Partnered: JACT Offers Rewards for Members (US only right now)

So far as I know, the business compliance issue only applies the EU, but there's still the obstacle of expensive shipping anywhere outside US addresses. Since JACT offers free shipping on all prize redemptions, that would cause our costs to sky-rocket. As I said earlier, we're looking at a pay-for-shipping option for those of you in other countries. If that's something you'd be interested in, let me know either here or on the JACT forums. The more support the better!

EDIT: How can I sign up from Europe? I know I won't get any stuff from them, but I'd like to sign up anyway. I need to enter an US zip code I think...

It's not too good to be true. You make around 150 Bux every couple of hours playing, and most items in the store cost 10,000+

It would indeed be something I would be interested in. Naturally when it comes to shipping costs it then remains your customer's choice whether they redeem their points or not, but for me the point is really actually HAVING the choice in the first place.

I just tried it. Was really skeptical at first but it seems legit.

The client is spyware/adware free. I scanned it and found nothing, and no other users have reported problems.

The client is similar to xfire. It has an ingame interface that you can disable which tracks credit earned, etc etc.

The client seems non intrusive, you can have it startup with your system to the task tray and never have to see it. Doesn't use many system resource.

You cannot simply leave your game idle and accumulate hours like xfire. If your are idle in game your status will change to idle in the client. The only way to earn points is to be constantly doing something ingame (mouse movement and keyboard strokes). They have countermeasures against auto clicking/movement programs so using them will get you banned.

The prizes seem overly expensive points wise.

There are alot of prizes. Everything from the hl2 episode pack (eps 1 + 2, hl2: deathmatch) for 9411 minutes of gameplay to high tech computer cases for 131,192 minutes of gameplay.

Shipping is included in the point cost, so the items really are free if you aquire enough credit.

The cart/checkout system is flawless, fill in your mailing address in your profile, and buying anything takes three clicks max and an invoice is sent to your e-mail.

There are a number of raffles for very expensive items that you can constantly participate in for a very small number of points (usually 100).

The mall lacks any type of advanced search or drill down function, so searching for a particular item is a hassle.

You cant buy any guild wars campaign or expansion with points from the mall.

Only about 300 supported games, so not every game will count towards earning points. Most major games (gw, wow, valve games, etc etc) are supported.

The way I see it, its like frequent flier miles. It takes a while to get something nice, but when you get something worth 300 bucks for free you realize how wise of you it was to participate. I think I will continue to run the client and eventually buy something semi-expensive.

I started using JACT this weekend, after i saw it on the forum last week and got a an invite shortly after that. The point accrual is somewhere between 1minute:1BUX and 2:1 BUX. It really depends on what your playing and how your playing. If your farming its somewhere around 4:3 because your constantly moving and sending data to the server. If your vanquishing its around 3:2, if you keep active and kill stuff. If you're chatting in town its like 10-20 points an hour. As well, i'm not positive, but it sometime seems like the rate goes up the longer you play.

Just playing on a weekend you can easily get 500 points, if you still play around 2-3 hours a day. However, at that rate you'll never get anything from the JACT mall. With that you can buy some raffle tickets which they do weekly and often have some very expensive and nice prizes. Also, if you buy 5 tickets you get 1 free, and most raffle tickets are around 100 BUX. This is probably your best chance to get something if your just a casual gamer.

If your more of a hardcore gamer, you can earn about 1000 a weekend at 6-7 hours/day and 100-150/day if play 3-4 hours during the week. At this rate, you could get a bluray movie (20k-30k BUX) in a bout 3 months, a new mouse (40k-50k BUX) in 5-6 months, or a G15 keyboard or some other gaming keyboard in year (70-100k BUX).

The only other thing is that if you find what you want in the store, you better buy it quickly because they only stock usually about 3 or so per item. And if its a good item, it'll sell quick once people find its in stock. Otherwise you'll have to wait till they restock. The G15 for instance, sold out in less than a day. I looked monday it wasn't there. Found it yesterday. Gone by early this morning. So if that happens, just wait till it comes back in stock if its a popular item, or you can re-request it on the forums.

The accrual rate is pretty slow but you can't beat it. I mean a few bluray movie every couple months, or if you can wait a new gaming keyboard once a year. I mean its free. Literally. Just think of it as an extra christmas present.

See, I kind of like the ending, but I understand where you are coming from. Like he's talking about JACT being some kind of joke instead of the guy who threw the mouse at him.

But I also think it is a tad long/slow. I was telling the producer that before I posted - 1:50 is a bit long. Which scene would you cut out to make it shorter?

Thanks for all the feedback.

