Why did you choose the profession you did?
Tender Wolf
I know many people have various characters/professions, but from what I can tell everyone has a favorite/main character or the first one they ever created. So my question is, why did you go with that particular profession? This could be from your favorite character to the one you play most often to your oldest one.
My oldest, favorite, and main character is, of course, Tender Wolf. She's a ranger and I wanted a ranger since the beginning because my fiance said that is what gets a pet. I love animals so I had to have a pet with me. Over the years, I got used to being a ranger and loving it so much that at once time my whole account was only rangers. But eventually I deleted all but my main and now have one character of each profession (10 profs, 12 char slots so I have 2 rangers and 2 mesmers).
In addition to the pet I love being able to use a bow and fight from a distance because I don't like the up-close battles. But to sum it all up, the reason I chose ranger back in the day was only because it is the only profession where you could have a pet.
What about everyone else?

My fav, is ele. Why? Because after making a sin (first char I ever created) I wanted more dmg, so I of course went with the master of the elements. Plus fire magic sounded really awesome. After having so much fun with "nuking" i couldn't stay away from my ele and now he's my main and I use him for any elite or HM area, just cuz I know he can get the job done
Da Rk Bl Ad E
My first character (warrior) I chose because I always liked getting up close to the enemy and being in the middle of everything :P, my second main (ele) was really only made for farming but I grew to love playing Fire and Earth magic, Fire because I like to blow shit up and see lots of numbers , and earth because I can do reasonable damage / shut down melee / support my team at the same time
Issac
Mines similar to Da Rk Bl Ad E, choose a warrior cuz I love getting up close and fighting through it. Thats just me, my second is a assassin. Same reason love getting up close and in front to fight.
utred
Ele, because she makes fire duh.

I made a Ritualist for my first character. I had a blast with it
Until I finished Factions. Then I suddenly stopped playing with him. All I needed to get him going again really, was a good, fun and slightly challenging build to play.
I made him a pure resto build, was fun for a month or two then.. Meh. But, I'm working on a new one rght now
I choose the Ritualist as my first character because I thought they looked cool, they can heal And do decent damage.
My... 5th or so character was my Warrior, which now is my main and have gotten through all campaigns. I enjoy it much much more than the Ritualist.
I choose a Warrior because I wanted to try something other than casting/ranged classes. When playing through Factions (the starting campaign for most of my chars, including my warrior) I discovered that I find it much more fun to be in the middle of the heat than a bit outside.
So now all my chars in RPG's are some sort of close-combat class
Warrior Imo, is the most fun of all professions
Edit: Although I love warriors in GW. I truly hate the assassins... To weak for my playstyle...

Warrior was my main choice simply because of its natural place of being a critical, basic team member. i love the idea of leading a group and using strong logic to help pin a victory. its not the feeling of "being important" i like so much as the feeling of "hey.. you made this a lot easier by pointing everything out for them.. high five" :P
oh yeah, and i like to smash face.

My first profession was a Warrior, because my friend said that warriors were the easiest to run.
Now I have the warrior, a Monk, a Paragon, a Ritualist, an Ele, and a Ranger. Right now, my fave is a three-way tie between the Paragon, the Ele-a Nuker-and the Ranger...

After reading the description of mesmers in the 2nd booklet with the proph game(if I remember correctly) I knew what class I'm going to play. The more I played the class the more I liked them.
leeky baby
My first was a ranger, which i deleted i then made a warrior.
I have made about 4 PVE warriors only have my main one and the 1st one i made left xD

wanmoke
Ranger. I like doing damage from a distance. I like having a dedicated 20+ second Daze. Wanmoke is my main as far as titles go.
Sarevok Thordin
Warrior: I like being in the face of the enemy.
Shayne Hawke
Ranger, because I'm the kind of sissy that likes to smack things at a distance and then run faster than they can catch me.
JupiterStarWarrior
I actually chose "Mesmer" out of pure ignorance; I got the game, downloaded it, and started to create my character. When I got to choosing a Profession, none of my friends was on to give me instructions, and so I read each description and decided that I wanted to be a Spellcasting class, so that took out two professions (Ranger and Warrior). I didn't want to "manipulate the dead", so out Necromancer. I wasn't skilled or comfortable enough to heal, so that got rid of the Monk. So, it was a toss-up between Mesmer and Elementalist. I was getting in a hurry to play the game, so I chose Mesmer.
I had fun with her ever since. Power to the Mesmers!

