What would you bring?
Dawning
I've been thinking about this for a while now, since ursan came there haven't been much use of other groups (This is not a QQ-thread), in FoW,DoA and other highend HM stuff.
But my question is; if you don't run ursan, and instead running a synergised team (Warrior, monk, necro, ele) what would you bring as the last spot?
Paragon, Dervish, Mesmer, Ritualist, Ranger, Assassin
Thanks =)
Edit; Added ranger and assassins.

If you got a warrior in your party I'll go for a ritualist restoration/channeling.

another necro. Or maybe an imbagon

Paragon players are always useful, take them as an imbagon (see paragon forum/EVERYWHERE) and then a couple of your players could do away with support and focus more on damage. If the para takes [["Fall Back!"] aswell then you'll get the whole area finished in about 1/3 of the time.
Although many would argue that the imbagon is as broken as ursan, but I think that a [[Cruel Spear] para is just as worth the slot.

Me as a paragon, with Cruel Spear, TNTF, and SY. Who needs that crappy Imbagon build when you have Frenzy and decent healers? (And half a mind when and when not to use Frenzy)
upier
I'd start by kicking the ele.
Jetdoc
Paragon is a no brainer.

In the case of a full build, I would go with...
Warrior (D-Slasher)
Warrior (Earth Shaker)
Dervish (Wounding Striker / AoM)
Ranger (Magebane)
Ele / Rit (Mind Blaster with Splinter Weapon / Rit Resto Channel hybrid)
Paragon / Necro (DA / Imbagon / Cruel Spear / Orders)
Monk (WoH Hybrid)
Monk (WoH Hybrid)
KILLING STUFF GOGOGO!!!

How about ditch Frenzy and take the strongest IAS you can get for a Paragon, which is Aggressive Refrain?
Nessar
Paragon most likely or maybe the rit for weapon spells...

rangers and assassins are balanced?
lolz, news to me makosi
Paragons with "SY!" and "TN2F!" are next on the list of retarded button-mashing to Ursan. I like to laugh at the anti-Ursan guilds who abuse these Paragon builds and claim superiority.
kostolomac
Most likely imbagon , TNTF spear para or a splinter/warmonger rit ( I suppose you have a ranger in group already?). Mesmer if the other roles I mentioned are there and you need interrupts and/or more hex removal with some more utility.

Depends so much of my group setup and where we're heading... yet I rarely run the good ol' balance group. Last partially human groups I had, I wound up with 3 paragons, SS necro (myself), a hybrid rit, PD mes, a water nuker... I'd run melee heroes more often if they had decent AI, although I do take Devona in EOTN areas (KDs are FTW). So if I run with a warrior, a sin or a derv they're human 90% of the time.
- Paragon in general. Good buffs, decent attacks if needed, can set it up as an expelagon if needed (they come in handy!). - Derv if I need holy damage and something to "forget" about (Menlandru derv). - Anti-whatever mesmer depending on the area. I usually ran with Dunham instead of Orion in my H/H Prophecies vanquishing. Or I'm the interrupt mesmer (interrupting is ftw). - Rits come in handy if I wanna run something "different" than the traditional 2 monks setup, although if I run with real people I'll generally have a rit by my side =]. He plays hybrids BTW. Mortal Amongst Mere Gods

Along with that, I'd kick the healing monks too. Then take an MM necro, SS necro, 2 Resto necros, Battery necro, Prot monk, DSlash+"SY!" warrior, and an Imbagon. Maybe replace the Imbagon with another Resto necros if I can't get one.

I dont think a team could be called "balanced" if there weren't a spot in it for each profession.
Squishy ftw
Ditch the ele
Ditch the necro Add some dervish/rit/paras BTW, I hope you're not talking about tank 'n spank when you mention 'balanced' ? Tyla

Then there is no such thing as a "Balanced" team build? jiggles

Balanced, i dunno.. but when i said it, i ment the most original. When i'm joining group's ( not starting my own, cuz i would take heroes and guildies only aswell) but if i join a group, there usually end up with
Warrior Necro Ele Monk Monk and a couple of spots for random, which usually fills in with another necro etc. cuz i know there are alot of hate against assassins for example, but when a nuker joins or a MM necro joins, i've never heard anyone complained. Thanks for the replies i've got so far, very intressting to see what other thinks And I apologize for my terrible english ^^ *and of the characters i've said, i would probably take a paragon. Molock
I usually have
-Mindblast Elementalist w/ utility -D-slash warrior -WoH heal/prot monk -Discord necro/BHA ranger/elementalist -Scythe assassin/MSDB assassin -N/Rt healer -SS necromancer -Minion master/warrior/dervish That's my usual 2 person + heroes set up. Necros are awesome in PvE ofc If I had access to a player paragon I would take one of those.. imbagons makes things too easy though... Orange Milk

I would just take the first skilled players I can find, not caring about professions. If they know what they are doing, you should have no problems anywhere.

Ditch the necro, bring a Para and a Rit.

