dang, and here i was thinking I was turning 22 soon... hehe. 13 year olds play pvp and pve. They're also known as "n00bs". They're not actually 13, they just act 13. Reason I stick to PvE mainly? I can take henchies into PvE and get no backchat, or "i'm leeter than you!" rubbish. I can try that in PvP, turn off local chat and whispers so that the other team can't talk to me, but I wouldn't stand a chance of living, like I do in PvE

Trying to push forward that I'm wrong and this game wasn't created for PvP at all, that in fact it revolves entirely around PvE and PvP in GW was just thrown together as a last minute thing?

back on topic...

I like PvE and PvP, I am over 13, I am over 20, I am over 25, and I think your guild leader is a TWONK.

I hate it when ppl start in on the extremist/elitist stuff. Anyone who does X is stupid, or anyone who does X is a n00b. It is a matter of preference, not everyone over/under a certain age plays either PvP or PvE. Find another guild that doesn't have a twonk for a leader. I really like that word

I think I do about 95% PvE - 5% PvP. I like the idea of PvP but I don't have it in me to deal with the metagaming. The competition arenas are the only place I get my PvP kicks. 'Enter mission' and kick some behind. Anything above and beyond that level of planning either bores me to tears or rubs me the wrong way. I've put over 1,000 hours into this game and I still have 0 fame, yet I've unlocked practically everything.

The whole guild business leaves me cold as well. I started my own guild just to have a cool cape and to get recruiters off my back. A few RL friends have joined since then so it's really no longer the One Man Army Corps.

nope

just mentioning that the infamous Gaile/Alex team has stated that PVE is at least as important as PVP.

i was noting the landscape that seems to bear out that PVE is at least as important (if not more) than PVP.

i will also allow that the same duo also said PVP had an equal place in their sceme of things.

only noting that according to all the makers of the game it was NOT created as a pvp game with pve tacked on as an afterthought.

I'll be 30 in a few weeks, and I play PvE exclusively as far as Guild Wars goes. PvP is just a giant yawn-fest to me, even the snowball arena had me bored within 5-10 mins. If I want PvP I'll play BF2 or something designed specifically for it. Now, I have nothing against people that enjoy PvP, it just bores the heck outta me. TBH, sometimes PvE bores the heck outta me too. I guess I get bored easily lol.
But then I think of a spot where maybe nobody has farmed in ages (wishful thinking I'm sure lol). I get some guildies together and we trek out to god-knows-where and see what we can find.

That Guild Master is a (fill in descriptive term here)

PvE is the best part of the game for me. My guild wants me to do GvG but sometimes I put myself offline and play while they are doing GvG so I can avoid it.

I want to get into PvP but one thing bothers me.

I do not like the Tinker Toy build a charcter approach to the whole thing. My guild wants me to build all these characters but I find it just wrong that you should just be able to do that. You should be required to play with characters that you have brought through PvE rather than just tweak around making your Spike Ranger uber Spiteful Spirit 55 hit point ultra Monk FOTM build that will be all wrong because you forgot to bring some obscure skill that is supposed to be set at some level and triggered every three seconds right after someone else triggers something else. It all makes me cringe and sounds totally non-fun.

Come with the characters you have, that you earned, with their flaws and their skills. Don't come with some patch-it kit that someone else tells you about.

Hey A-net how about setting up PvP with a real character requirement? No Tinker Toy characters allowed.

I think its pretty clear after seeing the posts in this thread that there are lots of people over 13 that play the game, pvp or pve. The guild leader was apparently a jerk. Add one more post to the Jerk thread.

LouAl,
anyone who does 'X' is a stupid/n00b?...

Ok people let's get this straight! It's not the 13 year olds that you should be stereotyping, it's the 12 year old devilish little bastards. (So I may be 13...)

I hate people who flame you for playing PvE. They always call people who play PvE "PvE n00bs" which is retarded because this a just a freaking game. It was made to creat enjoyment for people, so stop pissing in everyone's Cheerios like ya own the place.

I play both a lot, but imo its PvP that has more kids around, i mean just check international tombs, its like one big singles bar, everyones to 1337 to make a team so all the kids just stand around spamming wolfes.
PvE has its fair amount of kids aswel but without the ego's.
I like to play PvE before 11pm, then PvP after 11pm, seems that all the kids go to bed around 11 so you can get some decent teams.

