At least Faction and Nightfalls stories had definitive conclusions.
all in all i found the plot to be pretty epic, but i sometimes like that style of a plot...though we could have done without the jungle. Dunno its always been my favorite plot.

I just found nightfall to be dreary.

GWEN raelly was a joke of a release, but oh well its guildwars i still play.

With your stated extensive mmo/rpg gameplay and the many many many many many towns and outposts in your area of the game there just isnt any way you should be getting stuck..is there?

Explore..take the henchies out and kill everything u see, is what most first timers do (if friends/guildies arnt available), you sound like u like a good MMO/RPG and yet...wait im ranting and im sorry..

in short, if u dont feel compelled to fight through the missions JUST for the story and are bored @ lvl 14 @ yaks bend..then in all honesty it just sounds like GW isnt for u.

There is a real "duck out of water" feeling about the thread though.

Yep, apart from that he clearly stated that he was at yaks.

Enemies in that area are generally weaker to fire damage according to wiki, so that ought to help, I'll assume you are trying to do Borlis pass, I would have thought that would be possible at your level, but I can't remember exactly.

Is there anything particular with the mission that is causing you trouble, perhaps some people will be able to give advice if they know more.

Nah i finished Borlis pass with henchies. I'm stuck at The Frost Gate. It almost seems that the henchmen get stupider as the mission progresses. The healer is ALWAYS the first to get attacked, then runs in circles till she pulls more mobs.
I swear I can hear baby Jesus cussing her out. But she just aint listening.

Seriously though anything you guys could tell me about the game, my class, personal experience type things would rock. I am trying to learn this stuff as fast as I can, but every time I talk to someone they start throwing out terms that dont mean to me what they mean to them.

This game isn't like a lot of other games you've played online. It's not about grinding to the high level cap and then finding stuff to do, it's storyline based. It's a linear game mostly. You play through it, and if you want you can experience all there is to be offered in other ways outside the storyline.
- So it's a bit like Final Fantasy except the characters don't have any personality, the game is based on endless slaughter of monsters and not much else. Also the genre is MMORPG-ish so you have all the other players, but no one plays together and instead spam the chat with WTS flood. Hey, at least no monthly fee!

- Why is every ****ing person making strawman out of this? Who wants grinding? I don't! I have boring daily job, but at least they pay me for it. This board is full of people whose view of recreational activity is spending six hours a day farming some stupid title with ten million point limit.

The only times i've grouped has been with 1 or two guildies who are lvl 20. The other 3 or 4 groups ive been in were like....train wrecks.

did anyone else felt this way when they first started playing?

I've played both EQ and WoW for about 3 years a piece and I really enjoyed playing both. Although WoW is going a direction I think sucks so I quit.

So what do I do? throw in the towel? or does it get better at lvl 20?
Welcome to guildwars, the video game that keeps on taking but gives little back. Honestly I suggest finding something with a better funfactor. I'v played for 26 months and I'v taken breaks for atleast 6 of those months.

This game has more flaws than any other online game I'v played, the community is worse than diablo2lod's community. The item system is beyond basic. The game is not truely about fun, its about balance, competition and bragging rights. (mini pets and elite armors and weapon skins)

If you like graphics, and thats all thats important, then GW is the game for you. If you need some meat with your taters like i do, then GW will always come up short. Oh and the customer support sucks completely.

In the past 5 days (5th day today) since I'v been on my latest GW break I have been playing COD4(ps3) and d2lod(PC) and I'v had more fun in those 4 days than I'v had on gw ever.

You have to find something that gets you excited and keeps you going (WOW that was friggin awesome) instead of GW's method of ( WOW that could have been better, I cant believe they did it like this and ofcourse the ultimate , WTF is this garbage!.

Even though I am bitter towards GW I am not quitting for good, because I like farming items, I want to complete EoTN and see what else I can do, But for now I am about to buy gta4, MGS4 (june12th) and I'm about to buy an xbox 360 to keep my ps3 company. So I wont miss GW that much.

