Discarded Mesmer model
Calaval
I was looking at www.guildwars.com using the way back machine and came across this screenshot.
The armor looks great and I guess it was possibly used for a mesmer. I wonder why it was never used for players or even an npc.

Looks more like a prophecies ranger to me..
pamelf
Honestly, looking at it, I'm glad that was never in game...
[Morkai]
Looks similar to EotN ele armors mirite?
Numa Pompilius
The model isn't too great (I don't think that face is in the game), but I like the armor.
EDIT: the screenshot has heavy bloom, so it's probably from EotN.

2004 even?
In the link i see the date 2004/04/09, though there's some random numbers after it so i might be just paranoid.
AAH THE NUMBER 21 IT'S EVERYWHERE!!

I know mesmers have skirts but that is too small even for FoW standards.
Thats most likely a (better) Ele model. One that doesnt stand all awkward, like it's about to fall over but isnt quite making it.

Makes me think of mesmer monument...
At any rate, not that big a loss. Its not a great armor, and its a horrible face.

Not a ranger, the stance is different, female rangers stand with their legs slightly apart. Mesmers stand with them together.
Anyway, it does look like a mes, but a sort of pseudo elementalist costume, theres a couple of ele female armours that are like that (small top with shoulder pads and a skirt.)

I would like the Gladiator Armor to be modified a little. If it looked more like this, I'd put some on my warrior;

They kept the boots. Those are the Theatrical boots.
Winterclaw
I don't think that's an el because her breasts are too small...
Darcy
@Winterclaw - are you using calipers to measure that sort of stuff on the screen?
Definitely a caster - the pose shows that. Weapon users stand with feet apart. Don't know whose idea it is but all wrong for either ele or mesmer -- Not elegant enough for mesmer; not "look at me" enough for an ele.
Sometimes the creative brains take a holiday from reality, like rangers with spikes to catch on things as you try to slip through the undergrowth.

Where's all the beta-people? Come on, tell us about this armor!

Whatever profession, she certainly belongs on a street corner asking passers-by if they want to "party."
Taisayacho
What, a woman with an anorexic waist and a plastic chest?
Not to mention the fact that she's animated?

I found out what it is, and it's quite literally nothing!
If you look at the order of the screenshots in the gallery on that archive, this is the news post that refers to it when it was added to the gallery.

I'd wager this was removed before the big E3 for Everyone event that made a name for this game in 2004, at best it was an elementalist or an npc at the time, mesmers didnt exist back then

I'm more interested in something else in that screenshot.
Notice how long that person's hair is? No character's model has hair that long (probablly due to clipping issues) and its one thing I've wanted for my female characters for a while.

Hawk, there is a ranger's haircut that is almost as long as that (I think it's from NF).
By the look of how she's dressed I think that it would have been a mesmer.
And some skirts are shorter (ie: the hydromancer's skirt).

My two cents. It's not actual knowledge, but based on what we heard in interviews of the past, it can make sense.
On Bloom:
Arenanet said that at some point of development they hired an artist to fake screenshots, which were then given to the programmers who were instructed to make the game look like this. The screenshot might be a result of that process at some point. Besides, if you only need one screenshot it doesn't matter if the game only runs at 3 frames per second. Later they dialed back the bloom and fidelity to get more frames out of peoples computers. To this day there is no option to turn off sprite pop-overs in the distance and a special mod is required to give people in outposts high texture details. So it's a screenshot from a non-release version, big deal.
On long hair:
Guild cape + long hair = clipping issues.
Sure, the cape has its own fair share of those, but imagine how bad it would have been with long, animated hair. Especially since people will see their character all the time and guild capes could not be turned off in the beginning. The long hair had to go.
On the model:
It's the first female model ever made public. It's most likely the first decent one they had. Who cares what it later became. It could have turned into an NSC for all we know.
On the armor
Again, with the release more than one year away, she got what was available at that time. Some (later to be) Mesmer boots, some (later to be) Ele cloths. Even the texture design was not final. But the 3d mesh looks familiar. Funny thing that people would want to have this armor, at least as many would hate on it for being just a reskin. But since it has 3D meshes from multiple classes, this armor would not pass Arenanet's own rule of "being able to id a class at first glance in PvP".

Wasn't in the beta as far as I can remember....probably never made it.

GW screenshots on IGN date back as far as 2003. Look through these, starting from old and going forward. It's pretty cool to take a look at how the game looked two years before most people started playing it. Dev's came from WoW and that's pretty apparent in many of these earlier screens.
Pesky Tundra Giants and their large rocks!
I'm quite certain this link has been posted on this forum in a few other threads as well.

What's with all the slut and street corner cracks? Sometimes I think all the accusations of promiscuity are merely wishful thinking on the part of the accusers. Dream on, boys.
Have you seen what people wear in real life when clubbing? Have you ever been to a beach, for that matter? Gone into an anthropology book to see what indigenous peoples wear even today? This is overly tame, not to mention pretty ugly. But even if it weren't, get this through your heads: the cut of a skirt has much more to do with comfort, climate, culture, and couture than her interest in sex - or in you.
Reconsider your own shame and modesty hangups, and yes, your own sexism. Don't take them out on a cartoon.