-juno

edit:// coil, I totally saw that video one day while searching for jact stuff online as well. funny stuff. not sure if it's good or bad to be associated with that video (although we have no idea who made it and it doesn't really have anything to do with jact ).

Hmmm...lets see. I would personally cut out the part where the two guys stare at each other after running over the box and the part where the girl jogging lays on the ground and the camera just sits there while she pulls out the box from under her. You could easily drop 30s from the video.

IMO ideally the video should be:
Guy doing Yardwork
Narrator says her line about earning points for yardwork.
Transition when the guy mows over the box.
Then have the girl jogging.
Narrator says her line about earning points for jogging.
Shorten the scene where shes stares at the guy and then trips. (like 15s long not 35s)
Then transition to the guy in the room just after the trip and her thud on the payment.
Narrators puts a little more emphasis on her lines about 'living in the world where you earn points for PC games' and 'Well you do'. Moreso 'Well you do.' The first line is good.
Then Rest of that room full of boxes scene is good.
Then the Get Jact Scene.

Then you have one with and one without the extra ending of him getting smacked in the face.

You should be able to get this commercial down to around a minute or so long.

If that doesn't make sense. I could rip the youtube and roughly splice together the parts I'm talking about. The words wouldn't quite match up, but you'd get the idea of the rest of the video.

PS - By the way, I did a quick look over on the JACT forums and didn't see anything further about it. Well scratch that - I found a thread from a back in august and july. So not to recent and the video link in that one is private.

Oh ok. I was wondering why there wasn't any talk about it.

A minutes do-able though. The funny ending is worth 25s on its own. If you condense the jogging sequence which is close to the longest part of commercial, you'll be a little over a minute.

Look forward to seeing the final product. Let me know if I can do anything else.

Because of the way it works, there's going to be many ways to get around this, given enough time. They're just not going to be published ;p

Answer: We cannot ship to the US VI unfortunately. : (

However, there is talk of rolling out some features to international gamers as early as Q1 2009... stay tuned!

edit:// Also, for anyone who is still thinking of joining, ask a GWGuru friend who's already a member to send you an invite. We just rolled out our Gamer Holiday Bonus campaign, which tripled the referral rewards through the end of the year.

For getting ads shoved in your face??? How do you figure?

The client has no ads.

The website has a lower sidebar and a small banner for advertising, which blend quite nicely with the webpage layout. No popups either.

And they have pretty much any prize you could want, not too mention you can request a prize to be added. They run everything from entire computer raffles to mouse pads to games/dvds to t-shirts to gaming mice to the g15 keyboard to random boxes of cookies. Not entirely sure what you your looking for, but they provide a good selection of items for a service thats free. Just gotta look for it a little.

The only real thing lacking is a mall search option, which i believe has already been suggested on the JACT forums.

Sooo i don't really see where you're coming from here...

Question for the community organizer guy:

Say I use JACT and I get my rewards fine and dandy because I'm in the U.S. but I have a friend in say, Australia for example who would also like to participate. If I had my own JACT app on my machine for my rewards, could he theoretically install JACT on his machine in Australia and earn points? After he had gotten the points (if at all possible), redeem them for a prize, have the reward sent to me and then I send it to him? Or would this be considered cheating or are the JACT points themselves only available for people in the U.S?

I'm not the community manager, but i'll answer some questions.

Old Man - The legal answer is probably no. You'd have to clarify that with the JACT community manager because they don't even support international membership let alone shipping.

Coney - I dont believe they will let you view the source code. I was skeptic at first too, so I read around the forums and its legit. I know 3 people that personally use it and I have heard no complaints. It pretty low key on the ram usage, and you can even set it to not display in game. But its better you do so you can see your activity and point counter. No ads in game. The only ads you see are on the website so they can help keep it up for free. I have yet to encouter any spyware (spybot search & destory is a GREAT freeware program and hasn't detected anything for the past three months). And I still have all of my game accounts that i play using eamonn active, nothing even detected about keyloggers and etc. And if you still don't believe Inde, idk why. Or don't believe me, then you can register and post more questions on their forum. Or wait until the community manager comes around and posts again.

Butsreally its 100% legit.

Unfortunately you cannot share an account with anyone (one account per person). Doing so may cause your account to be banned. However, once you receive your prize for your own account, you're free to do whatever you want with it, including shipping it to Australia if you so choose!

He did not want to share accounts, only the sending address. He was asking if his Australian friend, after downloading JACT and earning his own points, could use Old Man's U.S. address to send rewards to. Then Old Man would send the rewards on to his Australian friend.

