How about ANet does a 1 week trial of gold selling?
This way, all the people who want to buy gold will do so, realise that they now have nothing left to achieve in the game and then leave.
Sure the value of gold would crash, but at least we wouldn't have people like the OP in the game any more?
PS. The economy could then be rolled back to it's state 1 week before. :P
And as well as gold, why not make faction sellable? You have to grind for it just like gold.
Actually: Make titles purchasable.

Allowing real money trading affects can negate this effect. Suddenly, your hard earned money is no longer of value, and you are suddenly outclassed by people wo are richer in real life.
Personally, I could easily afford myself gold. But then, what would it be worth? I stopped cheating in single player games simply because without the challenge, there was no sense of accomplishment left...

I take your point and have resisted the temptation to ridicule you for this idea.
You might have a valid point if the only way to get anywhere in the game depended on many hours of play or huge sums of money, but it doesnt.
There isn't any need to farm endlessly to gain lots of money to play enjoy and complete the game.
So what's the point of buying platinum, well if I was cynical I would say one reason and one reason alone, and that's bragging rights.
It is part of human nature to crow and show off to others of our race just how good we are and the most obvious way is by financial success and possessions.
In other words some players would do this just to show off to other players which is pretty sad.
Ok so they let players buy 100k for say $10 or whatever, now many would do just that and good luck to them.
Some of course would spend $50 $100 $200 etc and just go and buy everything in the game, the economy such as it is would fall apart as prices shot up.
If you could buy anything in the game for real money it would devalue the achievements of those who used time and skill to get the same.

The only thing keeping people playing til GW2 is making money to buy crap and titles, If they can buy the gwmoney to fund the titles for real money they can get the titles and stuff they want easily and then theres no incentive to keep playing the game is there?
