How did YOU come across Guild Wars?
Avai
I got sick of WoW's monthly fees and cartoon-style graphics. GW looked a whole lot prettier and it was free.
An easy choice for me!

I had a friend that came to me and 3 other friends and said "A new game is coming out, looks good." We go: "Okay."

Was working two jobs for over a year and finally my midnight job came to an end. I decided to enjoy some of my new found free time with a computer game. I had never played a MMO before and the last game I played had been ulitima VI so I was not up to date on modern gaming at all. I just grabbed GW because the box looked ultima-ish and have maintained my account for the last 34 months.
Jumping Is Uselss
I was looking for a game that can keep me entertained for a long time. Which led me to WoW, but I learned from my brother that there was a monthly subscription for WoW. So he said get GW because he had a friend who was playing it and it had no subscriptions.
Perkunas
I was heavy into Dungeon Siege, actually starting to burn out. Many from our clan had started playing GW and had disappeared completely from DS. One or two came back to say how cool it was. I bought it, one month later told people from DS good bye. 30 months in, I think I finally hit saturation point. Playing less and a bit bored when I log on.

A friend of mine showed me runescape and then i saw how fun it is to play with real ppl. At first i didnt want to buy a game because there are free MMORPGs, but i realized they suck and went and bought GW, after reading in a magazine that it had no monthly fee + it got a goor review. And it was worth it...

I'd gotten a new pc at the end of the school year (decent GCSE results so parents bought me it ).
I'd been buying crappy £10-£15 games occasionally to play on it and kept on buying more and more since most of them only kept me entertained for about an evening on two (getting £30 a week from EMA for going to college is ftw).
Then i picked up prophecies for £15 as just another game.
Didn't buy another game for months, next one i bought was factions and nightfall.

My friends begged me to play, despite the fact that I had "quit" computer games.
I still play

Jetdoc
One of my close friends purchased it shortly after release, and told me that it was right up my alley.
Man, was he ever right.

Aye. I bought the game in June/July 05. I didn't know anything about Guru until Oct, when a guildie told me about it.

i was working as a sales rep @ compusa lots and lots of people where buying and calling about this games guildwars factions so i decided to try it out
Mister_Smiley
I was in the CompUSA that was by me, i was playing Diablo 2 at that time, which was around the time GW orignal came out, my brother just happen to see the Guild Wars, was going to go with just the normal Copy, but he then saw the CE of Proph and decided to get that, he ended up not likeing the game, and i loved it and here i am almost 3years later.

Some people of my old guild on Dark Age of Camelot started playing GW and told me it was good, so I got it in June 2005.
They quit GW a few months later, I'm still playing, with some breaks here and there.

I playing Star Wars Galaxies before GW. So when SOE totaly ruined the game. There was a big post on my servers forum about other MMO's to play and there was a lot of posts about GW. So I checked it out and got it on April 30th 2005 and never looked back.

My diablo 2 buddies were playing the trial i believe, and tried to convince me to play it. At first i refused (nothing could surpass d2!!).. but eventually gave in
Bryant Again
Tried it at Digital Ops (a pay-to-play gaming place) and was pretty impressed. Bought it not too long after.
Earth
A friend of a previous MMORPG I played convinced me to buy it.

I bought a new computer and decided finally I can play PC games (never really played PC games because of slow PCs). I researched games and WoW was definitely was not an option. Decided between GW and Oblivian (both montly fee free) but chose GW because of online play.
I bought a used prophecies from someone (didn't really know too much about user/pass requirements and CD keys) but didn't get ripped off. Then bought the rest of them.

Back in May 2005, it was a boring saturday afternoon. I had just come home from work. One of my friends and I were chatting on AIM about how shitty so many games out there were. He told me he came across a game called Guildwars on gamespot.com and said it seemed to be a cool game to play. We were both tired of Diablo 2 so we decided to get it. The following week we both got it.
Angelic Upstart
I play FPS games alongside GW, and the guys i played with all got GW and were raving about it, so the mrs and i followed suit back Sept 05.
Then Factions came out and every bugger except me and the wife defected to WoW..... the bastards.

2 of my mates were addicts and convinced me to start playing.

ah, *strokes beard, and puffs pipe*. t'was the day of December 28th, 2005. I was looking for a (late) Christmas present for a mate, (he was rambling on about Age Of Empires 4), i found it in a WHSmith, but sadly it was the last one left (i was planning on buying a copy for myself aswell), so being the good soul that i was (lol), i bought myself Guild Wars: Special Edition, which happened to sit right next to AOE. Thats when i begun :P
bloodghoul
Well i first heard about it when i was in Yr 8 of secondary school from a friend but he made it sound boring and just about people lazing about in guilds and fighting each other lol.
But when i went to college another friend mentioned it and bugged me to get one of the campaigns, but none the less i went over board bought all the campaigns and EoTN with out even see a video of the game and glad i did =)

After YEARS of Ghost Recon including haveing a T1 line run to my house to host a dedicated server the game died when tha makers decided to not make GR 2 for PC and only Console. Everyone left not wanting to wait for GR3.
So I went back to playing Freelancer for a few weeks, and If you play Freelancer that about all it takes to do what you need to do in that game, unless you can find a good server with PvP combat on a regular basis. Damn Pirates.
So I did a "google" search of Freelancer looking for a simular game and on one of the sales sites (Amazon maybe?) it had listed several games under the heading "People who bought this game also recomend:" So I wrote those games down a rolled out to the game store.
Guild Wars was the only one of the recomended that had no monthly fee.
Yeah, I put tons of thought into that one didn't I?
On a side note, I've yet to fail at picking up games on a random whim. The only 3 PC MMP games I'v ever played (Ghost Recon, Freelancer and GW) I've really enjoyed. And all 3 were chosen on a whim/this looks good basis. Well with Ghost recon I had that and BF 1942 in my hand and the clerk said more people are playing GR online than BF, so thats the one I bought. And GR was bought the night before a blizzard hit so I was figureing on being stuck at home for a couple days.

Around the end of 2005, i was playing lineage II and looking for a different game to play, then my friend told me he was playing a game in his friend's account and showed me.
When i first saw it, it was just ok. He didn't know much about the game except for his own experiences.
I went home, and started looking for some info about GW, like it's origins and the general mindset the led to it's creation. I fell in love right there.

My cousin bought it and started raving about it, so I asked for it for Christmas. I am forever indebted to my Grandpa for buying it. My cousin quit shortly before factions came out and now I am the hardcore GW nerd. We still talk about it occasionally, but I got him hooked on Warcraft 3 and Counterstrike, and he hasn't been back since.

After experiencing Mu, tried to play Lineage2, but grind beat me badly.
So, a dude told me to experience GW. I got hooked instantly.

Wife and I in bestbuy, she picks up Guild Wars and starts asking about it, had no clue what it was because if it was not DnD or Battletech related I wanted nothing to do with it, three years later we are both still playing.
EPO Bot
I was planning on buying Serious Sam 2, but Eve convinced me to take GW instead.
FlamingMetroid
I owned a Gamecube and wasn't much into PC gaming, so when friends told me about GW, I was happy to finaly have a game to play ;p
