Who else would have preferred more campaigns as opposed to GW2?
Darmikau
I mean, a second Guild Wars was basically inevitable, but I think we could have gotten one or two more campaigns out before the formula would have had to been changed. Even if it meant waiting more than a year between campaigns, I would have preferred that over GW2. Now when I play I know that my efforts basically turn out to be for nothing, unless Anet allows us to port exactly what we have through HoM, which we know won't happen. At least I have fun doing it, but still, a few more classes, some more elite armors and weapons, a new storyline or two, I'd have much preferred that.
credit
No thanks.
Reason: balance.
Edit: I'd rather see more elite areas/armor/weapons added than entire new campaigns.

Ok, this is a hard question to answer. As credit has mentioned, balance was becoming a HUGE problem for PvP, and the more professions you added the worse it was going to become.
What could have worked would have been to say, hey not every campaign gets +2 new professions, in fact I was hoping they were going to do that. Unfortunately I realised from messages on boards such as this one that many players have a sense of entitlement. It only took Factions for players to expect and demand +2 professions for each new campaign.
Having see some of the concept art for Utopia, I wish we had got that chapter. I really, really do. A lot of it appears to have gone to waste, and I hope that some of it resurfaces in GW2.
Do I wish for more campaigns rather than a new installment? I don't know. I won't know till I see GW2 for what it is.

More skills and greater separation of players isn't exactly how I'd want the game to head.
What Now
Yes, I would prefer another expansion.
More of something that's perfect > turning a team game into a solofest for the PvErs.
They should call it Guild Wars Core, in which all the updates after Proph are null and void and only the true basics and mending warriors are allowed into the new dark depths of Tyria to fight...the mother of the Lich?
Either way :3 it would be perfect...again...just...have to go that route ^_^

What I want is tying up the loose ends in storylines. Not so much new campaigns.
While I do believe Anet would have been wiser - in terms of keeping more people happy with Anet's activity - to finish Utopia and do enough Campaigns/Expansions to finish off the loose ends of Dhuum and Menzies (and having GW2 worked with on a Live Team-sized group until the loose ends were tied up), as said adding more campaigns means more skills (therefore harder balance), instinctive desire for more professions (therefore harder balance), and more separation of players (therefore more solo play).
A new installment leads to a fresh start, and that is always welcomed. However, there are too many things left undone in GW1 with the lore and storyline.
And it is the loose ends that really bug me.
I personally would prefer Utopia then Eye of the North, and some slowly added extra content (Sorrow's Furnace sized updates) that slowly finish up any loose ends that should be closed before going into a brand new enemy - the Ancient Dragons.
Just for reference, some loose ends of GW1's time (wish some GW1-GW2 timeframe):
-What happens with Dhuum
-What happens with Menzies
-What happens with Kormir and the Realm of Torment (does it actually become the Redeemed Realm? Does it stay as a prison? etc)
-What happens with Lazarus the Dire
-Who is the Mysterious Stranger who ordered R.O.X., N.O.X., and P.O.X.
-Do the Tengu survive Usoku's assimilation and anniliation?
-Is Varesh Ossa truly dead? Or is she now a spirit in the Realm of Torment?
-Who is Dragrimmar and Kathandrax (known to be possible old Dwarves, but are they of importance?)
And there are some I'm forgetting I'm sure.
Summary of my rambling:
I would rather have seen Utopia then Eye of the North, along with free Sorrow's Furnace/BMP size updates. No new campaigns or expansions now that GW2 is on it's way.

I'm glad they stopped with the campaigns. The GW population is spread too thin as it is. A new campaign would make matters worse. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing new content in already existing areas, such as explorables or dungeons accessed from existing outposts and new quests.

I might have liked more expansions. A new campaign would probably have to follow the new mold of having a frickton of new skills as well as two new professions. That sounds like another balance rape to me, so no.
Expansions, or even small questy things like M.O.X. are what I would have liked more of. I don't see any pressure in adding new skills, and especially not professions, when many of the skills available aren't used for anything useful.
Edit: oshit. Instead of GW2? No thanks.