lakatz
I picked ranger because I had this fantasy of being one with the earth... and the fauna... and the flora.
BLOODGOAT
Monk because there weren't any.
I'm always the class that's lacking. Like Sorc to sora in D2.

my monk is my first, favorite and main char.
why? i like having the power to refuse to heal ppl i dont like and let them die (that doesnt happen often tho). but yea, im actually not too sure why i like monk so much. i guess bcuz it can be challenging and fun
i now have 12 pve chars (2 eles, 2 rangers, and 1 of each other). monk is still by far my favorite. followed by ele and mesmer.
ele bcuz its fun to make things explode and mes bcuz its easy to annoy ppl with them

Honestly? Tits.
But then as I actually developed knowledge of the game and other classes I realized that I would pick Ritualist out of them any day of the week.
16 max titles and going strong.

cellardweller
Warrior because bodyblocking > PvE
Dallcingi
My oldest = warrior because I thought i could run a palladin and pwn everything in pve!!
then i made a monk a few months later but i dunno exactly why... i guess looking over the party was appealing to me (i did not know about farming or anything so i didnt make a monk just to farm).

FlamingMetroid
Assassin, because they're liek supar kool ninjas that doesn't afraid of anything
Bobby2
Assassin.
I always play 'sneak'.
I always play 'sneak'.
Taurucis
Warrior, because in all honesty it was a bit of a character story thing I had going. I don't regret having my warrior as my main any more, to hell with all you people who think "Warriors have no place in elite missions unless they're Ursan or tanks!"
10 max titles and an Aggressive Rainbow Phoenix on my warrior, which I enjoy taking with me into ABs.

Leonora Windleaf
Ranger, because Rangers are always cool, in any game. I have a tradition in D&D, playing lots of Rangers. (4th edition Rangers rock even more!)
Kyomi Tachibana
Oldest is my elementalist. Favorite/main is my mesmer. I created her at first because I liked the armor, but when I started playing her I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. And doing vanquishes/HM dungeons with 4-7 other mesmers is way fun.
Tyla
Ranger.
BIG DOMAGE FROM RANGE
BIG DOMAGE FROM RANGE
Kusandaa
Necromancer.
Cool looks, very fun to play, versatile, good damage output... I love my necro .

Assassin because I had to become the best at something everyone else sucked so terribly at that they shouldn't even try to do anymore.
Molock
My first character was a warrior because I thought casting spells would be boring and ranger didn't seem cool enough.
My main and favorite character is my elementalist. I originally made him because every single group wanted "nukers". I quickly surpassed my skill level as a warrior and started to really like the profession. Nowadays my favorite element is water, to me there is nothing more amusing in GW.

I chose Mesmer because everything else in the game was a known character type familiar from almost all role playing games and hundreds of fantasy novels.
If mesmer hadn't been in the game I would have gone with my favourite class from all the other games, Ranger because I am at heart a bowman.

the savage nornbear
I picked ranger because they are able manipulate the battlefield and stay alive better than any other profession I have played.
Ritualist comes in close second for teh sex

Chokey
my main is a monk, but she was meant for farming. I guess I like monking since its good to feel wanted in pve (:
crazybanshee
My oldest, most favorite, and main char is an ele. Cause I actually had gw for almost a year before I played it since I was hooked on another online game (not wow) But I would look through the manual once in a while and think I should try this game, and I thought ele sounded cool cause I always like to play that kind of elf or mage character that has elemental based powers, and of course I played ranger secondary which fits in with the elf type thing I usually play.
Arkantos
Warrior. I like owning face and doing big damage.
AidinSwiftarrow
Well....RANGER!!! I love bows and having a pet. I also like being able to deal out conditions, interruptions, and a fair bit of damage!
I'm always a ranger/hunter/archer/anything with bows in all MMO's...but not so much Single Player Action-RPGs
So yeah, that's why I love my ranger!(2 years on aidin and still going strong!)

Ranger: I have good reactions and interrupt well.
Actually I don't really have a PvE main character-I mostly play Ranger/Mesmer in PvP and for PvE I just roll what's needed (wrong way round yeye?)

Favorite all around would be Warrior because of the sheer versatility with various weapons, though I usually run mine with a spear.
Favorite out of sheer fun factor would be mesmer or ele, Mesmer because Echo chaining Ebon Assassin Support with Assassin's Promise is pretty much fastest way to obliterate mobs in PvE.
Ele because of their massive damage output and Ether Renewal.
