Have you ever made a character *just* to have an armor set?

Actually, sorta yeah. I did make a sin after seeing pictures of Vabbian armor in NF screen shots prior to its release (who knew that would be so expensive).
I also though ancient for a dervish looked good and made him as well (mostly because NF was JUST new so its not like anybody had any understanding of what a dervish really did yet).
I don't feel like I'm "forced" to play them. My sin is definately my 2nd or 3rd favorite character (though my ranger is slowly climbing the ranks) and my dervish is a lot of fun to play in certain scrub PvP when I just need to hit things.

I made a mesmer to get Primeval armor, but I never actually got around to finishing Nightfall on her.

So I made the character, but I can't stand playing it enough to get the armor I wanted.

Paragon=Norn Armor
Mesmer=Norn Armor
Necromancer=Elite Luxon (though I do pvp with her once in awhile)
Assassin=Elite Luxon (Bought for ecto farming, but now I rarely use since the nerf)

So, I think thats where most of my money goes >.>

I will admit...yes I did make a character strictly for an armor set. Luckily it turned out to be my favorite charicter. Went with necro for the NF end game armor set. Cant remember the name of it. But its the one that everyone calls the "fish" armor... but i call my angel wings. I also did get the FoW armor for her as well. But only after a lot of time and effort. She has the elite Canthan armor as well, and the Vabbi armor. I got her a set of armor from EOTN to finish off my hall for her, but deleted that armor afterwords. Just did not like the way it colored. Would not have bothered with armor from EOTN at all if I didn't need that 5th set for the HoM.

I made a mesmer on my primary account with full intention to get elite Rogue armor. But that was more to replace the mesmer on my secondary account than for the armor itself.

Yes. I made a female ranger so I could get the 1.5k Kurzick set. I have a male ranger but I hung up his bow long ago. Recently I bought the norn armor for my female ranger.

I am about to make a second warrior (but male this time, my current female war is already spoiled beyond belief) for FoW / Elite Sunspear / 15k Glad.

Yes, my mesmer. Oh, but I also made her to twist the minds of others in PvP so horrifically, they would kill themselves. Female Mesmer FoW armor is so sexy.

I made my Ele just for FoW.

It looks badass.

I made a paragon for regular Sunspear Armor, an I also made a warrior just for regular Templar Armor. Don't play either of them often, although that paragon ended up becoming my survivor character (almost r2).

I never play my monk - I almost never play my warrior.
Looking pretty is enough for these two ...

For the longest of times I kept a ranger - because I loved this set:

I just deleted him because I hated his name. (Keep in mind he was almost 2 years old and used as storage only ...)

Plus I recently remade my necro to be able to pull this off:

Mesmer for FoW,Ranger for Ancient,Dervish for Vabbian,Ele for Stormforged,2nd Ele for Stormforged,Para for Primeval and Sin for Vabbian.
5/7 of those chars either have 20-30 hours playtime over year or so or they're deleted (aka mesmer and ranger and dervish and 1st ele :P).
I didn't touch ele or sin for about 6 months after creation. Now they're kinda my main chars.

Created a female mesmer 2.5 years ago just to buy Obsidian armor. Prettiest and sexiest mule character ever.

I made a dark skinned female ele just to get Elite Sunspear. I didn't think it'd look that great on my air ele, so I created a new one. She ended up being a fire ele and I found I loved fire way more than I'd thought.

would have to say no. but I have made every class ---some have stayed mules (yes my sin), while I have played other mules---my dervish finally got some air time and hope to get her norn, but she was a mule first. Its more like they finally got a decent creation template so I made them (which is why I dont have many males ....and why it took me until nightfall to make a warrior--its a girl!).
