You may want to watch out for this

I find it odd I don't get those kind of emails. I must not play enough PvP... or I don't have Chaos Gloves...
Either way, I found it the funniest when they asked what campaigns you have.

Of course they did, since they want to farm in Bergen Hot Springs with a Prophecies account.

Those guys already know your email address. They now trying to get your data. Did you ever wonder why you got email for GW and not for WOW for example? I mean it is all fun here but the fact you got such email means that the sender already knows some of your info. I can bet that the email they sent their scam attempt to was the email you created your account with. I would change this address asap....

So if I pull a fast one on you and you fall for it in real life, tough luck?
faraaz
Actually no, as I mentioned earlier...I have 4 email accounts, 3 of these are used for 3 different GW game accounts that I own. The 4th one was used to correspond with Anet support regarding issues I had in the past. I received this junk email on the last one, which isnt connected to any of my game accounts.
So if they had any link to my game details, it was through the Guildwars.com website.

Ok this is part of the email I sent to supportliaison which explains what happened to me a bit better
Now I've been looking at whats been posted on here. My Guru account uses a different email and password,so does my Ncsoft account and I dont have a Wiki account.Like I said my login name is an old email address that hasn't been used for about 2 years now. Now, Xunlai House.I made an account there when it first started, logged in a couple of times and never used it since.I just thought I'd try it but dam, what was my email and password for it! So Thought I'd try my GW details and oh dear it worked This is the only place where I have used the same login details.Yes I know I shouldn't have but at the time I didn't know about peoples accounts being compromised and had completely forgotten about the Xunlai House. |

anyone falling for that e-mail deserves to lose his account

They probably take emails from things like Guild and Fansite Forums.
As I said: "I'm not saying that is right to do that kind of scam, though."
Human beings learn from other's experiences and their own failures.
Since that kind of fake mails are already widely know, they are covered by the "other people's experiences".
So, if anyone fall for it, that means that they needed the 'own failure' to learn, and they deserved it for not listening to others. Like those kids that put their arms out of the bus when you tell them not to.
That doesn't mean that the scammer should not be punished.

They could find someone's email, place it in login for Xunlai Tournament House, and pound away at the password, since I don't think the Xunlai Tournament House has a deterrent for failed attempts, once your account on there has been breached, they could try it as your GW acc login info, I dunno....

At least up to a little while ago (could still be the case, no GW here) it was very possible to try and find out if an account was valid for GW or not.
I bet I can automate this process with some minor problems and I'm hardly a programmer.
Making a new e-mail account might work but isn't true safety.
Just make sure you have a strong password and you should be ok.
It's not that they will attempt countless tries to guess your password, it's easier to wait for the few users who will send their credentials.

But in this email I believe that my account was get banned so I replied my password but then my account is banned help me

And what websites have you provided your email to that knows you play Guild Wars? I doubt this is a random email, as they would not waste time sending this to people who don't have an account to steal. Perhaps it is a problem for a website that you need to notify them about an email going through based on thier site. That, or you are visiting sites that steal accounts, like gold sellers, 'hacks', and bots. I'd look more into WHY you got it than anything else. If they have your email, they may also have your computer infected with a keylogger, spyware, etc.

I have responded to MagmaRed adequately in a previous post, and I have had other posters concur that they have faced similar issues in the past through the official GuildWars.com website.

Sure there is, as I'm sure you all know...
Login to the xunlai house, and then "view source". Email addy, ACCOUNT NAME and password are stored in plain text.
How impossible is it for a rogue trojan like app doing the rounds collecting info like that?

Wow, this is rather bad English to even come close to a "scam" attempt.
I think Guild Wars is a pretty cool guy, eh scams people and doesn't afraid of anything.

A database so good they named it twice.

Whoa! The screenshot isn't working for me, but I just checked this on my PC at work. Logged into my Xunlai account, logged out immediately and less than a minute later I managed to access that source through the temporary internet files folder. Xunlai account e-mail address, Xunlai account password AND GW accountname: all in there, all unencrypted. Scary stuff, especially if you use the same password for both.

I'm glad I use a firewall, with very paranoid monitoring of outgoing connections from my PC. Zonealarm ftw.

you know how your parents told you to never open email from people you dont know this is one of those cases, they, as in the scammer, could of put a keylogger/trojan in your email to get your passwords, real life information like what bank you use and various other things, even your what brand of shoes you look for because everything is stored in your computer. This is an obvious failed attempt at getting your GW stuff but hey you still opened the email. If only "they" were smart enough

Scammers and their shitty english, pure classic.

Just checked the Xunlai thing thats quite weird , it tells you the information directly...good job i use different passwords etc on xunlai account that is totally different
