Has anyone stopped playing because the lag was so bad?
mazza558
I'm on the verge of stopping. Let me explain my situation...
I get rubberbanding, pauses and error=07s every time I play, getting worse the further I get into a mission. This means I can no longer run people, play PvP, play in PuGs, or complete a mission quicker than in 30 mins. This has been happening for about 6 months now.
- I play on the nearest servers to where I live.
- No other programs have this problem. I don't get lag in any other games online.
- I have a 3mbps connection. It's nothing special, but it's plenty fast enough for everything else.
- I use wireless but no other app has this problem, so there's nothing wrong with it.
- I have no viruses or spyware.
- I don't run anything else that could eat up bandwidth.
- My PC is plenty fast enough for GW.
________
What I'm asking is whether anyone else has had to stop playing regularly because the lag made things unplayable? GW never used to be like this.

I was fine on the double faction reward weekend, but the day after, it was just constantly disconnecting. I thought it was just me until everyone else seemed to reconnect right after me.

I am having no lag at all Idk why other people are complaining about lagging or other lag problems. I live in the USA in the centreal part and I havent experinced any lag except for when I am playing another MMORPG. I have no idea why I am not experincing lag or why other people are experincing lag
Shadowspawn X
Yep, I stopped death leveling my LDoA candidate because of the lag and disconnects over the weekend in addition to the four straight days of thundershowers I experienced. Tried again this morning. Hopefully when I get home tonight the game is still running.

no .. . .... .. . .
Ferret Deathsquad
I had some problems on the double faction reward weekend that I didn't even bother signing back in until it was over. I do get the rubberband treatment every once in awhile.

Recently, the game has been lagging a lot more for me than usual. I'm not going to stop playing altogether, but I am going to play a little less while there are bad lagging problems.

I dont seem to get lag as often these days tho i do make sure several things ..
Only have minimum amount of processes running in gw - yes it makes a difference as compared on 2 identical pcs setup same but 1 was fresh install of windows and other had a lot of programs running - fresh install ran better with barely any lag.
Ram .. make sure you have at least 1gig - windows is memory hungry and wont leave much to gw to use.
Video card - make sure u have up 2 date drivers and a supported card.
And as far as im aware tho never checked you dont neccessarily connect to same server ever if its closest - my wife and i play on home network ( 2 pcs ) and sometimes her server ip is different to mine.
Sometimes she gets lag when i dont tho you`d assume we`d both get lag at same time.
Lag isnt always anets fault , phone line faults/telephone exchanges playing up an so on can give problems or contribute.Phone companies are not really helpfull when you ask if theres any line problems in your area - BT even before managed to change my phone number to a different one without realising and my actual number was making calls to ireland and it took them 2 days to discover what happened and sort it out - they also kindly rang the irish number and appologised and took the blame for any nuisence calls.

I've been having more problems with lag than usual.. but nothing serious enough to annoy me for more than 5 minutes.

It takes 10 minutes to drive to the store. If you have bad traffic, and it takes 20 minutes, do you blame the store?

Yeah...over the last three weeks i've encountered game-breaking lag. I'm not going to say it isn't on my end though because there have been waaayyy too many people who say they have no problems only to find out that yes, it was them all along.
I'm currently on many boards looking at similar problems and in talks with both NCSoft and my ISP...I'll get it figured out but until then, yes, i've stopped playing.

Recently I have been having very bad lag problems with rubberbanding, delayed text, graphic freezes and slow load times, but without disconnects. Last night I counted off 12 seconds before my character finished casting a 1 second cast spell. It's a good thing I'm a mesmer and specced into Fast Casting...
Yes, last night I stopped playing in frustration because of the lag. Doesn't mean that I'm quitting GW or anything extreme like that, just waiting for things to come back to normal.

I rarely have lag issues. But when I do, it becomes unplayable. It is always absolutley no lag, or absolutely unplayable. Never any inbetween for me, lol.
CronkTheImpaler
i have no lag or massive lag as stated above. most of the times its really bad when i log on then mellows. im in the US midwest so im not sure if that even matters. anyways i use wireless which imo sucks arse BIG TIME and its still ok most the time. weather seems a major factor in wireless for me anyways.

Over the last few days, I've had lagspikes of up to 6k-8k ping. They last for approximatley 5-10 minutes at a time and I've literally been rubberbanded back through outpost changes.
Example, I switched from Kodonur to Desolation, noticed it loaded slow, then was in Desolation moving around just fine but with 6k ping. 007'd, relogged, bam I'm back in Kodonur.
It happens maybe once a day and lasts a very short amount of time. Still, not a good thing to have when VQing or doing timed missions.

