Does rank mean anything to you?
Thizzle
I don't even want to try Heroes' Ascent anymore. It sucks because any HA guilds want r3+ which you can't get because groups won't let you in. This group I joined didn't even care about my build they just wanted rank. I was the one that made the comment about the Zaishen because I usually get a laugh when someone uses /zrank to me. I have little patience for that stupid gamer mentality.
Lothlorian Sassun
HA has had rank discrimination 1 month after HA was invented. And your lucky if all they want is R3... Normally I see GLF R6+ w/vent

Honestly, rank doesn't mean anything to me. If anything, it's to show that you've "been in the game" for awhile on now. But I will say I'm a bit impressed when I see someone's phoenix.

moar "im not r3 yet, lets all forget about fame requirements till i get r3, kthxbai" QQ threads?
edit: im sure they cared about your build, but why would they accept you when they could get a different person with higher rank to play the same build? its the way ppl play in HA, and you can either get r3 the same way everyone else did, or stop playing HA, at least in pugs. the rank discrimination is not gonna change.

Rank means one of 2 things to me anyway..
Either you are really good at PvP
Or
You bought fame at 3k per fame
but to answer your question, NO, rank means nothing to me as long as I am having fun.

Not any more, but it's worth taking the best you can. PvP experience is PvP experience no matter the build.
Gift3d
Do what the rest of the unranked people do, have no title on and spam for r8+. You're clearly not a noob, just unranked, so you'll have no problem running a group of people who are very experienced, right? Of course!

I lol'd. I'm pretty sure your build doesn't matter because it'll change. Maybe... people want to win? Clearly you have zero experience in PvP from what you said, so I'm just going to go off on a tangent and say that it was a good decision to reject you.

If you're as experienced as someone in a R6+ group or something, make a group yourself and if you know what you're talking about, people should stay. Haven't HA'ed in a while though, don't know if the stupidity has increased.
Classic Monk
Well instead of creating a forum and whining about rank discrimination, you could be out in HA creating a group and earning fame like the rest of us did.
Itokaru
Rank means nothing to me, except that the person in question spends more time grinding their title than others.
sean520
not at all. i would rather have a r3, that got his fame by balanced, then a r10 that got his fame by sway
too many people get high ranks by swaying, it doesnt mean their good at all

A r6 person will most likely know what to do in the Antechamber and be familiar with the tactics, whereas an unranked person will probably run around clueless like a headless chicken. wut.
Issac
Don't really see much difference in a R3 and a R6, only thing is that one has done a lot more battles, honestly the R3 is probably just as skilled if not better then the R6, but that doesn't play that often or something. Basically by R3 if not sooner you've experienced almost everything HA has to offer in understanding the maps, game play and such.

Of course rank matters. I personally dont care about it at all, because I dont play HA, but if I did, I'd be looking to form a group of players roughly equal to my skill level or better, hence the recruitment minimums.
Its not unlike forming a PvE party and kicking those who wont ping their builds, who fail to type in anything but caps, who wont adjust their builds to the request of the party, who shout "Go! Go! Go!" without any patience for party formation, etc. I've had very successful PUGs ever since Prophecies and its rare that I have been in a bad one, but to do so, you have to discriminate a little when recruiting, kick when you have to, be careful who you join, etc. Same goes for PvP, although personally I'd prefer not to PUG HA if I played there, instead playing within a PvP guild, where you dont need to worry about rank at all, since everyone knows everyone else.
If you dont meet the rank requirements of forming parties, lower the rank requirement and try to form your own. It would suck in the early going, to be sure, but its how one progresses in experience and rank. That or join a decent PvP guild and be patient and willing to listen, learn and accept criticism.

Rank does mean something to me. The higher one's rank, the less respect I have for the person.
I've met some rather nice r6+ people, but 80% of the ones I've met have all had their heads crammed so far up their posteriors that they see with their toes.
Most of them try to say "work for your fame like we worked for ours" but it's much easier said than done... Especially when the average rate for gaining fame is about 1 every 2 hours or so.
I agree wholeheartedly with you.

Rank means experience. (Take ebay/buying fame out of the equation)
Rank 10 swayer has more experience than a R3 "balanced" player. (No balanced in HA, but let's assume legoway, D/E spam, other gimmick, IS balanced)
At the end of the day, the R10 swayer DOES know how to run a Relic, how to body block (Maybe not, but atleast knows the basics), how to do certain things.
Offcourse, rank most definatly doesn't mean skill, as the majority of the R10+ population in HA right now, is nothing more than Rspikers, ritspikers, swayers, legowayers, etc... (And I mean non-callers, a caller pretty much carries the group in these builds, besides button-bash, that is a non-brainer for everyone)
Today, I saw a R12 guy (Most people know him, and also know he got 99% of his fame playing Expell Rit in sway) play Rit-b!tch for a lego-ish way.
He was alone vs another rit (from a sway) in a base on cap points.
The rit from the sway (prolly unranked) takes out his wand, and wands the R12 guy to death. The R12 guy franticly tried to "spear" the Expell Rit. He simply didn't have a wand. (Not even for WoW or anything).
(HE also just stood still, and got owned by A-rage every time)
I'm just making a point here:
Rank means experience, not skill. The problem is that most HA'ers, mainly because they did in fact shit-build'ed their rank, think that Rank means skill.
If you get rank descriminated, form your own groups, it's that simple. If you think you can't call your own groups, then you should understand why people won't take you in the first place.
YOU got to make the first move, not someone else.

