Shing Jea - ftw !
Memories of finding a level 12 giant in the 1st explorable area and thinking it was game over for me.
The story, the way missions flow into one another and finally the setting makes Shing Jea stand out so much more than the other 2.
Only my opinion please don't flame because I don't follow your rule.

While Factions is my favorite campaign and Shing Jea island is a great place to play (except for the chat in Shing Jea Monastary), I think Pre-searing will always be my favorite starting area. Any time I make a core profession character I always start them in Tyria. Elona can burn to the ground in a fiery storm of pain with Koss standing in the middle.
Rothan Celt
xD yea lol first Bigfoot encounter and he was red
NuclearDope
Pre searing was my first and is still my favourite, i've enjoyed all campaigns, but i find the starting areas of Factions and Nightfall incredibly tedious.
Etta
Pre Searing, Ascalon in all her glory. Before the dark time.
poasiods
Shing Jea fo sho... I feel I might have made one too many character in Shing Jea Island to appreciate it so much now, but it still beats the other two.
Pre-Searing Ascalon... Bleh, making noob combos with the random skills you receive gets old after level 3. (Btw, should everything from Pre-Searing Ascalon to Shiverpeaks be considered Prophecies noob area instead of just the Pre-Searing?)
Yeah, Istan can burn.

My favorite is Pre-Searing. Not for the content (although it looks and sounds great even now) but because that is where I started. Shing Jea and Istan simply don't give me the same nostalgic feeling when I start a new character there.
Ghen
shing jea as i started when factions came out
Tingi
Gotta be Pre. One of my favourite places in all of Guild Wars. So much nostalgia in that place.
Shing Jea is pretty good too.
Istan was awful. Hated it.

Pre's good, but I did find it a bit tedious after a while (couldn't be bothered with Gate Monkeys), same goes for Shing Jea but that's more to do with the Afflicted exploding on me than anything else.
Istan is... *shrugs* I've dragged two characters through there that are still around: my main (first character I ever had as well) and a monk which is rank 1 Survivor. I don't like it there really, the scenary is so-so compared to Pre and Shing Jea.

Shing Jea Island. Factions was the first game I bought and i took my time exploring every nook and cranny and doing every quest I found when I was new. Shing Jea feels like home.
Then I progressed to the city area and I REALLY missed the island scenery.

Pre is hands down the best area in the entire game. Relaxing environment, soothing music, non aggressive enemies. ANET got it right the first time.... then screwed it up..... twice.
Stolen Souls
Shing Jea Island is my favorite. I love the spot outside Tsumei with the blossom trees. Very relaxing. Almost all of the scenery there is very pretty, or interesting.
Pre is the Red-Light district of the Guild Wars world. The meeting place of the pervs, stalkers, and guys pretending to be girls. I avoid it. Though if I don't have to deal with the people, it is nice as well.
Istan is ok. Way, way too long and drawn-out. And the scenery isn't exactly my style.

Nick Of Troy
Pre is my favourite newb area; I love the scenery and music. Fond memories of slaying Bill the grumpy bull and trips into the Northlands, plus the "sunbeam" in the Northlands is awesome

Shing Jea , without doubt . I have 1 Prophecies Char (lvl20) and 2 from NF (lvl3-6ish) , all now mules .My other 8 chars were remade as Factions characters since the start area was much more suited to my tastes.
The scenery was nice , the areas pretty well balanced , the quests/missions were fairly varied and most importantly it could be done at a nice speed. I could not (and ive tried) take a character through Pre and all the way thorugh prophecies again. The pre-lvl20 area is just too massive to bother with for me.
Istan just bored the crap out of me. Don't know if that had anything to do with the Paragon/Dervish classes which i didnt enjoy much.

Pre-searing is just epic and will always be my favorite, but Shing Jae is nice too, if not over too quickly.
Maximumraver
Pre-searing, still wins all.
ApocalypseAzza
istan is such a horrible grind
lilraceangel3
pre FTW! I like shing jea when i want to fill up my crafting storage tho...
Shiro's Prophet
Shing Jea ftw. hahaa
oliverrr1989
I like pre its purdy as for istan i hope it usplodes its the worst place in all of guild wars it can take weeks to get a character through there first time if you're no hardcore player and its horrible and the grind is awful they should just delete it and make all NF characters start at yohlon haven lv 18 r7 sunspear with 10k or so.
Pleikki
Pre is fun but i love fainding Panda on exploable at shing jea
sir hepe
I think that Pre-Searing is THE place. It gives me good memories, it has excellent scenes and music. And as someone before noted, there are unagressive foes. Why not make more unagressive foes, since it is boring to whack every single foe in the area if it really is not necessary.
Xx_Sorin_xX
pre-searing looks the best imo, but shing jea is so nice to just level up and move on.
Targren
I thought Pre was the best when I didn't have two end-game characters, so saving a couple-hundred gold on crappy skills was good.
Now it's just drawn out, tedious and irritating. Shing Jea FTW.

i started with prof so pre-searing is my favorite cuz of the relaxing feel and i only have advanced one character through istan and that was enough for me
Squishy ftw
Pre.
Because that's where it all started..

I have to go with Shing Jea.
Pre-Searring was nice first time seeing it, but it felt too much like a sterotypical and childish fairy tale. It was too sunny and bright, and though where were some nicer places, it just wasn't enough.
Istan was a desert, like the rest of Nightfall.
Shing Jea has a real mystic feeling, without looking too fairy tale, so it had more of a believable feel to it than Pre-sear had. And where Pre has too sunny, Shing Jea is light, but not overdone, there's still a windy feel to it.

Istan is barely a "starting area". It plops you in the world in no time at all.
Shing Jea is neat.

To rephrase my question now....
What campaign is your fave to start a new char in.
MMSDome
Temple of Ages, tons of noobies there.
And regarding the area where we start its definetly Pre.

Pre-Searing definitely gives me nostalgic feelings. I love the music there. However, I enjoyed the larger storage, ability to go to Guild Hall, and more content featured in Shing Jea.
Istan was ok, but the scenery didn't seem as diverse as that of Shing Jea's. By this time there were already so many titles in the game that you had to start grinding for Sunspear rank right away - that is what I most dislike about Istan. I do not like grinding so I choose not to do it. Most of my Prophecies characters were remade in Shing Jea once Factions came out. I managed to get a Paragon out of Istan but I certainly wouldn't do that again!

Pre-searing tops any area in the game.
Next is shing jea.
Dead last is Istan

When I first got Factions I had made four characters and they were all Prophecies characters. I deleted every single one except my mesmer and restarted them in Shing Jea. Don't get me wrong, I love Pre-Searing, AND Kaineng is just awful, but Shing Jea is insanely awesome.
Tosha
presearing... With local chat turned off of course. Whenever I am bored, I make a new proph charrie and take long walks there, for no other reason than to enjoy the environment
Ama Seraphim
personally i like Shing Jea
Monkey Slayer
Liked Pre when I first made my char, simply because you could progress at your own leasure.
Shing Jea is better only in the fact that you can progress through the starting area a little bit faster.
Istan...oh where do I begin. That place fails.
hard. The NEED to gain a certain rank in order to progress sucked. The NEED to collect 2 measly termite legs off of enemies that NEVER dropped them sucked. The whole bounty thing kind of meshed into EotN ok. All in all, Istan can, as someone on the first page said, "Burn in a fiery pit, with Koss the man who can't seem to win over a girl through the whole freaking game, smack dab right in the middle.
