How did YOU come across Guild Wars?
Gwmaster
all of my friends had wow, and i didnt have the money for it at that time, so i searched for a free "mmo" ... and came across guildwars, bought it and got addicted lol, although i dont play now..i just watch the forums and stuff.

I had been playing the shooters like Counterstrike etc before guild wars. I fancied trying a MMO but didn't want to commit to a monthly fee like WOW. Also pre searing was exactly the setting I was looking for in this type of game: the fantasy setting.

I think I saw decent reviews for it online and that it worked with a modem.
The guy who sold it to me said, "Don't forget to eat." Words that saved my life more than once.

I saw in Walmart about release time for Proph and although it intrigued me, I didn't get. I kept on looking at it for about a year, and then finally decided to get it in February 06. Played for about 2 months, stopped until I went to my boarding school, where I found my roommate had Factions, so I got Factions for $20 on eBay and have been playing since. I also ended up convincing another hallmate to get it, but now I am the only one left.

Some of my friends that played Gunbound decided to move to Guild Wars. So I decided to join the bandwagon.

was wandering around the military base exchange looking for a new playstation game...didnt find it so i picked up the first decent looking computer game.

My brother bought it and showed to me via webcam. The only thing I knew about an mmo was what I saw on the show Portal on G4 (before they merged with Techtv), which is to say, not much and what I did know seemed that mmo's were garbage.
The control of the character seemed pretty cool, so I went out and bought it.

I got the wrong impression from the local gaming magazine article, so I didn't even consider it at first. Thought it was PvP only.
Then, one day, I wandered into a store and asked about Hellgate London, found out it would still be months before it comes out for them, and began to think aloud about what game to get to while away the time.
And the store guy recommended Guild wars, and cleared up a few misunderstandings. The result is over 1000 hours of fun.
Oh, and about the best thing I ever got out of Hellgate London was that I bought GW to while away the time....

I started playing Guild Wars, as I recall, about 2 or 3 months before Factions came out. I had a new Dell XPS gaming PC, which I still use now, and was looking either for games to play or wallpapers. I can't remember which. But I remember coming across a wallpaper of a game called Guild Wars which simpled showed a building from what I later learned is the Pre-Searing area. It was a few wallpapers actually. Then I looked up what Guild Wars is, then decided to buy and play it. Of course the no monthly fee thing is what really got me to decide on an online game like this. If it was WOW or anything else that's fee based, forget it.

there was this guy called junky slim. he owed me $28,000. I should have took the money. instead I took....
yea, that's my story.

I already had interest in playing a MMO but I never tried. Mostly because I would never buy a pay-for-time game. So when I came across a nicely priced copy of Guild Wars Special Edition in my local game shop I gave it a shot...
And now I'm 3000+ playing hours later, got all expansions and still like the game. :-)
