Recently I've been playing Dungeon Runners, another NC Soft game, and there are in game advertisements. How would you feel about having ads in GW2? Anet and NC Soft are letting us off easy by not having monthly fees. Guild Wars is a very high quality game, and I think there would be a large player base that would play even if there were monthly fees. So basically; would the presence of in game ads in GW2 bother you to the point of not playing? Or would do you think they would be a acceptable addition to the game to help shave off some of the cost of making/maintaining the game?

I think it would be out of place in a setting like GW2. It works pretty well in city settings (billboards, bus stops etc) where its hardly even noticeable, and even sometimes adds to the environment. But in a medieval themed games with dragons...it just would seem really odd.

Theres adverts in PAIN for ps3, which I don't mind.
But I vote No for them in GW2, would ruin the atmosphere.

Thats not how the ads would be. In Dungeon Runners when your loading screen comes up an ad shows up on your screen and then goes away and you load into the map. It's nothing like billboards.

Ah, I never played the game before so I didn't know . But if it was in loading screens I dunno...I still don't think it would quite match the 'theme' of the game, I guess depending on the product lol. Again, I haven't played DR so I don't know what kind of things they were advertising.

if there was a bar on the side of the screen with ads, i would not give a damn.

so long as it didn't cause lag

If it made more updates of large scale (like SF) avalible then sure. I think seeing a billboard in LA would be really funny.

I'm guessing you're playing the paid version. I tried it few days ago with a free account - there's a bar of ad on top of the screen, which basically pushes everything down by 1.5 inches or so (on my screen). Not particularly fatal to gameplay or whatever but I could not stand it for GW2. It's annoying as hell. The only type of advertisement I wouldn't mind would be something in character selection menu or loading screens.

The free version has the bar, and you it fades from your vision rather quickly when you're playing. I mostly mean the loading screens. If you think about its a huge market for Anet. Tons of people pass through Lions Arch each day. I would vote yes if it meant more free updates. (speaking of which, if a mod wants to add a poll that would be fantabulous)

In-game ads are out of place for Guild Wars. Works ok if you're in a city setting to begin with, but I would hate it in a fantasy setting.

I vote no for ads...maybe if it was on the loading screen, but not all over towns...

They aren't letting us off that easy, they are still making money on the game. But because NCSoft has so much money they don't need to worry about raking in a 100 million every year, the 24 million they made last year works just fine.

9 Dragons has ingame ads, I heard they are annoying but people get used to them. Of course 9dragons isn't a major MMO, so I'd say this isn't the best idea.

Bugger the ads, there are already too many pop culture references in Gw as it is.

Lol....no why would we pay monthly for a game with very little depth compared to other games. Its free for a reason.

Now there is a post that needs quoting for the truth it contains.