Actually this is where the debate starts.
If you are bringing a full human team - then monks are the way to go. If you are going AI - then resto necros are superb. And with that - anything melee isn't. So if you'd be going AI - then stuff like Barrage rangers (with SW on the 14 Channeling ritu) are better. Ohh and a battery necro is bad. So is Imbagon + prot monk + 2 resto necros ... does the defense ever stop!?? (Imba + Prot/WoH monky - should do the trick! Plus you'll prolly be running a channeling/resto ritu - and that guy can then also bring PwK/Life/WoW.) Gregslot
Warrior - KD
Dervish Reaper's - Sweep Assassin - attack spam with Moebius+CriticalStrike Ranger - Broadhead Arrow, snare traps interrupts Paragon - General imbagon Rit - Recovery + weapons (great dwarf, sundering weapon) 2 Monks Shyft the Pyro
What this thread needs is a reality check.
Ideally, I would bring the following: 1 Warrior: KD machine - hammer skills and/or [skill]Shock[/skill], [skill]Brawling Headbutt[/skill], [skill]Club of a Thousand Bears[/skill], with [skill]A Touch of Guile[/skill] for extra shutdown. 1 Dervish: [skill]Armor of Sanctity[/skill] + [skill]Veil of Thorns[/skill] + [skill]Reap Impurities[/skill] + [skill]Wearying Strike[/skill] + [skill]Contagion[/skill] + [skill]Dark Aura[/skill] + [skill]Signet of Agony[/skill] 1 Paragon: [skill]There's Nothing To Fear![/skill] + [skill]Go for the Eyes![/skill] + [skill]They're on Fire![/skill] + [skill]Save Yourselves![/skill] + [skill]Focused Anger[/skill] + [skill]Aggressive Refrain[/skill] + [skill]Hexbreaker Aria[/skill] 1 Ranger: [skill]Broad head Arrow[/skill] + [skill]Distracting Shot[/skill] + [skill]Concussion Shot[/skill] + [skill]Apply Poison[/skill] + [skill]Throw Dirt[/skill] + [skill]Screaming Shot[/skill] + [skill]Pestilence[/skill] 1 Necromancer: [skill]Foul Feast[/skill] + [skill]Plague Sending[/skill] + [skill]Weaken Armor[/skill] + [skill]Enfeebling Blood[/skill] + [skill]Epidemic[/skill] + [skill]Masochism[/skill] + [skill]Cultist's Fervor[/skill] 1 Elementalist: [skill]Mind Blast[/skill] + [skill]Mark of Rodgort[/skill] + [skill]Rodgort's Invocation[/skill] + [skill]Pain Inverter[/skill] + [skill]Finish Him![/skill] + [skill]You Move Like A Dwarf![/skill] + [skill]Blinding Flash[/skill] 1 Monk: [skill]Glyph of Renewal[/skill] + [skill]Divine Spirit[/skill] + [skill]Protective Spirit[/skill] + [skill]Patient Spirit[/skill] + [skill]Remove Hex[/skill] + [skill]Cure Hex[/skill] + [skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill] 1 Ritualist: [skill]Glyph of Swiftness[/skill] + [skill]Attuned was Songkai[/skill] + [skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill] + [skill]Great Dwarf Weapon[/skill] + [skill]Weapon of Warding[/skill] + [skill]Wielder's Boon[/skill] + [skill]Soothing Memories[/skill] Basically, the above is condition-way on steroids: Bleeding (D, R, W if sword), Blind (E, R), Burning (E), Cracked Armor (E, N), Crippled (D, E), Dazed (R), Deep Wound (D, E, W if axe), Poison (R), Weakness (D, N). Disease is absent because it may spread through the team on occasion, though the necro could just steal it off the party and throw it back if desired. Between Epidemic, Pestilence, and Plague Sending there should be no shortage of condition transfer whatsoever. Weakness, [skill]There's Nothing to Fear![/skill], [skill]Save Yourselves![/skill], and [skill]They're on Fire![/skill] will all reduce enemy damage output greatly. The only real danger will be keeping the necro and the dervish from dying to sacrifice, but each of the party's healers has a way to spam their skills. Damage-wise, there are no "big guns," but party synergy should more than make up for it. [skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill], [skill]Great Dwarf Weapon[/skill] and Cracked Armor will crank up the damage of the physical attackers, and the constant condition spam should keep the enemies at max degen. And that's without even mentioning the ever-popular boss-remover, [skill]Pain Inverter[/skill]. That's what I'd run in ideal conditions. In reality, though, most pugs lack any form of coordination, and always fall back to the "tried and true" methods. What you're most likely to see is: 1 tank (to hold aggro) 2 tank (to hold aggro when tank 1 dies/ragequits) 1 nuker (to spam Mind Blast) 2 nuker (to spam Searing Flames) 1 monk (to heal) 2 monk (to prot/bond/overheal/heal when monk 1 dies/ragequits) 1 necro (a.k.a. "battery," with or without curses spells) 1 "whatever joins" - Ritualist, Ranger, Dervish or Paragon, mostly - or yet another "redundancy" slot. Yes, I know Mesmers and Assassins aren't on the list, but that's only because most Me or A players have long given up on getting into pugs (the recent Shadow Form incident notwithstanding). distilledwill

Ever think there could be a reason for that? Maybe it's not just a blind hate towards assassins? Personally, 99% of assassin's I've ever partied up with in PvE shadow step in, so they get into the agro faster than the warriors, start taking damage way before the monks even have a chance to arrive, and since they only have 70 armor, they die straight away and then the infamous "WTF WHY NO HEAL NOOBZ!!" message pops up in team chat. Because it's obviously not their fault, since they're a muthafuggin ninja.
