Ladder Manipulation/Farming Champion Points
Shadowmoon
Similar to the syncing in RA thread, what can really be done. Well the closest thing to punishment is the past is the QQ disqualifaction. But from what it sounds like, guilds involved are not interested in the AT, so disqualifying them would be pointless. Then there suggestions for completely changing the enter mission system. I doubt they really want to do this because it been around so long, and everywhere in the game. Plus they dont' have the man power to overhaul it.
Then come banning. Usually the only things that leads to banning are third party hacks and dire effects on the economy. No third party hacks are used in it, and title points have no effect on the economy.

plz explain how abusing the gvg syncing is gaining an advantage over other players. nobody gets beaten and it is just the ppl syncing wit each other to boost their titles. does having a title count as an advantage? does it give a boost to their stats or skills ala eotn? do tell sir.

High-end GvGer's don't even care about champ title. If they need another member, they already know who is legit, or they look for people with references that they know and heard of.

Remove champ points from Ladder matches, Tournament matches only!
Yes, I like this.

I don't see how this is any different from syncing RA or buying fame in HA. I agree that the champ point service is directed towards PvEers who otherwise have no way of getting that title into their HoM.
fenix
So farming it for HoM makes it okay to do now? Nice joke. This should be fixed with the guilds who are doing it deleted.

Hmm, that link ALF71BE supplied was pretty interesting. Given that the cost is 4 zkeys per point I think we now have the definitive argument for giving the champion track it's own emote.
OT: While I don't argue that this type of activity is against the spirit of the game, I can't say that it's detrimental to anyone. Sure, it cheapens the title for everyone who got it legitimately, but that's happened in every other title already anyway. But as Shadowmoon pointed out most people only take it to r3 for the HoM... serious GvGers get well beyond that anyway. So the lower levels of the title that didn't really mean anything to begin with mean even less now. Doesn't seem like that big of a deal.
So you're saying this was the only part of the HoM that the designers intended to be filled without farming? Farm enough gold and you can buy your way to every other thing in there...

Pretty sure when they designed the Champion title, and the HoM, they didn't sit down and think to themselves "this title is pretty easily farmed, lets make it rank 3 to display it".
You're dumb.

Agonized screaming in the community got them to reduce these to manageable levels, but clearly the intent of the designers was for putting something in HoM to be an accomplishment.
fenix
Exactly. It was originally done to reward those who are high ranked, and in the case of Champion, good at GvG. Not to reward those who pay guilds and abuse game flaws.
Yichi
shit players w/ champ title will still be shit players w/ champ title.
This title has long been diminished of any real value when anet decided to lower the champoint range from 1500 to 1200. It was nothing but Champ point pugs from then on...

The introduction of titles to HoM turned the entire game into a grind fest (HA,Allegiance..), and a gold sink (Wisdom, Zrank..). And that includes both PvE and PvP titles. Why should this be any different.
Titles = Epic Phail regardless of what titles are the ones in question. Some just happen to be more of an epic phail than others.

Evidence in favor of this argument: the preview weekend HoM required r12 Hero and r9 of every other PvP title.

There's a thread in ventari's--->services where you can buy your champ title. Presumably the same way.
fenix
This. The only prestigious Champ titles were The Last Pride players who had rank 1-2 from 1500 rating GvGs. Champ title now is pretty terrible.

This isn't an exploit. It's exactly how the system has worked for 3.5 years, and how it was intended on working. If there was 1 district for RA, then syncing wouldn't be possible. This only works because of empty districts. Koreans have done this LITERALLY since release.
Exploits involve abusing a bug/glitch. There is no bug or glitch. It selects the team based on the players who enter at the same time from the same district. If there are less players, then the team will be made up of whoever is there to select. There is no exploit here. |
fenix
Except pumpkin pie, the 'quit before you load therefore not losing rating' has only been discovered recently it seems, and it is a bug with the game.
You're incorrect, and no, you can't use my argument. You're just bitter and can't tell the difference.

It's not that different from HFFF, or any other farming method exploiting the AI or the fact that GW has refreshing instances. So it really shouldn't come as a surprise.
Titles also do not display your status. Your mind legitimizes your actions, not a green textbox below your name. So who cares if they are cheating or not, everybody can have fun anyway. it only gets nasty if people decide to play the game in order to show off.

Since "someone" started deleting my post, I'll finish this off.

I thought:
1. Ladder reset to remove inactive smurf guilds for a while. And do a new ladder reset every... xx months.
2. Champ points for a win in an AT only.
Negative side:
- More farmbuilds in AT to farm champ points.
Positive sides:
- More guilds participating in AT's.
- Less smurfs on ladder.
- Maybe someone maxes Champion rank before GW2. XD

Of course, but thats not the point. The point is that Anet turned this game into a farming game instead of a skill game with the addition of titles and HoM. Nobody gives a crap about skill anymore.
Nude Nira
I don't care, if bad players want to farm champ title and then try to tell me how good they are, I can just make fun of them for still being shitty.
GrimShade
Granted it's sad but so are the Bot's in HFFF, or the Syncer's in RA. They made a mechanic and we found a way to abuse it, isn't that what we do anyways? A ladder reset would be nice to help them have to buy new guilds all over again, and let real players on for a while. Regular ladder resets may limit this.
But fankly the most annoying thing I see is someone who thought they were going to get a match doesn't. It's not like Syncers in RA that pretty much steamroll most non-syned and completely random group. If you are bothered by someone wearing a title, you need spend less attention to it.
Titles in the game are birth control.

FrAnt1c??
There will always be a guy to pay a couple of million gold to a guild to get his champion title... Same goes for people that buy their Fame btw...
lutz
The main point here, I think, is that the syncers are pretty much "exiting before load", and that should be fixed - guilds should lose rating if they do exit before load.

But there IS a limit to how many times you can rated GvG against someone in a 24 hour period, so that would mean they'd need to buy a whole lot of guilds....

But yeah, old news is old. This has been happening pretty commonly since 2-3 double champ weekends ago.
