I wasn't sure where to post, so I put it here

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed, but does Racism/Abuse seem to be on the up? Just today I saw someone by the name of 'Heinreich Goebells' (A Nazi) or something like that shouting racist abuse towards players. I've seen people join team's just to be Racist/Abusive because there charecter is Dark Skinned. I think that something should be done.

Simple.

Report them. Take screenshots. They will suspend/ban the offenders. Simple as that.

Are they going to pour over chat logs to look for such things? No. They will only react when it's brought to their attention.

That's what the support website and the "Violation" report is for.

First, Guild Wars is the name of the product by Area Net. Guild Wars doesn't do anything. But what else could they do? If you get easily offended, just turn on the filter. It will at least reduce it. As for the racist names, Anet won't go through every name as they're being created and approve it.

seriously, anyone who takes serious offence at what some numb-nuts shouts at you over the computer needs to have their head examined. Sticks and stones applies.

plus, i've never seen any blatantly racist people outside of shing jea monastery, and i really don't think this is a pressing issue.

Its the internet. Being essentially, completely anonymous, people tend to think they can do and say whatever they want. Its no better or worse in any other online game/forum/etc...

Anet does what it can, there are filters in place for swears and offensive terms(Heinreich Goebells, not being censored as it is a real German name). EULA warns against it and bans are issued where such behavior is found. But there are a lot of players and a lot of chat logs to scroll through, so someone in a position to stop such behavior won't always be there on the spot.

So just report them and move on, they'll get what they deserve soon enough.

Who cares? Its the internet, and like in real life, racism exists. You can't blame people for hating on a peticular group of people.

They don't ban you from life if you say racist comments in real life.

Grow up, deal with it.

edit: I would prefer Anet just leave the player population alone unless they are hacking/abusing some exploit. Why ban people for doing things that aren't exploiting the game itself?

I do agree a little bit that there is some racism, but its not that big of deal. I only saw it one time. There was a guild recruting and it had N I * * * R in the recruting statement. I was sort of pissed that someone was doing it, but it was over and done with in like 30 seconds...

I don't think Anet is doing enough, however its "free to play" or that's the excuse at least for few to no mods.

You can expect these things on the internet, doesn't mean you should tolerate them.

I don't care what people do and nothing really offends me at all. Despite this I still report them. Why? It takes no effort on my part and I hope in some way it inconveniences them, even if it's only a temporary ban. I hope the report feature isn't only for show and they actually look at the reports (even if it is only from time to time). Anonymity is no excuse for stupidity.

I've never seen any racist remark in GW. With a total playtime of 3000+ hours, that seems very unlikely given that racism is widespread in the game. But I could be lucky.

You think they have people in game searching thru every name made or checking random chat logs looking for language or racism??

They ban people if they get reported thats all they can do.

I've played fps games that were far better moderated by volunteers. Comes down to there not really being a system in place for Guild Wars. Support can't be in every instance in the game and kick a troll as soon as they start doing something, so you're basically stuck with take it or leave it. And sure you can report people, but a days after the fact punishment system doesn't prevent much of anything.

Racism is agains the EULA and Anet will react to reports of it... but you do have to report it first so they can even get a heads up on what to look out for.

Some people will just push for the border to see if it exist. One never knows whether they are dead serious about it or if it is just provocation.

Imagine you had to monitor a city with a population of 100.000, there is just no way you can effectively do that. But that's how GW is, it is a large place of people interacting and Arenanet has not the surveillance capacities of East Germany.

I don't get this. I have never had more than one person on my ignore list, and by contrast I constantly have to delete names from my friend list to make space.

If you take the steps and pass on enough info to Support via a ticket, they will take action.

Saw a guy in LA blatantly advertising a racist guild, screened it, reported him, sent the screen to Support and he was banned.

Most stuff from kids in game rolls off my back, but this guild advert was terrible.