I actually would have preferred no new campaigns, but 2 or 3 expansions.
pumpkin pie
i want everything lol more for GW1 and GW2 prefereably, they can think of a way to make crossed game (gw1+gw2) mission/quests.
Xx_Sorin_xX
The game was getting too spread out. It was like playing 3 different games all on one server. There was too much of "ok do all of this in one campaign then repeat 3 more times with different monsters and hench".
That and as others have said: balance. Each new campaign brought many new skills, ones that were overpowered. With so many skills and SO many combinations, it has become impossible to predict every combination that someone might come up with, and this is why Guild Wars has had such balance issues. You can't blame Izzy (fully) because he could only come up with 30000 different combinations and not 30005, the 5 being the most outlandish unbelieve "what the heck those work together?" builds. He doesn't have the time to do that.
So its time for anet to pull it back, and start anew and learn from their mistakes to make a better game. At least, in my opinion.

we already have 2 too many

I would have liked the possibility of future content that added more explorable areas to the continents of Tyria and Cantha or something similiar to the BMP. That's about it.
Fox Reeveheart
They added new content for all three campaigns but no new content for the expansion. I wouldn't mind a nice big free update like sorrow's furnace
Sorrow's furnace is still essentially my favorite free mini expansion, i never liked DoA. is urgoz and the deep considered additions or were they always in factions?
either way they NEED to do something to keep us around to keep our interest in GW2. If we linger away from GW1 then of course there will be less interest to migrate to gw2 later.
Another super dungeon? how about a super huge dungeon thats like 10 levels?
or how about just some of the stuff thats been suggested before, like another new elite core area like a realm for dwayna or melandru or lyssa much like FoW is for balthazar and UW is for Grenth.... though don't make them so evil looking. Just because it's elite doesn't mean it needs black and spikes.

The longer it takes to do something, the better. At least that's my philosophy.
If ANet wanted to do something, create something similar to the Black Moa Chick Scavenger Hunt: get random useless things to get something... less useless...

If they started working on new content, they'd have to get people working on GW2 to create it. That means GW2 is going to take longer to develop. I'd like new content, but I'd like GW2 a lot more.
xDusT II
With each campaign came more content which ANet was increasingly unable to keep balanced. Also the game is starting to become outdated technologically and has numerous ingrained problems which can't be fixed via patches or game updates. It's probably much easier for ANet to start from scratch and get a solid foundation for GW2 down rather than trying to fix all the problems in GW1.
FlamingMetroid
GW2 really only exists because the current GW is way to broken to continue on with, so...
DreamWind
I would have preferred zero expansions, but simply a move to Guild Wars 2. Sort of like Starcraft did it. That way they could have promoted Guild Wars 1 for what it was...a PvP game....while working on Guild Wars 2.
ElinoraNeSangre
I'd much more prefer GW2 over more GW expansions. I think ANet learned a lot and I'm interested in seeing what they apply to it. GW did not turn out precisely how ANet started out trying to do, and I think their reasons are pretty sound for doing it they way they are.
On the other hand, they're going to have a very bored and restless group of players by the time GW2 comes out with how long there is to wait.

I'd have preferred a million more campaigns as long as NONE of them had new classes, new skills or new items.
But GW is dead, and GW2 will suck, so whatever.

If that, if this, if, if and if. (I would've prefered that btw, but unfortunately it's not realistic..at all.)
maraxusofk
Initially i woudla wanted more gw1 content, but at this point im convinced it will be trite, repetitive, and boring. at the same time though, i dont want gw2's supposed no lvl cap. if its a breeze to lvl though, im down.
Gill Halendt
I would have liked a new expansion.
Not getting new content was fine with me when the announcement for a brand new sequel was made. Now I feel like GW2 is mostly vaporware, so I don't see the point in giving up with the current game so soon.