Good luck, hope you find some redeeming quality in guildwars, but dont hold your breath.

That's Alesia, she's an aggro-control nub. She's a W/Mo wannabe if ever there was one. If you need help with the mission, send me a forum PM.

Also, pulling enemy groups by flagging the henchs back, aggroing (via longbow or just getting them on the edge of your aggro bubble) and leading the enemy to your henchmen makes the game a lot easier.

quit, this game gets boring after some months if you only own 1 campaign. Especially prophecies thats the worst to start with, boring campaign, no hero's, boring storyline (IMHO), I've actually never found anyone who really liked it so much they played the campaign 2 times. I would go play pvp thats some fun for some time...

That's true of almost all MMO's.

Most single player RPG's I've played have been more fun than MMO's precisely because there are no other players. Come to it, most single player games are more fun than MMO's because playing with others is a choice (multiplayer option), not a requirement.

The beauty of GW is that you can take a break if you want to because it's not costing you anything on a monthly basis. GW has a good funfactor when you start, but like all games you eventually become a bit bored, especially when all that's left is grinding.

Quit while you're ahead, try AoC. You'll be thankful.

The community for this game is dwindling, and any good elements of the community that are left are so close knit together in their own little aura of eliteness that they wouldn't dare let anyone else in.

We are a fine community, I never encounter any troubles in game, peoples are always nice to me, and I to them. Peoples helps, sometimes, but enough for me to be pleased.
Dont listen to that Nevin, in every community there are those peoples who says how awefull the community I am currently. This is mostly because of some personal stuffs / unable to find humor.

Missions are there to advance the story. It opens up a bit later but you gotta keep playing. There's also not that much content unless you get the other chapters.

I don't know if anybody else has picked up on this in the thread (haven't looked further yet) but just wanted to point out that a lot of us DID play through Prophs when we were NEW players, with nothing but Hench (no heroes). And that was before they made it easier.

You can breeze through Prophs now even with just henchies. Took the fun right out of THK.

EDIT: having read the rest of the posts - I think you need to learn how to flag your henchies, OP. You can do it via your compass and put them where you basically want in a fight. Though your healers will always run around like idiots...it's actually good for them to stay alive that way

Also, Frost Gate is easy if you remember to always take out the Doylaks first. They're the healers. Get them down fast with your fire skills. Call the target using ctrl then spacebar. It means the henchies will attack what you are. Helps more than you'd think

If I remember correct, the main problem for the areas with 6 people is that there is only 1 healerhenchman. That might make things a bit harder for new players. You can work around that by taking some healing spells yourself too, since you are an E/Mo anyway.

If you haven't noticed yet pretty much all the people that say proph is the best started with it and are a long time player from back in the "golden days". Prophecies have a crap tutorial mode and seems incredibly slow paced. Go with factions and NF after you know a bit more about the game.

If you're bored and unhappy with the game less than 50 hours in, GW may not be for you.

It does help a lot if you have friends who play, since the social element is a big thing. But if this isn't the case, try joining a guild that welcomes new players and see how your luck fares.

It was a lot more player friendly back in 2005 around release, just because there were so many players playing through the game at the same time. It's gotten progressively more anti-social with the introduction of heroes and better NPC skill bars in other campaigns. Most players don't bother with pugs now for anything but the end-game areas.

A better option than just looking for a big guild that wants to help you out would be to find players ingame that are nice and helpfull then add them to your friends list. Its not easy mind you, you will find maybe 1-2 good people out of every 5-10 pugs you join. Just keep adding the good players and talk to them, help them when you can and you will build a good sized group to adventure with.

As for missions vs exploring, I have always been a great lover of going off into the unknown and challenging myself against foes that might be higher lvl than I.

Missions will get you to the end faster, but sometimes speed is not the best thing when learning about this game. Take the time to enjoy the scenery
