WTF? another hacked account?

Hey all! Whats this new craze in hacking accounts exactly? after turning off Guild Wars at around 4pm GMT+1 today, I come back right now (four hours later), and someone has been on my account, been to Temple of Balth int dis1, and has stolen 48 Ectos and 4 black dyes o_O They left everything else it seems (still checking), including 6 maxed armors, a tormented recurve bow, several rare weaps, and 100k.

I'd really like Anet to find out who's doing this, coz ive worked really hard to get those ectos, and its kinda disgusted me of playing for a while.

I hope ANet support can track down your ectos through IP logs and trade logs, if such a thing exists, and return them. Or at least delete them so the hacker doesnt profit.

Only thing worth stealing from me are the 250 Bolts of Cloth I have in my storage...

Nonetheless, what is this? A hacker who is good, but sucks at actually doing anything once he's made it in?

Nonetheless, this hacker seems to only steal Ecto and Dyes. Apparently, someone thinks they're the only thing worth something in Guild Wars.

2nd report of this in 2 days. Interesting. Only thing that makes it unusual is that people still have access to their accounts. Something to keep an eye on but the response is still the same, report it to Guild Wars support.

Hmm sounds like to me that its a hacker that doesnt play guild wars, but has an account.. He got a keylogger onto your comp and happened to see through your keystrokes that you played GW, so he searched on google what was worth alot on GW.. it came up with black dyes and ectos. He goes on your account, puts the dyes and globs onto his account.. BAM Done.

Scan your comp for viruses and keyloggers. Have you downloaded anything from an untrusted website recently?

Another possibility exists.... made any "friends" lately on vent or thru forums? Someone whom you don't know in real life but seemed friendly on the forum. Someone who PMs you or chats with you on vent.
Someone who has asked for your e-mail address for any number of innocent reasons. They want to send you a cool farming video from youtube. They want to e-mail you their myspace blog. They want to send you a cool screenshot.
Someone who then uses the e-mail address and a password finder to brute force the account.

As Inde says, report to ANet support and say this is happening to others. Plus give as much detail as possible.

could it be he went to outposts and tried to sell your account for ingame gold?
cuz mostly i see one selling or buying accounts is just a new guy but i saw a lvl 20 with titles 'n all selling his account wich i reported for spamming but still :/

Sounds more like a glitch than an attack. As others pointed out, if you have access, why steal enough to be obvious but not go ahead and take it all? And if you have so much already that you can't steal it all, why bother attacking anything at all?

everytime I see one of these threads I get that sickning feeling in the pit of my stomach since they never really DID fix the ncsoft password issues......

but I checked my account and all 2 of my ectos are still in storage along with my 18 plat......

I know of another person who got hacked......recently but he lost everything and after being hassled by 'support' just bought a new account instead.....

Thats odd but my guess is that they took the dyes and ectos because they can be quickly sold at a merch for cash as opposed to the weapons which would need to be sold to other players for the cash.

Yes, this is a strange series of account thefts. Is it co-incidence, or something more sinister? Bah, into the realms of conspiracy theories now :/

Incidentally, and this is worth mentioning in every account-theft thread - yes, by all means report this to ArenaNet. This will help the community as a whole, but - you won't get your ectos back. Sadly, it can't be done.

So I wont get my ectos back? :'( and this is how you kill the want to play GW...

In any case, as you said, I wont QQ, I'm glad my reporting will at least serve Anet as to help find out what the hell is going on.

What I wonder is why, while they are being very active with the RMT policy, they don't see the transfer of (ex: me) 500k in under a day.

the hacker can't change the password because it redirects you to playNC website and the user/pass for that one is different than your GW login.

One of my guildies was hacked last night. You could watch the members page & see him logging on & off repeatedly between 2 names. Told him to try to hurry & change his PW & contact support.

Spoke to him this morning, everything was gone, did not delete his toons though, just took everything...armor & all. Told him to change his PW & contact support again & to scan his PC. I aksed him if he downloaded anything for GW lately & he said no, I only use (I wont say it, but its a famous virus ridden p2p program).
