If this Cash Shop/Item Mall crap (which I hated so much in all these Asian f2p grind clone MMOs) actually finds its way into GW and GW2... goodbye.
Chrono Re delle Ere
Players be careful! Don't trade real money for in game items! It can make you be banned and loose the money!

It doesn't mention GWs in relation to the initiative at anytime. I wouldn't get your collective knickers in a twist.
matsif
if this is in GW2 I will not buy. do not want.
basically this system is just as bad as buying gold for real cash imo.

Zydonis
That would explain why they want to stomp out trading for real money.

“NCcoin will not be retrofitted in games that have business models that do not work with a micro-transaction system. We will, however, work to have NCcoin incorporated in as many of our games as possible, and what role NCcoin will play with our future console offerings have yet to be determined. NCcoin does fit perfect for some of the free-to-play and download games we are developing, and gives players choice on how they want to play these games.”

Ironic to the max.

LOL Funny how they mention that failure of a game Exteel will have continue to have that feature. People hardly played it in open beta. Not to mention the stuff you could buy then was unimpressive.

This is only for the Exteel game...geez read people!

I wonder whether GW2 will be considered either a free-to-play or a download game that they're referring to...
Vamis Threen
Inflation a-hoy!
But seriously.....
The "upgrades" in question may be additional content, and the "items" just new skins. In future games, this system could replace monthly fees, with NCcoin purchasing playing hours, which would be a more flexible system in pay-to-play games. All fine by me. Anet has to make a buck.
However, if NCcoin purchases mods, skills, and weapons that give you a genuine advantage, or worse still gold (yikes!), then that would be hypocritical and would damage any game.

Of course I don't want to see this happen with Guild Wars, as this is supposed to be a free to play game, charging us money for items would go completely against that.
However, I vastly prefer the method of paying money for items than I do paying a subscription fee. At least that way I'm only paying for content I need and want to use, instead of having to pay a ridiculous amount every month, even if I'm hardly playing. Assuming they don't take it too far (having to buy ammo, or whatever) then I think it's a much better system.

In addition to Exteel, NCcoin is expected to be incorporated globally into many of NCsoft’s existing and upcoming games.

NCcoins destroyed Exteel. The items are just overpowering compared to anything you can get with credits.
But they don't care. As long as people cough up the cash.

NCSoft just publishes and distributes Guild Wars, it does not design or own it. The only way Guild Wars would ever use an NC Coin based business model is if ArenaNet wanted to.
More to the point, Guild Wars 2 will not be using this system. All of the drama and panic can stop now.

If GW2 is pay to play I won't be buying it. Doesn't matter how good it is. However, if they want to toss in something like this for skins and other cosmetic stuff that doesn't affect actual play (minipet evolutions?), then np for me.
But I suspect it would be a bad idea in that they would have to make the stuff you buy look so much better you really want it. This would make it less likely that normally available stuff would be good looking. Which would make for a blah game that people wouldn't buy.

Yeh, Arena Net would never try to profit off of real money for virtual items/cash ever.

Just in case NCsoft is thinking of pushing this into GW2 (I doubt it, but ...): I would not buy GW2, the no-monthly fee was one of the major factor why GW is what it is, this would make it a different game that I wouldn't buy.
Return of the B.S. The conspiracy theory is not where people think. There are some people (revengeful players? from a competing company? stupid trolls?) who are clearly making stuff up (I've asked many times these guys "proofs" and the replies were non-sensical, to say the least).

I really don't see why there is such a strong negative reaction to the NC Coin model. It is after all designed for the free to play games that NCSoft provides (Dungeon Runners, Exteel...) as a way for them to get optional payment from the hardcore fans of the game.
You don't have to use it, and you don't even have to pay anything at all for the game if you don't want to. Without this kind of micro-transaction model NCSoft would probably be unable to release these free to play games at all. Whilst they may not be very popular in the western market they are particularly popular in Asia etc.
This is NCSoft, not ArenaNet.
The inane rants of some obsessed troll. If you have any kind of experience with the industry it's not hard to see through his garbage.

ON NCSOFT BUSINESS MODELS:
“NCcoin is just one of many elements that make up the variety of business models NCsoft has to offer. We have grown to the point where if you are a MMOG player and you like the traditional subscription-based game, we have those. If you are an MMOG player seeking a free to play and download game with microtransactions, we have that. If you just want to pay for software and have lifetime play, we have that too. The bottom line for NCsoft is that we want to be able to offer a variety of business models to meet the needs of the different customers out there. NCcoin is another way to make it easier for customers to access the kind of game they want to play.”
Looks like the ArenaNet business model is safe.

The fact is that in order to milk money out of the game they need to give people an incentive to use the micro-transaction model. They give out the game free so people can try it and see if it fits them, then if they get into it they may choose to spend a few dollars. The game at its core always remains free.

I seriously doubt that this will effect GW and GW2 atall.
Making GW2 f2p with a item shop would be the stupidest move the Anet could make .
We dont want GW2 to be flooded with pre-teens screaming "OMG GIB ME MONEY I GOT HAKD" now do we?