That or just an idiot.
Starcraft had an expansion.
Guild Wars is not "just a PvP game."
Get out of here Baka.
Shadowmoon
What I don't get is people are willing to thinking gw2 will be a good game, when there no information about it anywhere out there. So far I've only heard their vague WoW-clone discriptions. Alot of what i liked about gw sounds to be will be removed in gw2 so i'm holding my excitement for a sequel. Hell i'm not 100% convinced gw2 isn't just vaporware, which may never see the light of day.
Free Runner
I would of preffered Utopia and then Guild Wars 2. I liked Eye of the north but Utopia sounded much more interesting.
upier
The main thing would be to just have some new content.
Or D3.
Or D3.
the Puppeteer
If GW2 is ever going to be released I'll vote for that over GW1 campaign
Zebideedee
More expansions would mean more chance of getting 'God Walking Amongst' without having to make a farmy type character to achieve
I'd like to see them, but theres probably more chance I'll get a playstation 5 this Christmas than any more expansions.
Also, whats with people saying GW's is dead any chance they get? lol @ those people, just lol.

Sniper22
No more GW1 campaigns. It's too spread out and needs to be balanced. A new start will fix these and other problems.
kratimas
Nope, I am ready for something new.
Stolen Souls
Yes and no.
I don't want more campaigns instead of GW2. GW2 is needed. The way I see it GW1 is beyond hope with a few things...balance being the major one. However, I would have rathered to wait for a new chapter (with or without new classes), instead of wasting my money on that failed excuse of an expansion, EotN.

I'm not done with this game. I don't understand why everyone wants to drop it and go straight for the next one.
If the next one had allowed me to carry over characters, then I'd be excited for it. But, as it stands, I won't be buying it unless they fix everything in this game (title for doing quests, weapon upgrade/inscription traders, the list goes on) instead of saving those things for the sequel to entice people into buying it. No thank you.

they could have done both
change the 6month campaign model to 12months and continue giving us new content while also working on gw2

Agree - well, I don't expect them to fix everything. But I do need to see that they can tidy up their present work before I get involved in anything they do in the future. Otherwise I'm not throwing away a character I've put a lot of time into just to start all over again.
Winterclaw
The point is moot, but I think I would have preferred the following:
1. The GWEN campaign should have had the charr beaten back.
2. There was a factions expansion that expanded on the Kurzick-Luxon war.
3. A nightfall expansion where Joker Polo is defeated.
After that then do GW2.

We don't know exact numbers of how many people are playing GW. But when I look at sites like X-Fire it's still played a lot by it's members. It's the daily nr9 most played game.
Where the hell are all those people?
I blame it on a too large world. Too many outposts that people can go too and way too many districts worldwide. In some other games all nationalities are thrown together and it works well from what I saw. But I really won't go into a spanish or italiian district to find people. If all are "forced" to talk english in the european and north american districts you would see more people.
Adding new chapters or add-ons will not solve the problem. People will be spread even more. As soon as they completed the new parts with heroes, they will go back to where they were farming or maybe find a new farming spot. Anyway, even if it shortly boosts the number of people in outposts, most will play with their guildies/friends and some heroes. I wouldn't take stranges along as well since heroes are far better.
The only reason why new chapters would be interesting is the lore... but most of my friends and guildies don't even read the quests logs. So I think Anet releases those lose ends in their series of GW books that build the bidge between GW1 and GW2. Also in other games my friends skip cutscenes, last time we played a game where they couldn't skip them they lost interest in no time and we returned to playing Halo 3...
Most important: the number of skills make it hard to balance, GG PvP. PvE players keep playing the game while most good PvP players left for new games. As a PvP player I see more friends go than stayed. The friendslist becomes infested with PvE junkies over time. Which becomes boring very fast. Without proper balancing in PvP that side of the game dies.
So I don't know but GW might be better of with a fresh start that tells people from the start that PvP is THE most important aspect of what made GW so great. But from what I read on wiki, I believe it's getting closer to become a WoW than GW.

Without the shadow of a doubt GW2 (since I'm among those that haven't done everything there is to do along the 3 campaigns+expansion, I guess I may be among the minority here). I trust Anet's new ideas are going to be much fun and it'll be a new "path", instead of just trying to expand on the old "path". If they can surprise everyone as they did 3 years ago when GW1 was out, it's going to be nice!
