
They better get their game up, or else GW2 will be their last game. They already have a bad rep of short-term fixures w/o actually solving it for good.
Look how long the report feature took, or the leavers in RA, or the spamming of trades.

I feel that these things will come around to bite Arena Net in the butt when Guild Wars 2 comes out.
Players will remember how they were treated.
Zahr Dalsk
ArenaNet has no obligation to actually do what we want, so yeah... not much point complaining; better to try to suggest the stuff for Gw2.
Dr. Pepper is disgusting swill, and you deserve that if you actually drink the stuff.

You don't order games, you buy them as is. Not that Guild Wars hasn't always needed improvement, but it's presumptuous to think Arenanet must do things for you.
Also, they aren't lacking ideas, they lack effective solutions. Saying "we want an auction house" a thousand times over doesn't magically create a working auction house system.

I think Savio has said it best.
I'm going to go wayyyyyy out of my comfort zone and let this stay open for a bit... but I'm pretty sure it's going to get pummeled to the ground.
Just a warning really.

This'll be closed in less than 10 minutes, I can see it happening.
Really, that has been discussed to death. If you're really cynical, Anet aren't doing anything because they already have your cash, so don't need to make the game better to keep you paying. On the other hand, they say they're working on GW2. Either way, GW has been left alone in a corner, so just wait till GW2 comes out, and ANet might care again.

Along with your Sardelaic post which is basically the same thing...
What in the world is your deal? You have a vast feeling of entitlement and inflated self-worth.
A.net works their butts off to create a game, and you are just whinning that its not EXACTLY like you want it to be. Game coding is not that easy and requires a very high understanding of math and engineering. When they say "they are working on it" they legitamately are. It's not like there is just a button they can push though to change the server's code instantly and do it bug free.

^^I give it a day.
OP: I'd rather they maintain GW, or contract it out, and concentrate on the new game being a great game, than keep having to put out delay after delay before releasing some swill, just because they diverted manpower to auction houses, expansions, etc. At least they are still maintaining the game.

Sorry but you don't tell them how you want them to make their game. If the game doesn't have what you want then don't buy it in hope that it will have it one day (and if you want to be sure at what a game has to offer, do some research before buying it ).
Don't you mean being allowed to change your face/haircut once your char has been created ? If you don't then I don't see what more customization you need (and don't tell me more armors wow style, or being able to be fat ).
Btw : Fenix you were wrong.... it's been more than 10 minutes xD.

Before you cancel your subscription, can I have your stuff?
Seriously, for a game that is being moved into more of a "maintain" mode, I would say they do plenty. We just had a big, unique Gaile event. We get huntable, custom weapons dropped into the game. We get regular skill balances.
Would I like a better trade system? Sure. Is that going to be delivered prior to GW2? Doubtful. Do I feel bitter about it, clinging to my guns, religion and fear of people who are different than me? Heh.
It's a game. If it's no longer fun, move on.
I just had a thought about your restaurant analogy.
Customer 1 - I've been eating at this same restaurant for 2 years now. They're never gonna fix the menu. I hear they're opening up a new one across town, but they've got problems here I don't think they'll ever fix.
Customer 2 - I kind of like it here. It's cheap, decent quality. They mix up the menu a bit even though they are working on that new one across town.
Customer 1 - Are you kidding? The service is terrible. They mess up my order constantly. I've been telling the manager for years he should start selling tuna salad sandwiches. He never listens.
Customer 2 - You know, when I get tired of a restaurant, I find someplace new to eat.

Yeah, a hundred million. They are getting only 45 million for development of GW2. They got a lot less for GW. Look at the closing credits sometime, and you'll notice more than a few names repeated. This isn't Blizzard. They don't have 10 million fees a month pouring into their coffers. Hell, you should be happy they gave new weapons to us and still hold regular events. If you aren't, please.....PLEASE uninstall and quit spamming all over the Inner Circle forums.

And to the guy who said the BMP is all reskins and took no work, by that logic any weapon is just a reskin, with the possible exception of some animated skins. They were beautiful, 'nuff said. Also, have you ever animated anything? I have. Try it and then say those cinematics took no work there were some serious hours put into those, I guarantee it and it showed.

