Server problems: Post ALL your ongoing Error 040 woes HERE

On Friday and Saturday, there were network problems between the data centers in LA and Germany. The Error 40 is caused when game servers in Europe are unable to connect to the database cache in the US and the routes that server traffic takes between the data centers are congested or have high packet loss. This was affecting players in Europe. We did not have scheduled maintenance during the weekend. We are investigating whether the problem was on the side of our network providers/ISPs. Apparently, City of Heroes experienced similar problems over the weekend as well. The person in charge of our servers is currently meeting with the technical departments involved and will give me an update on this situation as soon as those meetings are over and he has had time to compose a report. I'll update this thread when I have more information.

I posted this on your talk but I may aswell post here in the hope I will get a response about the issue one way or another.

Related to this incident, at around 12.50pm, 25 July 2008 I experienced a bug that won't allow me to join or create a guild.

The error first occurred upon attempting to join a guild where the invite would not allow me to click accept or decline. This happened upon my Monk character in Shing Jea Monastry. After which I disconnected and received several error 040 messages before eventually being able to connect again.

Since this happened I have no guild tag or guild cape and people who have tried to send me invites have reported that it says I am in a guild yet when have seen me in game have also reported that I have no guild tag or cape. The guild status box shows up completely blank.

Also I am not able to create a guild either, getting a message stating there has been a technical error and I am refunded the gold from the guild registrar.

I have attempted several things that others have suggested to see if it was something that I could resolve such as changing districts, creating new characters, deleting my DAT file and re-downloading it, but to no avail.

I flagged PlayNC about it but got little response over it other than it was a known problem and that they were working to try and fix it, but three days later communication from them has ben limited.

Regina can you shed more light as to what exactly has happened here? It's my understanding it has also happened to other players too though for many the problem seems to have remedied itself. I can accept that technical issues happen, however the lack of communication towards the subject from PlayNC is what's more annoying.

The issues causing the network problems are no longer affecting players at this time. The high latency and congestion over the network which players experienced over the weekend took place over approximately two hours, after which the problems cleared up. Technicians are continuing to monitor the network to see whether they crop up again, but at this time they are not reporting any issues. If you are still experiencing problems, please contact Customer Support.

Regarding problems joining or creating guilds, whenever there are communication problems rom or to the guild server, players will experience problems joining or creating guilds. So yes, this is related to the connection problems between the data centers in Europe and the US last weekend.

So I'm guessing, from the information you have kindly given me, the problem is that my account cannot access the guild server for some reason linked to the issues that occurred over the weekend. Do you have any idea when the team will be able to get this fixed? I understand a set date cannot be given but hopefully you can at least give a rough estimate maybe?

I finally got an official response from PlayNC regarding the guild related issues that I and others have been experiencing as of late.

Sorry but thats totally wrong from our perspective look around some of the threads and you will see this problem lasted a lot longer than
approx 2 hours try 10 hours or more for many players including the Tournament

Thanks for your concern but an FYI Lagage thread that even you posted in.
As you can clearly see to many many players it was a lot lot longer than the info provided to you maybe the techs
need to recheck there stats.