If I was 13, the top of the line home system would've been a Commodore 64, and I'm not too sure Guild wars would run on that. I'm a traditional RPG type, weaned on SNES and Genesis classics, so I like being the hero who slays the monsters and saves the day. PvE all the way for me.

Lesson: Never listen to what people say. Face to face or in a social gathering when you hear "a pronouncement" on one thing or another, have a selection of verbal noises you can make like "Gosh" "Wow" "Gee" "Never knew that" "Really!" or just chuckle politely, or belch profoundly as seems most appropriate.

I laughed when the person who brought up this "Flame" topic told someone else to not start flaming. That was funny. I myself, play equal hours in PvE and PvP. It's great that they have these 2 different sections. I know all different kinds of people who play guild wars and only play PvE. One of which, is in his mid 20's. I wouldn't say PvE is for 13 year olds.

I think the one who started this thread should ask his Guild Leader to visit GWGuru and check out this thread

Looks like we PvE-fanatics are mostly over 13 (me being over 30 too), most of us have life (not me), most of us even do PvP too (not me).

And what comes to kids (I call kid everyone below 15, I sincerely apologize if any of you younger people find that offensive) I have met quite a bunch that have shown such a maturity I could have said they were about my age.
Of course each one of us have met the Obnoxious Kid, who insists to join a guild, you let him in and he starts asking could you make him an officer. You state no, and he starts asking for money. You say no, again, and he starts calling you all n00bs etc and leaves. That's so common... and spoils the reputation of the majority of kids.

While I was still playing on European servers, I met and teamed up with a group for mission (can't remember which... Frost Gate, I think). Everything went smoothily and we got it done rather quickly. The team didn't break up after it and we had a nice chat there, and I found out that the oldest of the rest of the team was 15. You couldn't really tell it from their speech or their behavior. They assured me not to judge anybody on GW before getting to know them better.

I'm 18 and I play both, the fact that an Rpg type game was even able to integrate two completely different game types is a thumbs up from me. Because sometimes I feel like PvE and sometimes I feel like PvP...and what would I do if their was only PvP and I had not enough guildies on to do tombs or something....rr..read a boo..gah I can't even say it nor do I want to think about it.

Liking PvP, PvE or both depends more on things like personality and what do you want from to gain from your gaming, then age.

for example: If i had a busy day of work (older then 13 obviously) i tend to like doing som eeasy quests. Later i mainly play mission on such a day. I want relaxation so pve for me is the best at that moment. It rewards me with a relaxing slow paced gaming.

Other moments i like the fast short battles and i play pvp. I feel it is more challenging and more energy demanding. The winning is here more the reward for me. A feeling of accomplishment, somewhat more then in PvE

These rewards can be different for everyone ofcourse, but there will be a difference between the two gametypes for most of you i guess.

I am a person who likes both PvP and PvE, depending on my mood. Others like only one of both because they only like the reward (personal, not in-game)

So, to conclude: Whether you like PvE or PvP or both depends on many things but age is not one of them.

When someone makes a comment like that that only 13 year olds play PVE they have a childish attitude to begin with.

The age variations is broad across both lines of play. I'm well over 13 and I play both. I get bored with one I go back to the other. Competition is nice, but, some people drive it into the ground as the only way of life. I fortunately do not. I like to help other people through tough missions like Thirsy River or Thunderhead Keep and the Hell missions. But, on the other hand I will NOT RUN anyone through the game. I don't like runners to Droks and still wish they would lock the south door in Beacons Pearch. At least it will take a lot longer to get to Droks the other way around. And I think if you run the content then you are less than 13 years old!! hehe j/k (Well not really but yes I am) haha

If I didn't read your guild tag I would have thought I met him tonight. I walked into Dunes of Dispair to some level 14 elementalist bashing some warrior telling- nay demanding he be let into the party. "There are only two. Don't lie noob." So I go to the war's defense. "Here take this candy cane shard and be quiet." Of course this made him switch his attention to me (the short mesmer). It didn't take him long to start a pissing contest. "Oh yeah well come on then. Let's GvG." I, calmly, said no. Our guild doesn't GvG. To which he replied "Wow what a bunch of noobs. A noob guild." Just because our guild is a PvE oriented guild, doesn't mean we're noobs. I couldn't believe my eyes. Was this guy really serious? Sadly, he was. He then went on to say that our capes sucked, that my girlfriend (who had just ran me there with her war) was a (because the word he used is censored) "Lady of the Night"[sic] and that we were both noobs, along with our guild and anyone associated with me, the guild, or anyone in the guild. Blew my mind.

