Leipzig interview with Izzy

I did a search and found no mention of this on the forum, but if you listen they mention they have plans for new content for GW1. Not a full chapter, but quests and other things.

SUMMARY:
Izzy has worked for 4 years with ArenaNet.
Guild Wars is coded in C++ for the most part.
It's hard for Izzy to figure out how to balance the DPS between Warriors and casters.
Casters are pushed towards a support role.
A new team of about 6-7 people work on GW1 now.
New items, missions, quests are being worked on to be released all the way to early next year.
Graphics rendering is programmed by a self made engine.
No more chapters will be added to Guild Wars 1.
More "explore" will be added to Guild Wars 1. (whatever that means)
It would be "smart" to make areas related to Lyssa, Melandru, and Dwayna but no plans.
Tormented weapons WILL be added to the HoM with the update.
Grinding was implemented to please people who love to grind. They're trying to ease up, but they're not sure.
Shadow Form was returned due to a desire of keeping fun builds for PvE without worry of PvP.
They don't want to split skills into PvE/PvP versions, it's done to prevent certain skills from being uneffective in certain areas.
Smiter's Boon was basically destroyed from PvP. It's too hard to remove a skill from the game due to coding, ridiculous numbers works.
Ursan took forever to be nerfed was due to waiting on the effects it had first.
They're watching CryWay currently.
GvG was reworked to kill each other players, not the NPCs them self.
They're waiting to see if Guild Lord racing is going to still be used as a strategy. If so, things will be changed to make it harder.

Oh boy, once they nerf cryway I wonder how much outroar that will cause. Since it's pretty much tank n spank cryway that can clear out high end areas quickly (almost like ursan except need more knowledge to prevent aggro loss).

They want people to play aggressively, splitting or not.
Me happy.

But that's one cross-campaign quest, there is the Black Moa Chick cross-campaign scavenger hunt, so I'd like to see a few more quests along those lines. They're fun.

Also, you can use the 8 man party to easily vanquish Arid Sea.

A few eye openers. Nice to hear they're still planning to add things to the game.

They probably read like 100's of QQ's about people saying that Guild Wars is dying and that ArenaNet is only working on Guild Wars 2, and that everyone will quit GW and forget about GW2...So that's probably why they going to be making more quests, areas, missions, items, etc., to make people interested in GW1 again.
Bryant Again
Good stuff A few notes:
Ungh. I hope they watch the line with this one.
Yummy, very good to know!

Some remarks:
1) What is wrong with cryway? It's some form of tank 'n spank, if they nerf cryway expect to have something like searing flames way or whatever...
2) New content + explore ( ? ), I just like the sound of that ( as long as they release it in February, earlier then that would be lethal for my exams )
3) I understand what he did to smiter's boon, I always thought that it just had something to do with the fact that removing from the game would be too hard.

The difference with ursan?
Cons:
Less armor, ok but you kill things by groups.
Less health, it's not like you need it.
Pros:
at range
armor ignoring < main difference with SF
AoE
You can copy it.

[QUOTE=FrAnt1c²]Thx for the summary, Lady Raenef
1) What is wrong with cryway? It's some form of tank 'n spank, if they nerf cryway expect to have something like searing flames way or whatever...
Ursan took forever to be nerfed was due to waiting on the effects it had first.
They're watching CryWay currently.
The summary is a little misleading. Someone specifically asked about cryway and he answered the question by also mentioning ursan. He said they let things play out to see if the community takes care of things itself. He said they don't have control over what people are looking for and only make changes if the build becomes the absolute only thing to bring. So he was saying in a sense they watch everything. But they don't like to rapid fire changes so they see if things play themselves out. Listening to it gives you better context. I think many of you are focusing on the details too much, where the developers look at the big picture. It's not about the specifics of how the build works, just if there is some level of variety in the builds people take.

If you listen he says that the "explore" will expand and build upon some of they ideas they started with that will lead up into Guild Wars 2.
(Thats more or less an exact quote lol | starts at 09:00 and ends around 09:18)
To me this sounds similar to the Bonus Content pack thing (which I never purchased so cant remember exact name).

Thanks for the transcription Lady Raenef, very useful.
New missions and stuff? They do love us! *dances*
This at least eases some worries I have.

More content is fun!!! THIS GAME IS FUN!
Absinth187
I haven't kept up with GW2 buzz, so is it possible we might see some Sylvari quests?
Lishy
Glad to hear they will add new content. ANET is such a nice company. For something that lacks monthly fees, they sure are generously updating.
TENAGG FLAMETROLLER IS AMUSED
But I have one complaint:
Leave cryway alone! D:
Ursan promoted grinding, mindless play, and rid of uniqueness in builds.
Cryway may be overpowered, however it is win-win. It requires almost no grind. Keeps flexibility in builds. And adds strategy to the game, as well as promotes PvE mesmers.

Hey, I'd like to clarify something in this thread, specifically bits of Lady Raenef's summary.
There are two people who work full time on GW1. One designer, one programmer. The other four or five people take time away from their work on GW2 to help the two full-time GW1 devs.
With that in mind, the following quote:
...needs to be placed within the contextual knowledge that there are two people working on GW1, and a handful of others who work on GW1 part time. What I am saying is that players should not expect massive amounts of content on the same scale that a team of half a dozen are able to produce. The impression that I'm getting from the responses in this thread is that you're all expecting and hopeful of a level of production that cannot humanly be achieved by two people.

Regina summed up:
Expect a couple new quests of which the rewards will be utterly meaningless and a reskinned item.

1. Note to Izzy: Please keep in mind that cry of pain is the key skill in what is the only indisputably top-level build mesmers have in PvE, AP-AE-CoP. (IMO, Mandragor-In-A-Can builds are disputably top-level.) Perhaps cryway needs a nerf, but please try to keep it something that doesn't ruin mesmer primary builds like this for the lone mesmer.
(Hint, best idea off the top pf my head: Make CoP remove one hex from its target. That imposes a minimal burden on the single memser (have to bring 2 proc hexes instead of one), but makes a coordinated team spike nearly impossible.)
2. Note to Regina: Good to see you posting around here a lot more frequently these days.

Then again, I'd like to see a quest that acts like the Epilogue Quests after Prophecies' end, but found after Factions and EotN.
Domain of Anguish, technically, counts as Nightfall's aftermath.
Factions could involve Shiro'ken and Afflicted joining forces and EotN could introduce quests you can only get if you've put at least one thing in each of the Monuments, but again, have quests that introduce the "dragons" of GW2 without actually giving away anything except lots and lots of assumptions as to what to except... or believe...
