Steam is awesome man, it has such a huge list of games available and if Guild Wars gets added to that list i bet it will add lots more people playing to this

And before you say something about it being forever, companies DO turn their bellies up sometimes (Hellgate London, anyone?) and that leaves customers at loss...
And why would it attact people to GW? Stema is used for updating/managing games, GW has no use for that, it has superior system for that.

I think the OP is referring to the store. You can buy non-Valve games via Steam. The app itself isn't necessary for updates and so on since Anet takes care of that already.

And I would love Guild Wars to be added to Steam, downloading Guild Wars from Steam's nZone servers is way faster then Arena Net's 200KB~ servers.

I dislike Steam, and I don't see how it would really help GW to have it on there.

I really like steam, but I can see no valid reason to have GW on it.

I don't really get the arguments that steam sucks, but as for why it DOESN'T suck..... And why I personally use the "add non-steam game to steam" function and run guild wars through steam....
1. I can actually talk to friends who aren't on guild wars, without leaving fullscreen and having to enter other windows.
2. It notifies all of your friends so they know you're on guild wars, in case they were thinking about it but didn't know if anyone they knew was even ON guild wars.
3. Removes desktop clutter.
4. Auto-starts when my computer starts anyway, so I don't have to search for it or anything.
5. There's no way to screw up and accidentally PM the wrong person or say something in the wrong chat.
6. Anet doesn't get logs of what's said, I don't really like that about GW, anet keeps track of everything typed if they wanted to look it up, including whispers.
7. I can talk to people I want to on guild wars, while remaining offline if I don't want others to talk to me.
I could possibly think of more, but you get the picture... I <3 steam.

Even if it's too late to add this game to Steam, please add GW2 to steam.
I'd love to share my achievements with my friends.
I am also someone who launches GW from Steam. =)

LOL steam is made by a different company entirely.....

Steam works for offline games where it helps against piracy.
GW, being online game, has no such issues, as such, steam has absolutely nothing to offer, except abysmally poor experience, and incredible amount of annoyance compared to the current GW launcher which is exceptional in the world of online games.

Plus I can check my friends list and go... "Oh hey, I'm bored as all heck in guild wars atm, but 5 of my friends are on the same TF2 server. Howsabout I go join them for awhile?"

EDIT : As for steam and Anet merging.... not possible in my opinion. Anet is a part of NCsoft, the greater company. Unless NCsoft decided to be a part of steam, guild wars won't be a "steam game" but you can of course add it to steam anyway...
DarkNecrid
It's amazing how clueless/downright wrong some people are ITT.
Here we goooo:
The chances of Steam going under is very unlikely. You're more likely to die 20 seconds from me typing this post, than Steam going under. Valve is VERY VERY well off (they have yet to make a game that sells like crap/doesn't perform well...even Blizzard Entertainment has Justice League Force and Death and Return of Superman!), and have a ton of people helping with Steam.
Sooo....do that?
A game being on Steam doesn't mean you need Steam to use it. That is only true for Valve's games. Call of Duty 4 for example, is on Steam but you can launch it outside of Steam because it doesn't require it. Same for Trackmania...and....every non-Valve game actually.
That's good, you don't have to.
Also, that's like saying it is pointless stocking Guild Wars at Target because Best Buy has it already.
Integrated off-game friend list, faster downloading updates (nZone always dl at your max speed, unlike GW which goes at like 200kbs), more exposure to people = more sales.
See above.
They don't. They just pay for Guild Wars to be on the steam service. The only games that uses Steam servers are Valve's. No other game uses Steam servers, nor does any other game require Steam really.
More sales.
Most of you guys should probably learn more about the subject at hand before you talk down about it or say misleading / completely incorrect info about the program.

I've been through all the updates since steam took over CS with patch 1.6, for the next year+ steam would become your worst nightmare. Hot damn they've finally managed to make it something worth all the time and effort.

And be glad Steam does still fix bugs after 3 years, I know a company that doesn't...
You can also use Steam to back-up your games incase you have to reformat.

I never liked steam anyway. The downlaod feature comes built into gw and the only other features that are any use are also available in the less obtrusive xfire.
Not to mention xfire has a full host of other features available.

I may be wrong, but as far as I know, you could simply change the password and contact e-mail. Though I'm sure steam, who actually has good customer support, could resolve this issue if you brought it up to them. Unlike Anet, whom whenever I had an issue, replied, transferred me to someone else, then someone else, then another person, then basically said... "Durrr.... We don't know. We're going to take your question the wrong way and not really answer it at all, because we don't know."
Edit : on a side note, I think it'd be nice to have an area where people can find out what games other players play, so they can try playing with them. I met a whole clan in TF2 that played guild wars also... unfortunately, it turns out all of them only started playing less than a month ago when I met them... so I've mostly been teaching them how to do things, what to do, what not to do... ect.

There's a pretty large disparity between people who know what they're talking about and people who don't like this idea.
Before I become the Steam Nerd Defense Force, I'm gonna jump out after this:
Steam is an awesome utility and should not be overlooked by any game developer.

I use steam (mainly for TF2)
I've bought some games on it
I never had any problems recently with it (except if you count problems that everybody had with steam when it was launched in 2004)
I find steam really cool now, extremely useful and waaaaaay better than what it was some years ago (remember when HL2 was launched?)
And I'll probably buy more games on it (Left4Dead, here I come^^)
Guild Wars on steam? why not...I won't be shocked by that but I don't think that ncsoft will agree

What I dislike about steam:
First two pictures...
vs
Steam vs Photoshop on startup. Steam is a launcher. A LAUNCHER. And it uses nearly as much memory as photoshop, and WAY more processor time.
Let's go on...
I'm a long time CS player, so it's not like I never use it. The point is, for something that is just a launcher, it's given a LOT of people a LOT of headaches.

Let's go on...
- If you REALLY need to chat with your friends while you're playing GW, there's a reason they give you WINDOWED MODE.
- Do you REALLY swap games SO much that you need a launcher with all of them listed? ( http://www.launchy.net/ )
- Are you so lazy that you can't click on a shortcut on your desktop/start menu/etc?
- Do you honestly believe that having MORE people on steam is a good idea? Yeah, that's just what the steam servers need... more people. Not like they ever have issues.
- If you don't like having to log into GW each time, there IS a way to have it autologin for you. "C:\Games\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -fps 60 -password xxxxxxx

Steam is a resource hog as toastgod proved, its also slow for updates, usually when a large update comes out all the servers slow right down.
I dont see why its needed, doesnt help in any way just an inconvenience.

xfire does everything that steam does without forcing the installation of a somewhat crappy program aka the aforementioned steam.dont jump at me,i use steam too (css,hl2dm,cod4,portal and so on)but i just cant see how gw coming to steam/valve is productive because 1 thing and 1 thing only will happen.
the ursan and shadow form QQing will end up on steampowered.com forums and steam/valve/anet still wont give a flying rats ass about trying to fix their "broken"
neither entity can fix their broken stuff now,i can imagine total carnage if steam/valve +anet ever unite
