Would you say Double PvP weekends... work?

I like the double rep weekends, that is something you can visually see getting, the double drops stuff is never noticeable.

In fact I would not be surprised if they used the "double drop" weekends when they don't really have the time or the inclination to actually make any changes for said weekend.

because someone has to be online for other people to afk HA ids?

Not to mention every district was full of WHERE IS R15 EMOTE?

I like the double PvP weekends, and from what I have seen they do indeed generate more interest. The only time I play AB is when it's a double weekend.

All guilds in my alliance do non-stop GvG on the double Guild Battle weekends. 10 to 15 minutes for 2.5k faction is always nice. After getting more people to step out of their other GW activities to try GvG, they see how fun it is and continue to play whenever they can.

Double fame weekends also are nice, for the exact reasons Nox mentioned. A few hundred easy fame gets a PvE player his Rank 4, and he realizes getting Rank 8 for the HoM statue is a lot easier than maxing all the EotN reputation titles which don't give you a sexy emote.

Double Arena weekends are great because people can add Gladiator to their list of titles, and Z Keys become quite plentiful.

From what I've seen among my friends, the double PvP weekends is exactly what it takes to get people to try the other activities they haven't done before. Once they experience how much more exciting PvP is than slaying giant wurms, they do it more frequently.

It depends on what you think the point of the weekends are.

I think the weekends are supposed to get more people into doing a certain activity (ie, getting people to start trying out PvP for the double faction/title points, finding out they enjoy it, and then staying around).

I don't think it does that too well though since most people are very goal oriented in this game, rather then playing to have fun. IE, want the z-title? Most people would rather just farm in PvE and buy keys then play PvP and get good enough to participate in MATs.

The double PvP weekends, I do believe, serve their purpose.

As the OP stated, 5+ ID HA districts (I LOL'ed at the AD HA district comment - remember when!), tons upon tons of RA discticts, so many unranked HBers, PvE guilds GvGing. They work! Players that don't normally utilize a certain portion of the game come out of the woodwork (even old GW players coming back for double weekends) to take a crack at whatever is going on. It's great to see!

On the flip side, the negative aspects of PvP show full force at the same time. Rank discrimination (it's a bummer, sorry kids!), guilds getting absolutely owned in GvG, lack of res in RA (wait, that's all the time). It almost makes you feel bad entirely steam-rolling another team during a double weekend, as you know they're sitting on vent (hopefully) and hating every second of what they're doing, and many times, they won't look to get better since quite a few lose interest immediately afterwards.

There are both positive and negative outlooks, but as a whole, yes, I think for certain they serve their purpose. Having actual weekly weekend events was one of the best steps this game has taken.

Yea...their awful purpose of creating a culture of farmers. Kind of like HoM in a way.

double PvP weekends are the worst in RA...every single person who has no business PvP'ing goes in there and makes it unbearable. i simply refuse to try on those weekends

Yes, very much so. Except I always AB/RA, I don't need a double weekend to get interested in those.

This past 2x fame weekend is when I leaped into HA. I had previous HA experience, but not as much as this past event. However, I had the people willing to help out with strategies and things like that (and the patience <3). The event did inspire me to learn more about it, I mean, after playing PvE for 3 years, you really do need something else to do. There's only so many titles you can get on multiple characters... or care to grind...

Now, after having that 2x fame weekend, I have kept up with HA'ing on a random basis. Every other night or so, just to keep it fresh in my mind. Also, to keep in touch, I guess you could say, with the people that I met and hung with over that weekend.

Aren't the PvP titles the hardest ones to max out? When looking at all titles available, of course, across the game as a whole. It took Starcraft how long to get R15? 3 years (Personally, I don't know how long dude has been playing...)? Yeah, so I can see why the 2x weekends come into play. They need someone to max something to show others that it is actually possible. Light at the end of the tunnel, if you will.

These weekends do draw many new people to the scene, but it also gives them more of an opportunity to find an unranked group, if that's what they are seeking.

As far as AB/RA/TA/HB, I don't do much of those, I find the matches boring most of the time. Also, with the HB, I did hear of a lot of /roll'ing going on in there, what's the point!? Grr. GvG I'd like to get more into, and I believe the alliance I'm in has the people to make that happen, for now. ;p

I think it's quite good for generating some HA interest, but so would going to a 6 man team again. The biggest challenge if you go to HA without a team is getting 8 people to stick together for multiple runs.

As far as RA goes, double PvP weekends are pretty nice for glad farming. The average ability goes way down, so your contribution to the team matters that much more (if you don't suck.) Your chances of running into another good player are lower, so it just amounts to noobstomping as usual.

For organized PvP (GvG, HA), I'm not a big fan. Back when they were first introduced it just meant that you'd be facing 6 SFway teams on burning before finding another team, which would be thumpers. My guild would specifically not GvG on double weekends because of the degenerate builds. HA actually was pretty nice on thise weekends because the title farmers would have migrated.

Double AB weekends are quite fun though.

as long as im getting x2 balth faction im happy cuz i get lotz of zkeys. x2 fame weekends r nice and it gets people to HA i know that for a fact. ive been in a few gvg guilds and a few pve guilds any time theres x2fame weekend we always HA all weekend and when the weekend is over it always ends with "that was fun, we need to HA more" so imo it does get more people to pvp and thats always good.

Yes, it works for me. I've been active in most Kurzick oriented bonus weekends because of the extra faction. And I see that during those weekends the mission outposts are very crowded.

HA was crowded because Star just got r15 and people came to see it. I was there, there were barely any groups. Just a huge bunch of people spamming "when does he come" in local.
