Heh, PvX.
Just do it correctly from the very start which means knocklock (constant knockdown). Griffon can't do anything and it dies.
Remember to keep up Flail and you don't necessarily need "For Great Justice".

Immediately when you go in start making minions, and use blood to keep them alive...you should be able to get 8 or 10 on him if you do it right....if your health starts getting very low around 1/4 use grenths....then immediately use life siphon, keep the minions alive to hold the griffon in place...if he escapes you're probably done...so keep adding minions as you go...this works really well. Keep using grenths when your health is low, then follow immediately with life siphon...use dark pact to close.

KD lock is pretty easy, you should already have most of the stuff unlocked (and if you haven't, you should).

I used spirits and Grenths Balance, the Griffin is annoying because he keeps running back to the starting point, I had to keep running through his Spirits hit him with Grenths and run back to my own Spirits with him chasing me (about 10+ times) only near his demise did he follow me to where my spirits were planted, and fight me, from there it was good night Seattle.
Ps. I used Pain Inverter on him at the end 10% of his health but could probably have done without

I don't know what ELSE may work, but I found that a spirit spammer will work for any class whenever you need to do something alone. Any class at all. (OK, I haven't tried a necromancer primary, don't have one, but if a monk and mesmer can do it...)
Ursan blessing - added survival, DPS, knockdown. Works without
Painful bond - doubles damage of spirits: as soon as you have two spirits, it's better than another spirit
Summon spirits - used in the bison arena, but can nicely relocate the whole party
Pain - damage spirit, doubles damage with painful bond
Bloodsong - same as pain, except life steal
Vampirism - same as bloodsong, except it also heals you
Shadowsong - another atack spirit. Counters melee, damage worth it with painful bond
Disenchantment - expensive attack spirit, counters enchant users (Argo and similar arena opponents)
Gear: +energy weapon needed only, any staff should do.
Use against griffon: walk a bit back and up, set up spirits on the ridge (like bows, spirits get extra range from height advantage). Once the spirits are up, lure in the griffon and just survive for a bit (ursan knockdown is a nice thing to do).
Use in arena: walk a step back, summon the three attack spirits plus one additional - shadowsong against attacking enemies and disenchantment against troublesome enchanted foes (Argo, Mhenlo). Run up, cast summon spirits right outside the door before the door closes, painful bond the enemy, then switch to Ursan and charge away.

I remember I did it with this build:
Template code: OQATEHKXZ6qYwgwguQSkvIAYrAA
Don't know how to use it now, but it worked when I did him!

One +energy staff and yes, the warrior does have the energy to spam enough spirits to get the griffon down...

I just had some energy issues, so I never even bothered hitting life siphon. I just created as many minions as I could afford and then just ran around in a circle spamming blood of the master and grenth's where applicable. At the end the minions and my staff finished him. I think he might have only got 1-2 spirits off.

Engage
Whatever class you are lol, just go /R. Barbed arrows + Poison arrow + longbow + kiting = easy win win. Bring some form of speed buff as well, easier to break aggro when kiting. Toxicity could also be added in for a quicker finish.
Kelly G
I did notice using the minions/grenth's method...if you start creating minions right off the bat...then take a step or two forward and to the right while creating them (heading toward the cliff wall on the right), it is easier for the griffon to get stuck inside the minions. I've used this on 3 different characters rather well. It usually just takes a few attempts before you get him stuck...once he's stuck in them...he's toast.....

i need some help killing the glacial griffon as my dervish, any builds or suggestions would help. thx

Pocketmancer
If you're playing as an Elementalist, switch to a Necro-subclass and apply the following build. This was what I used on my E/N.
Grenth's Balance
Blood of the Master
Bone Minions
Bone Horror
Sambling Horror
Immediately as the map loads, start raising every kind of minion you can. When the griffon appears (and is still considered friendly), just walk up to him with the minions. The minions will surround him when he turns hostile and he won't be able to move, which means he can't summon more spirits than one.
Use Blood of the Master to heal your minions. Grenth's Balance to deal damage to the griffon as well as heal yourself. Just wait it out. It'll be dead in a few. Receive bacon.

