How would you feel about...
the savage nornbear
Recently I've been playing Dungeon Runners, another NC Soft game, and there are in game advertisements. How would you feel about having ads in GW2? Anet and NC Soft are letting us off easy by not having monthly fees. Guild Wars is a very high quality game, and I think there would be a large player base that would play even if there were monthly fees. So basically; would the presence of in game ads in GW2 bother you to the point of not playing? Or would do you think they would be a acceptable addition to the game to help shave off some of the cost of making/maintaining the game?
Chicken of the Seas
I think it would be out of place in a setting like GW2. It works pretty well in city settings (billboards, bus stops etc) where its hardly even noticeable, and even sometimes adds to the environment. But in a medieval themed games with dragons...it just would seem really odd.
Neo Nugget
Theres adverts in PAIN for ps3, which I don't mind.
But I vote No for them in GW2, would ruin the atmosphere.

Ah, I never played the game before so I didn't know . But if it was in loading screens I dunno...I still don't think it would quite match the 'theme' of the game, I guess depending on the product lol. Again, I haven't played DR so I don't know what kind of things they were advertising.
Alex the Great
if there was a bar on the side of the screen with ads, i would not give a damn.
so long as it didn't cause lag

If it made more updates of large scale (like SF) avalible then sure. I think seeing a billboard in LA would be really funny.

Not particularly fatal to gameplay or whatever but I could not stand it for GW2. It's annoying as hell. The only type of advertisement I wouldn't mind would be something in character selection menu or loading screens.

Nope I played the free version.
the savage nornbear
The free version has the bar, and you it fades from your vision rather quickly when you're playing. I mostly mean the loading screens. If you think about its a huge market for Anet. Tons of people pass through Lions Arch each day. I would vote yes if it meant more free updates. (speaking of which, if a mod wants to add a poll that would be fantabulous)

In-game ads are out of place for Guild Wars. Works ok if you're in a city setting to begin with, but I would hate it in a fantasy setting.

Talk about an immersion killer:
"Ok guys lets go...."
{ENTER MISSION}
No thx.
I was gonna do a:
Shiro agrees: "After a hard days ganking nothing refreshes like Coke"
...on PS but I'm way to lazy.

It would bother me b/c i might click the ad instead of the player that needs to be healed..
Nessar
I vote no for ads...maybe if it was on the loading screen, but not all over towns...
wetsparks
They aren't letting us off that easy, they are still making money on the game. But because NCSoft has so much money they don't need to worry about raking in a 100 million every year, the 24 million they made last year works just fine.
Winterclaw
9 Dragons has ingame ads, I heard they are annoying but people get used to them. Of course 9dragons isn't a major MMO, so I'd say this isn't the best idea.

DUDE IT WOULD BE AWEEEESOME Its like I'm wielding an Icy Pepsi Sword of Refreshment and A Built to Last Duralast of Foritude. IT would be tight...Buuttt...i dont think they would do it

Bugger the ads, there are already too many pop culture references in Gw as it is.

It all depends on the frequence of the ads for me.
Alexandra-Sweet
I would remove them with Texmod anyway.
fowlero
Wouldn't mind it at all really.
Especially if it gave the game more content/attention/whatever from the revenue it would generate.

I guess it depends of the ad, really. Text ads don't bother me too much, but I -hate- pop-ups. Integrated to the loading screens wouldn't be SO bad IMO, as long as they kinda... fade into it; noticeable but not aggressive.
Sleeper Service
if gamers accepted adds ingame how long before we would have to pay a fee AND watch adds (not to mention a minimum loading time with said add inserted demanded by the advertisers)
Look at TV, we pay a yearly tax on it AND we get adverts, the logic is no different.
how about we NOT support shit like that.

There are games that advertize FTP but have adds. You can disable them for about $5.00 a month. This is a PTP hiding as a FTP, it is very irritating. Here is another usful tip in games with ads, the ads use your internet explore to display them, since I use firefox, All I needed to do was turn the security setting to max in internet explorer *poof* ads gone.
If we do not say no now, what is next? selling your e-mail account the game is tied to, to spam companies?
As far as GW is concerned, I/We PAID for the game originally. That should cover the cost lets do a little math:
4+ million copies sold (as I am not a anet employee I am unsure if that # included expantions, pretty sure tho, it did not)
If everyone of those copies was lets say $20.00 (some paid more, some less just an average) That is a minnimum of 80 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!
lets divide that down by 4 years, just to be fair as a yearly amount.(even tho we are still in year 4)
Thats is still 20 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!
I do not think that anyone at a-net is in danger of starvation. I also Think they made a truck load of cash. Even if the companies cost was half that number, that is still mad, mad loot.
They have enough of our money without destroying a game with ads. Emersion into a mmorpg is destroyed with them on the screen. Not to mention how many people actually think they won a prize on the internetz? Yes, they do exsist but 90% of gamers know enough about ads to NEVER click on them anyways.
1 of the ads in the game I played was for a Department store. Did the in game ad make me go spend money there. NO. My GF that NEVER played that game did...IT'S A DEPARTMENT STORE.
Where does it end???? Advertizments advertizing a place or product to a gamming community that does not care at all for them or their products is pointless and irritating.
If we backed this can you imagine..... This trade was brought to you by stayfree maxi pads, wings for a dryer you.....
AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

So I guess the general consensus is no, however I'm not sure that I would be outraged if the loading screens were a picture of a tennis shoe as opposed to a volcano. I guess it comes down to how immersed you get into the game. All of my loading times are spent chatting/planning with friends on vent, so maybe I never fully appreciated the ambiance of the loading screen, but I feel that more free updates equals more fun for me, but then they have my money already so who cares...

Dungeon Runners is a huge pile of crap and this is just one of the reasons why.

i see enough ads where and when i don't want to. 30 seconds of the tv show you're watching followed by 5 minutes of commercials (last comic standing, anyone?). pop ups. banners. billboards. keep it out of the fantasy worlds please! lol.
lakatz
No!...............
Bryant Again
ANet would lose my support, like completely, if they did this.

I simply don't buy games with in-game advertising. GW2 would be no exception. Not only do they ruin the atmosphere but they make the company in charge look like greedy a-holes (assuming you already have paid for the game).
Also, Dungeon Runners isn't really free..

I could live with loading screens. I'd prefer we didn't have them, but if we HAD to have them, I wouldn't quit the game, and probably wouldn't even complain too much. Still better than a monthly fee

It is like the designers took a crap and said it was a game. It was fun until you realized it sucked, meaning it was fun for 2 days because it was something "new".

I wouldn't care if they were on the login page or character selection screen and they could still be hidden for screenshots. In-game though, it would be a turn off and someone at Anet would need to be spanked.

Personally I think its a good idea,
ANet are being very generous to make gw2, a next generation MMO, have no monthly subscription.
I think you're all very selfish to say that you wouldn't support ANet if this was implemented.