Why do people like you still pop up? Hasn't this been discussed to death yet?
But back on topic, the reason we're not getting Hairdressers, Auction Houses and whatever else you want is because THEY CAN'T! The current engine does not allow for such things. This is exactly why they are working their asses off to make a game that DOES include these things and who knows what else. I, for one, am glad that they are focusing so much on GW2. And have you noticed by any chance all the updates in the past couple of months? It's not like they've completely forgotten about GW1.
And how hard is it to just appreciate all that Anet has done for us thus far (and it's a crap-load if you really want to make a list). Don't you like the frequent updates? The constant balances? The beautiful art? Or did you just spend those 2000 hours in agony as you were forced to play Guild wars?
You have absolutely no right to demand things from Anet. It is a privilege to play such an awesome game with no monthly fee. Instead of yelling "Moar!!" we should all send "thank you" letters en mass.
You should be ashamed of yourself for your childish demands and lack of respect.

Welcome to the lifespan of a game.
Start - wow, it's so cool! It's ground breaking! I'm in heaven!
Middle - huh, some other game has broken new ground, this game is missing some things I want, but it's still very cool, I'm loyal...
End - WTF! You nerfed! You didn't listen to me, the god of all game consumers who know what you SHOULD do.
There is always atrophy in life. Deal.

If Anet really didn't care at all they wouldn't even churn out the updates, let alone the weekend events, BMP, DAW competition....
Im glad they are focused on GW2, this game is old and if they keep adding new content it will be the same crap as before because there is only so much they do with the engine. From the information we have been given about GW2 it may be a fresh start adding the things they didn't/couldn't in GW1. Of course it is still speculation at this point but if they keep going backwards trying to keep GW1 fresh they arn't going to get anywhere.
Excuse me if I am wrong in this but, I have yet to see Mursaat weapons at the crafter...oh and Im pretty sure I haven't seen the Charr Axe at a crafter either. Hmmmm I don't recall the Tengu weapons being at one either....of course these examples are only the one's I've taken an interest in. Again apologies if I have yet to stumble upon this particular npc.

I don't see the comparison here.
With a burger joint, you walk in and they have a menu of things to choose from. You pick a DP and a cheeseburger, then that's the service they provide you with. With GW (or any game), you are buying a finished product. In many cases, they've explicitly stated they will not be providing the features you mentioned, and in any case they are not obligated to provide them.
It's one thing to have a certain expectation that they'll provide a complete product, and not unreasonable to expect them to fix problems with it. But any bonus feature is just that.
Besides which, AB, FA, JQ, HB, and many revisions of HA have all been added since release (certainly there's no shortage of new types, PvPers have just decided to stick with what they like). New maps have been added to the RA/TA rotation and to GvG with every chapter (except EotN).
Hair dressers (and the like) have been a player request since the beginning of GW time, and they've always said it'll never happen. Trade improvements have been made from time to time, though there's still a lot of room.
Finally, I've never heard "cooler boss fights" (in the sense of regular bosses, rather then elite zones and campaign bosses) being a big issue for players. Any battle that happens as regularly as a normal boss fight isn't going to be special for long.

Agreed to a point. Without looking at their finances, I would also think they have put enough money into their future games that paying for improving the current ones would have to be done on a limited budget, if at all. Once they are willing to put the money behind fixing old problems, then they would have to deal with things effectively.
Taking your auction house, I'd make it an interface from your personal storage vault if you want to sell items, hold them there until sale, and where bought items would automatically go to. Buying them would be a completely different beast and I have no idea what the best way to incorporate that at this stage in the game.
Aera Lure
Much as I might have some quibbles with Anet and some directions GW has taken, some things that never got implemented, I find it unbelievable to consider them a bad gaming company as some seem to be implying. They've done really well, and deserve credit and thanks. Whatever other issues you might have, you cant deny that if you are still on these forums and possibly also still playing after all this time, they've done some things pretty darn well.
This is what happens at the end of a game's cycle. There's nothing new about it. There's no denying GW is at the end of its cycle and Anet is right to devote most if not all its time to the development of the sequel. There remains much to do in GW in the state its in, for most people anyway. If you've done it all, literally, then take a break. GW from now going forward is really what you bring to it, and what you want from it. Don't expect too terribly much from Anet until GW2 beta arrives on the scene.