Yeah sure r10 will do more damage but what the F right, ursan is overpowered already so a few points wont hurt general gameplay.
But personally i hate it that people want rank x only, probably the main reason why i never do HA.

No. Never has been, and this late into the game's life cycle it is only worse (especially after double fame weekends).
Rank is flawed because it is not based on the ELO system (like the guild rating and HvH rating is, based on the mathematical system orignally developed to rank chess masters). Rank should go up if you win, down if you lose, based on the rank of your oppenents. That way, you can't just grind repeatedly. Without a way to lose rank, there is no way to properly judge skill level.
If you only win 5% of your HA matches, you clearly are a terrible player/in bad teams a lot. But if you've played 5000 matches, you can grind yourself up to having a respectable rank.
If you win 70% of your HA matches, but have only played... 120 times, you look like a bad player and a noob compared to the guy who grinded away for his rank.

HA is a cycle of death, much like the Jade Quarry. In order to get rank, you need to win. In order to win, you need to be in a high-ranked group, because PUGs without rank almost always lose on the first round. In order to be in a high-ranked group, you need rank. In order to get rank, you need to win.
And that is the reason I never play HA. Also, HA guilds or pvp-only guilds still require you to have some rank just to get in. Which means you need to win to get the rank. Which means you need to be in a high-ranked group. Which means you need rank.
So in short, HA has already shot itself in the head, and one day will be so dead that unranked people have a chance to win. Thus giving them rank, allowing them to remake the high-rank groups, which will require rank, which requires you to win to get the rank, which means you need to already have fame to get into the high-ranked groups, and the stupidity of HA grows even more. ^_^

That said, I still stick to my post in terms of the way rank currently is within GW, since it is not set up in the way you describe and we have to work with what we have, like it or not. Higher ranks can generally be assumed to have more experience, especially when you get over rank 5 or 6. Its not always true, and in no way distinguishes actual skill as you point out, but its still the best indicator of determining some level of PvP experience among strangers when trying to form a PUG group for HA or to get into a decent PvP guild. I otherwise think rank is meaningless. Means nothing to PvE players. It also really holds no value once within a PvP guild, since everyone knows everyone else, their actual skill level regardless of rank, their ability to listen and be an asset to a team, etc.
MMSDome
Yea it sucks but really you can't blame them. People don't really want to take chances so that is why there is rank discrimination. People want to win right away and with a low ranked person you cant always be sure you will win.
Yea it sucks but you need to understand it from their point of view.

I've pretty much abandoned pvp in GW for now as I don't have the time I need to get good at it. If I wanted to go pvp now, all I know is my lack of rank is something of a noob barrier I'd have to invest time in to get past so I can more easily do fun HA... that's all rank means to me at the moment.
cosyfiep
rank has no meaning to me at all...the people who use it are not people that I usually game with---I dont pvp, gvg, etc.....
its useless in my opinion.

Play the "shitty" builds while gaining basic PvP skill/map knowledge.
Play late/early when the areas are more empty
The list gos on and on

rank doesnt equate to skill thats for sure and the only thing it shows/means is ha experience NOT pvp skill ~~ for real i have a decent amount of ha exp and i have freinds who swayed their entire fame r9/10 + and some of the things ive witnessed from high rank players is laughable e.g casters using one weapon set r9+ groups using ooa and grenths avatar (prenerf: enchant removal) against nr/tranq, pd who cant interrupt 1 and 2 second cast snares + many many more things ive seen from high rank ha players but yeah the point is high rank doesnt mean you're good.
On the other hand ive played with players in ta who have no rank or low rank but are really amazing much better than the high ranked players i played with in ha. There are people who play high rated gvg with cape trims who have little or no rank and most probably play alot better than ha'ers. I LOL now when i get ranked whereas before it used to piss me off now when some is like noob im r10 i just say AND WHAT? because you have a higher rank you are automatically better? i don't think so.. you were the warrior who shocked me when i was kd and bull striked me when i was standing still and frenzied when rush wasnt charged and got owned by the backbreaker sin? kthxbye.

TBH, the best indicator in HA is see if the person is on your friends list that you've gotten from pugging or someone that friends/guildies can vouch for. I think there used to be threads about people LFG for HA. Don't know if they are still there though.

There are definitely much better indicators, it's just that showing your rank is the easiest.