Just get a Ranger secondary and use apply poison + Longbow. As long as you stay out of range, it'll die eventually. :P

I'd be very interested to know if you or anyone else has had success with the "long range poisoning" ploy RECENTLY, because I tried it repeatedly and hardly had any impact on the griffon's health bar at all, even though it stayed green for ages.
metalhodo
hehe.. i was working my derv out for like 2 months with no results..
till i found the necro build
the griphon died the second time i used it (the first time i killed myself healing the minions

I did it yesterday on my warrior. It took me 27minutes to kill him though
. I took a staff with me to use apply poison every time. I also took Favorable Winds to deal some extra damage. If you keep him poisoned the whole time and give him bleeding from time to time than he will die eventually. Just make sure he doesnt come after you and create spirits where you stand.

It works, it just takes a really really long time. Truth be told, other methods are easier, quicker and don't really require that much more effort.
dargon
What I found to be even more effective than long range poisoning was go /mes and take conjure phantasm, conjure nightmare, yeah, you can't hit from as far away, but more degen than poison.
Rothan Celt
I dne this on dervish
Right what u need to do is....
Get
YOu move like a dwarf
Conjure nightmare
Phantom pain
Ether signet
Avatar of lyssa
Conjure phantom
Powerdrain

poison arrow + barbed arrows + mark of rodgort + fire flat/long bow
Cyric The Liar
Last night my monk and necro both completed this quest on the first try in about two minutes. I used: Curses 12, Death magic 12
Blood of the Master
Animate Bone Minions
Barbs
You Move Like a Dwarf
Finish Him
I haven't tried it, but would expect that Mark of Pain cast on the Griffon would kill any spirits it was able to create.

I see peeps here used MM to beat, I tried that approach and failed miserably every time (I mostly play curses, maybe my inexperience as MM let me down).
In the end I beat it with Grenths, Some Spirits and Pain Inv - I think, can't remember offhand exactly, but I'll post later if I still have template saved, hopefully you'll have beaten it's hairy butt by then

I am a ele nuker and kept dying fast. Finally I took some rit skills, pumped up the atts for Channeling and Communing and took Bloodsong, Pain, Vampirism, Painful Bond. I also took Gaze of Fury to knockout his spirits and Pain Inverter. Also used You Move Like a Dwarf for kd. Done in less than a minute.
Crystal Lake
Hmmm. I'm trying to beat him with my monk. Can I ask how one raises bone minions with no corpses around?
SnipiousMax
^^ The white wolves that were used to 'lure' the griffon are actual corpses
Squiffy
Any profession can kill it easily. Just go /Rt and take lots of damaging spirits (Pain, Bloodsong etc...) and Painful Bond. As soon as you spawn cast as many spirits as possible. Cast all of your spirits, then cast painful bond on the griffon and watch all of the damage
Also, a high energy set is reccomended.

I tried /Rit with my Dervish first of all but found the Gryphs spirits and the Gryph himself kept overpowering me.
Then I did the quest to get UB and killed him first time as /Necro and four skills (I needed to buy just one skill):
Animate Bone Fiend
Animate Bone Minions
Life Siphon
Ursan Blessing
12 in Death and Blood each plus I had 50 energy from Runes/Staff.
Soon as you spawn, cast the Minions, then the Fiend, then the Mins again if you have the energy/time. They'll body-block the Gryph.
Then cast Life Siphon on the Gryph to get 22 seconds of -3 degen on him and +3 regen on you. Immediately get into UB and start pounding him; most of the spirits will attack the mins and he won't be able to move much and should go down quite quickly, less than two minutes in my case.

any ideas for a how a W/Mo can beat it?