I cannot for the life of me find anywhere on teh site itself or elsewhere...
HOW much "BUX" do we actually get per minute of gaming.

Additionally, its only for PC games right? Since you have to download a program that monitors your gaming time.
But, they still ask about console games, as well as give console games out for prizes...
So whats the deal there?

The rate varies. There were some thread(s) on the JACT forum about this topic, but you'd have to search a little to find them. (gasp)

But the rate varies depending on the type of game you play and how active in game you are (mouse clicks, keyboard stroke, amount of packets constantly sent, etc etc.) They don't give you an exact rate, because they say they constantly make same changes to it. But the general observed rate is 1BUX:1 min to 1BUX:2min usually. It really depends on how active you are in the game. If you afk in town and sell some stuff you won't get as much because the client doesn't register you as active. If you vanquish for an hour you'll usually get pretty close to 50-60 BUX. This is true for all other games I've played. I don't think I've ever reached an exact 1 to 1 ratio. But it gets close. The only game you can earn more on is CSS competition mode for JACT. That can get you 4-5X the normal rate. AKA 4-5BUX:1min is theoretically possible, but thats depends on a lot of factors. You can read more on that on their website.

And yes its PC games only at the moment. But they offer prizes for everything under the sun. Candy, videos, furniture, electronics, you ask for it and they'll try and offer it as a reward for you.

The reason they ask about your console games is because companies pay for information on what gamers play, on what systems, console or PC, how many hours a week, how many games they buy in a month/year, all of that goes into the making/marketing/selling of a game. Companies want to be sure they have a market for their product. If no one plays FPS on the Wii, then a company isn't likely to design it for that. They'll try to put it on the PC, 360 or PS3. Basically they are trading information on their gamers HABITS for prizes for those gamers. Not information about the gamers, about their HABITS. Thats the part most people don't get about JACT.

I'll give my insight to this program as it stands. I had hoped to have received a prize to give my full opinion, but with the delays I am unsure when that will happen. I'm coming up on 8 weeks in 6 days.

Getting anything free for doing stuff you already were going to do is an awesome idea. Especially if their operations model works, and it appears that it does indeed.

The good:

The program that counts up your point accumulation is low resource, and unobtrusive. Moveable to your own desires.

The point accumulation is pretty decent. On a full weekend day of playing I can make 1000-1500 points.

Pretty decent selection of games that it works with. I have not had any issues with supported games. They have all run fine with jact running, and jact has always counted my point accumulation.

The program is virus/spyware free, and all communications with their servers are above board. No personally identifiable information is obtained and sent.

The bad:

While they have a ton of products, my personally desired categories tend to be rather sparse. PC games specifically have only had at most 7 options. When there is an item you want, you better grab it fast because the quantity available is only 3 (As far as I've seen) and will not be there tomorrow probably. Things do restock, but it can be frustrating. Additionally, cheaper items (Sub 10,000) seem to be few and far between.

6-8 week delivery times are quite high. Makes any option for "New" games to not really be much of an option as you want to play them when they are released, not two months later for the most part. Not so bad for older games. Also means using your points to buy a replacement part (New vid card when yours fries) is not an option.

Many sections of the forum are not updated as they should be. Especially the "raffle" section. The end of march had a raffle. 3/20 was the drawing date. However after that date it was still possible to buy tickets for a few days (3-4). Additionally, the "Raffle winners" section of the forum was not updated with any winners. It took a response in another thread to point to another location to learn of winners. There is still no thread in the raffle section pointing to this location.

The ugly:

There are many many posts from users with prize delivery being far longer than the 8 week maximum listed. They currently posted a blog about issues, and delays, and ask for patience. The items *ARE* free, but the delays are a real turn off.

I personally was banned. It was overturned after I emailed them and gave my side of the issue (Kudos to them for fast response to this issue). The biggest problem with this that I have is that the reason for the ban was automated. It appears that multiple long duration gaming sessions can cause you to be flagged/banned. I had a few 14 hour+ days of constant gaming. I know that I am an anomoly with far too much free time, but the ease at which I seemed to reach that threshold has me worried that it will happen again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

All of this being said:

I would still recommend Jact to anyone who does a lot of gaming. Especially those who play GW since it is definitely a supported game. Getting free stuff for playing video games is always a bonus.

If you can get past the shipping delays by ordering things that you don't want *NOW* and are quite willing to get a few months down the line then it will be perfect for you.

If they could increase the quantity and selection in the item mall, and reduce the delivery time for orders placed, I would have almost no issues with jact at all.

I hope that this is a good enough review and some of you will be able to join in the program or at least those who are on the fence would be swayed to a decision.
