Snowball ATS
Regina Buenaobra
The requirements for the Snowball ATS are the same as for the regular ATS. You need to be in a guild. You need to be in a guild for at least 14 days. You are required to have at least 4 guild members. There is no entry fee. The Snowball tournaments will play like monthly tournaments.
For rewards, you get the standard rewards you get from Snow Arena + Tournament Reward Points. These rewards include: Balthazar faction, Candy Cane Shards, Gamer Points, and Tournament Reward Points.
We got a few questions about why the ATS requirements for the Snowball ATS were not waived. Removing the 14 day membership and 4 member requirement would have required a huge amount of work from our server programmers, and we could not spare those resources. We are aware of your feedback and feelings about it, and the design team is really sorry that the requirements mean that some people will not be able to participate in Snowball ATS.

You just got tomahawked
It would have been nice if we would have known that we have to be in a guild for 14 days more than a day before it. :/

I'm happy and all about winter's day as a whole, however there is just one problem:
At least inform them ahead of time next time something like this is done?
I had to leave my main guild to help out with my friend's guild. And now I can't do the snowball ATS because you guys were being too super-secretive.
Like I said, winter's day as a whole is good. But this inconvenience of the snowball ATS really brings it down. Though I love the addition of the EoTN festive quests and it was about time we got a gentch tonic

People, she came here to explain and apologize for any inconvenience/disability to participate. For the love man, did anyone read her post?
Screw you and your negativism. Thank you for the update knowing that Guru community would do this. If nothing else it saved countless QQ threads about "y cant i play snoball at?!?!?1?!!1//!" Or not. Whatever.
Lishy
It's called criticism, dude ^
Are you saying we shouldn't express our opinions on the matter?
This isn't "LOL GG ANET LOL TROLLING". It's what, we, the playerbase think.

To bad I won't be apart of this. Would have been nice to know a few weeks ago...

i'm glad the usual AT restrictions are in place, but a heads up really should have been given sooner for those not familiar with the AT system. this should be a blast though!

I agree it would have been better to know about this earlier than the day before the event starts, but I'm fine with it.

Yeah, I just left my guild to find one to do Wintersday events with, and they wait until the last possible second to say that? More than a little annoying, ANet. Pretty big fail on your part, I don't care if you're too friggin snowed in to say so.
here to troll

I got something called friendslist...
On the 17th december this also got posted this on the official wiki. It's nice that she attempts to reach more people than just the wiki-readers.

Ahh shut your face, you left for wintersday stuff, ATS isn't the only thing available, though i know alot of people were wanting to do it. If you think you could do any better then A-net, i'd like to see your 3 games and an expansion, and you update and keep everything on track, stuff happens that affects all of us. Life sucks dude, A-net just can't make EVERYTHING perfect, then there wouldn't be a guru forum for all the QQ's and the "WTF WHY NO GW 2 INFOZ!!!!!!one1!!!!one111111111111!!!!"

I think it is a very valid criticism given Regina's explanation that if Anet knew they werent going to do any code editing, than they should have had a statement out at least 14 days prior to the event stating what was necessary so one could play. Maybe some people switched guilds temporarily for a holiday-themed guild name, or switched for the holidays for any reason at all. That's criticism I think Anet could put to good use, in the future, provided they continue to read topics and replies.
That said, yes, thanks to Regina for the explanation and I am sure and apology is better than none and that is appreciated also.

Wintersday events begin at noon Pacific Time (-8 GMT) on Friday, December 19, 2008 and run until noon on January 5, 2009. The Wintersday grand finale will take place on Wintersday itself in Lion's Arch and Kamadan, beginning at 12:01 AM Pacific on Thursday, January 1, 2009, and repeating every three hours until 12:01 AM on Friday, January 2, 2009.
http://www.guildwars.com/events/ingame/wintersday2008/
That's 18 days.

As it requires a guild and is in a mat format, does that mean you will gain/lose rating from doing these??
Yawgmoth
I believe making the ATS support a whole entirely new format was a huge ton of work, far greater than setting different requirements for them. And that changing the requirements wasn't considered at the time it was being implemented, so going back to that and reworking it is what would take too much resources now.

What Im not sure of (maybe coz I havent read it if its available) is that if its an AT format, is it going to be every 8 hours like the normal ATs? Guess I'll find out soon enough
HawkofStorms
Well, that's a real shame. I was really looking forward to the Snowball ATS, and now I won't be participating since my guild reccently split up.
Really, this is just silly. Partcipation in a HOLIDAY themed event where you throw snowballs at other players should not be taken too seriously. Any raging responses are a bit unnecessary.
On the other hand... at the same time, A.net shouldn't have droped the ball on this. This had huge potential to be very popular and a lot of fun. Instead, 90% of the GW player base (ie, those who don't read the forums or the wikis) will probablly not even know about this feature's existance. All previous holiday events and quests were open to everybody (ie, even level 10s could partcipate in most of the holiday quests from the past). Nothing was ever hard or exclusive. It should be open to everybody in the spirit of the season.
And saying it would be too much work for programmers... eh, I'd rather have people do something well or not at all. Half-assing the job by not getting rid of those restrictions (which really, why should they be hard coded into the programming in the first place?) is kinda frustrating and unprofessional.

ah, oh well...my guild doesnt meet the requirements (and heck I am the only active one left....so).....but this may mean that the reg snow ball fights might be doable by us 'noobs' since the 'pros' will all be over in the ats.....
nice idea. thanks for the thought (its that that counts right?)

Why would the 14 day rule be implemented for snowball ATS? Maybe with a 2 week notice this would seem ok but I can't see why not having a 14 day account would be a problem for a snowball match. My guild just formed and not being able to play this as a guild is an upset to me. I see no reason for 14 day accounts for snowball ATS.
Gforce
For everyone who is very sad they cant play: only 4 people need to be in the guild for 14 days so if you just joined a new guild you might still be able to play with them.
??Evan??
Buterfly
Not only will new guilds be left out of the snowball ATs, but I can see old guilds having members that would not be able to play either. Imagine how many pve guilds there are with max 100 members, of which most of the members will not be able to play because half the team needs to be 14 day members, and at least one has to be an officer.
It may be worth the effort to try to fix this limitation seeing as it'll be keeping Most of the gw community from experiencing this festive activity

Nice fail Anet, you could atleast warned a little earlier than 1 day before the event.
Lycan Nibbler
Hmm.. why do I get this premonition that anet might extend this part of Wintersday for an extra week......
My accounts are primarily in my own solo guild, so no time to move out or move others in now... oh well, I'll find something to do ^.^

On the other hand THANX ANET for making it a new years day event I was afraid I might not be back in time for the finale..and I'd been waiting for this all year
<3 Wintersday!!!!!!!!!!
SNOWBALL HERE I COME
ps. too bad about the ATS though..i dont have any "connections" and my guild doesn't even pvp
garethporlest18
Hey just because you guys let rl or inactiveness interfere with your gaming doesn't mean Anet should change it for the rest of the folks. That being said, I've been in my guild for almost a year now and well idk if we'll do this seeing as not many people even like snowball. Weird pve farming types.
hoyce
Like ATS is the only thing we'll be doing this Wintersday, if you can't pvp go farm and do quest...There's tons of work this holiday season.

a question about this tournament: will it have same rules as normal snowball arena, getting presents to your avatar or to eliminate enemy team?