It seems to me that the more immature players hang out in PvP, but of course I know that is equally untrue. There are just as many poor players (not skillwise) in PvP as there are in PvE. PvPers are more competitive, so it might show more from time to time, but PvE-ers can be just as snobby.

Some kids are so desparate to be noticed ..NOOB is like a curt word, something they know they are not suppose to do or say, so they say it because they "think" it will get a rise out of someone. If you let the word NOOB bother you then they have won. If you ignore them with no reply then you have won.

Something I've noticed in my 10+ years online is that there is an underlying hostility in many people that normally in everyday life face to face they wouldn't do (or so I would think lol). The internet and the anomity of it allows kids especially to release their barbaric nature and underlying cruelty that they can't release in the everyday real life world because they would get their butts stomped more than likely.

Name calling is as old fashioned as sliced bread. Noob just happens to be the modern day word for jerk or idiot. But, online it's much easier to get away with name calling than it is in the real world. I would bet 99.9% of these people would never say these things to a persons face (especially once they sized them up vs them should it come to fistacuffs or PAIN) lol Take PAIN out of the equation and you have a lot of people releasing their barbaric and cruel underlying nature.

Like this one for example: If I ever find any of you mouths in real life I'm going to stomp you silly (see, because of anomity and no pain I can get away with saying something silly like that). lol You're ALL NOOBS! lol (can't touch me) haha

Yeah my experience is the diametric opposite to the opening poster.

I'm in a small sociable guild - hand picked members, most of us in our 20's and 30's. All of us play for fun and primarily play in PVE as that's where you can have fun

As my guildmate says 'I'm too old to deal with the adrenaline and stress of PVP'

It's also likely that older players are more likely to have jobs, children, lives and not be able to devote the time needed to play and hone their PVP skills.

None of the above is supposed to be insulting to either side of the equation.
I quite understand that people want the high excitement and higher strategic elements of PVP - but being old and creaky, Im not sure I do.

I have played PvP for some time but its just too plain boring in my opinion so to everybody that is a PvP fanatic how the hell can you play that long withouth getting bored?

And to the PvE people do you have 4 PvE characters or 3 PvE characters and only 1 PvP character?

I'm 13(+24) and I only play PVE because that's what I prefer. I tried GW PVP/GVG 3 times to give it a fair shot, didn't like it(3 strikes your out). I've never cared too much for PVP/PKing in the past 15 years of my online gaming experience. It may have something to do with my old school PnP RPG experience I don't know. I just prefer to play the game not other people. My wife of the same age plays mostly PVE but will play PVP/GVG if our guildmates ask and if she's in the mood(Women have to be in moods,LOL) And our kids(5 of them) have just really started GW and so far prefer PVE over PVP(stating PVP is too hectic and stressful). We have nothing against PVP/PVPers or ANET making new PVP content, we just play the way we want to enjoy it.

To answer Undeads latest query, since our oldest son just deleted his PVP character to create a new PVE one, all 12 character slots of our 3 accounts are now PVE.

And the PVPers play PVP because that's what they enjoy. Live and let play man, live and let play.

<------ 14, used to play PvP a bit but now all 4 of my characters are PvE, so apart from perhaps Competition and very rarely Team Arenas, I'm PvE only.

In my opinion, anyone who says bullshit like 'Only 13-year-olds play PvE' is just an idiotic PvP obsessive probably in uni/in their 20s who bought this game to PvP. It saddens me to see things like this that prove how much enmity there is shown by PvP players to PvE players, because they think PvP is the larger part of the game and that Anet focus too much on PvE. Maybe some PvEers would say the same about PvP.