Lag-free 99% of the time.
Joseph Rejekt
I've not had many lag issues except for during the late night hours here and there. I know its not me because it happens to several in towns i'm in as well as friends at the same time who are in different states and countries.
Computer/Connection lag = When everything is pausing and skipping
Server Lag = El Rubberbando Lag-O
Great way to cut down on computer lag, turn off the most useless feature in Windows... System Restore!
If you keep an eye though, lag issues are usually consistant during certain times of the day.

Check to make sure that nothing is hogging your bandwidth (like Limewire). Rubber banding, pauses, and Err 07's are all caused from a faulty connection with the GW server. I do personally have a hunch that anet has slowed down the gw servers as I remember I used to average 150 ping while playing and now I only average 200 (I have a 10mbps connection and I haven't modified anything in the past couple of years). But aside from that little conspiracy theory, your internet connection is really the only thing I find wrong. A slow/virus infected computer won't cause you to rubber band.

Try defragging. Move the gw.dat file from the C:/Program Files/Guild Wars folder (or whatever it is for you) onto your desktop, delete the one in the folder, and move the one on the desktop back. That should reduce some lag. I almost never get d/c'd. I do get rubberbanding now and then, but it's not too bad.

I have had lag a couple of times when I first started GW but none for a year or more except at Festival time.

I thought I was the only one lagging..my ping is about 7,000ms sometimes...impossible to mezmerize..

i sometimes think about quitting playing interrupter in international districts because its just a nightmare trying to interrupt with a 400~ping average
but it's just too much fun :S so i wont let lag get the better of me

Before my account was hacked, I had no experiences with lag.
I'm getting a new account this Saturday (I hope), so I'm glad I know beforehand that their may be some lag.

Would be interesting to know if those experiencing bad lag are using wireless connections or good old fashioned cable.
I assume wireless would be more prone to interference than the old style.
Who knows what might be operating on similar frequencies anything from ham radio to taxis cabs and emergency services.
I do know a friend in America complaining about radio interference.

Singapore has almost no lag issues, except for the usual 300~ ping. Never had to quit from lag.

Because any lag I ever had was temporary, I only stopped playing temporarily. The lag mostly occurred during special festival events on which the player activity was too much for the ANet servers/network to handle.
For the rest the performance is generally Excellent.

I've had a few sustained periods of time (measured in weeks-months) with serious connection lag/issues - and each time after investigation was able to conclusively prove that it was not ArenaNet's fault. When the "average ping" reported ingame jumped to 52,000 ms and the last ping to 92,000 ms (yep, 92 seconds!), and stayed that way (took my ISP about 5 weeks to get their upstream service provider to fix the internet links out of Australia), yes - I've quit playing for a while because lag was so bad.
In fact, in desperation (it was the GWEN preview weekend) I organised to proxy my connection through a friend's internet connection for a few weeks since their service provider used a different path to get out of the country! Worked well - and was able to use that to prove to my ISP that their international link was buggered. However, the problem was not visible in normal web browsing, any Australian access was fine, and even youtube would work most of the time. So don't discount your ISP/network path to ANet being at fault rather than ANet's servers just because other stuff is working ok.
Normally, I have few problems - it's only really during festival events that lag becomes noticeable - or during scheduled network maintenance.

I stopped playing because I can't log on to the game. :P

lag is a factor of life on the internet....sometimes it there, sometimes not.
I have not stopped playing for more than a day due to lag, it usually clears itself up (unless its some kind of intense problem like the german thing last year or the taiwan one that happened during the holidays)....or I play at times when most people in my area are asleep!

Nope, doesnt have lag at all

yea i very rarely have lag issues.
however, a day before that hurricane hit (not saying that had anything to do with it...i really have no idea), i was experiencing horrific lag while in and around the charr homelands in EOTN. and it was happening to everyone in the outposts i was at, too. rubberbanding, complete freeze, etc. at one point i had all 8 of my skills flashing as if they were being cast simultaneously...
but anyway, like i said, rarely do i have those types of problems.

Normally I don't have a lag problem, but I'm also one that has had more lag than usual lately. Occasionally, it will get so bad to where I can't do anything, then when it gets ok again I'll be dead. And when it's that bad, I'll just take a break for a while, do something else, and check back later.

I had heaps of lag a couple of weeks ago.
A reinstall fixed it and I'm in New Zealand, a few thousand miles away.
