Grouping Fails?
kamolahy
Last I played GW, I had just played a chunk of the EotN content. Never finished it though.
Now I'm back and I want to see stuff, group, have fun and play the game. However... no one groups. No one. I just wanna run the dungeons. No I don't want a runner. NO i don't wanna sit around and pay someone to do the work for me. I want to PLAY the game... not with heroes, with people.
What happened? Is there some super secret area where people only go to find groups and I don't know about it???
Ugh, if this is the way it is then this game has failed massively. Please someone tell me I'm wrong and just misinformed.

Nonetheless, I'll keep it simple. Not many people play GW as much as you might think anymore. If you want a group of people now, join a guild and hope they're nice enough to come along.
I don't join guilds anymore because I have yet to find one that doesn't kick me out for some dumb reason like always. (Plenty of stories to tell.)
So if you want actual people... my best information to tell you in this: Join a guild and ask... that's about all I can tell you without flaming...

running dungeons is the norm, pugs died a few weeks after eotn came out
with no new content since 2007 things are stale

Aye, guilds would be your best bet to find parties now to do anything with. However, I disagree with StormDragon, there are good guilds and alliances out there that arent riddled with drama, or kick because of "stupid" reasons. It may take you a while to find one tho. I know this because I am in one. But, alas, it is true, the days of finding good PUGs are in the past.

Guild Wars.
H/H > random PUGs, ergo the only people who PUG are those who can't H/H and/or don't have a good guild.

I dont think I've ever seen anyone pugging dungeons post ursan.
You got to be really lucky and find a guild that actually does dungeons and doesnt just spam it in the recruitment message :P

pretty much you need a guild that is still active in those areas you are interested in, which could be harder then finding a pug.

Yeah, sad day. I miss the gold old days.

I do Dungeon with guild+friends everyday, having fun while talking on vent.
but with pugs? ugh.. no just no.

learn t o solo the dungens then have pople pay you to play lol or get a guild

It was expected when all the complaining about ursan pre-nerf was happening. I would suggest just going to another game, because now its only about AI, a few "leet" guilds, and running. Apparently trying to play multiplayer in an MMO is abnormal, thankfully GW2 is going to be open world.

PuG's are pretty harsh most of the time :-/
i would say get yourself into a guild that has a big alliance. That way, if your guild is not running something, another guild in the alliance might be. I've been in big alliances for about 5 months now, and i have yet find times with nothing going on. Always a vanq, dungeon, farm, DoA, UW, or something like that.

...well, some runs were already being done before the Ursan nerf. Now that Ursan's been nerfed, people are being lazy and not wanting to run themselves anywhere or do anything themselves.
I saw one guy sitting in Gunnar's and spamming 'lfr to Sifhalla' despite the fact that it's relatively close by - and in the time he spent spamming lfr, he could probably have gotten there himself. There are enough people like that that runners know they can make money. (At one point I caved and got myself a run because I simply couldn't find any group - and consoled myself with using it to cap.)

buy another 7 account, give it to your friends and play with them. could form your own guild in the mean time.

For runs, go to DOOMLORE SHRINE.
To form groups, LEARN to lead, and NOT to be LEAD. Some people team up because they are lazy and don't want to navigate through a task themselves. If you are the leader, and know WHAT you are doing and WHO should belong to your team, then people will begin to take you more seriously.
Examples:
Bad ways of looking for groups:
1) Anyone wanna do DoA? (while you are at GoA).
2) Can someone plz invite me for mish???? (anywhere)
3) Need 2 monks to go mish!!
Better ways:
1) Cryer R10/LB8 LF DoA HM ( do not try this if you have no idea of DoA )
2) GLF 1 SS, 1 splinter barrage, 2 Nukers, 1 HB and 1 Bonder for Mish+bonus.
Further advice: If you join someone and they ask you to ping, just ping your bar. Listen to the leader's recommendation for skilsl that need to be changed. He/she most likely knows what is needed for increasing survivability. If you think you are better, form your own groups, or give valid and contructive reasons why you think you should retain your bar.

Some people also do it for 'teh lulz' and will most likely wait till you've used your consumables then screw the mission up.
So get a good guild and then type that in Guild chat ^^, or better yet use your guild forum.

lol, get a guild. not to mention, a lot of stuff can be done solo or with two real peeps with heros
MithranArkanere
People is spread.
We need a party search feature that work worldwide, regardless of region, outpost or district.
That way people could find a party to make a mission while making quests.

id just say keep trying, and be prepaired to have 2-5 people and hero fillers
displaying a protector/guardian title might help too...
try to have good heros too, so u can fill in the blanks easily

As you progress through Nightfall, certain quests and missions requires certain heroes. I believe the same is true for parts EotN. This requirement started the move to play purely H/H. Some will tell you that they henched all the way from beginning, but most people in the beginning, played random PuGs or with guild members. Now days, many people are "chasing titles," or farming, or running. They can't be bothered to stop what they are doing to help you do your thing. Also, if the same number of people are playing today as there was 3 years ago, they now have 3 campaigns, 1 expansion, and the bonus pack to choose from. So finding someone in a given area, working on the same thing you are, will not be as easy as in the past.
Now days, a good active guild, with people willing to help a new member catch up, is your best bet to not play alone. Hope you have better luck finding that guild than I did.
Right now, I don't spend much time using PuGs. The reason being, too much lag on my part. I don't want to join a group then lag out during the mission or quest, as I do quite frequently now.
Wish you luck, and hang in there.

GW is essentially a single-player game now. Which is sad, because compared to other 1-player RPGs available for the PC, it fails massively.
Zodiac Meteor
Put it this way, Friends > Guildies > Alliance > PuGs.
PuGs suck or slow, that why no one does it.
People are spread out over 4 campaigns.
Heroes takes the place of PuGs
If you want to do dungeons etc. pm me, Zodiac Ele.

As much as it will pain some of the people who cried insesantly about PvE skills, when Anet nerfed Ursan, they also killed the pug.
DragonRogue
This isnt true in the least. I am in a large PVE guild and alliance that does not care about owning a town or PVP.
Shadowhaze
It is a sad thing. I'd rather pug than h/h because I like playing with people also, but end up just h/h most of the time anyway since no one is around. Sad indeed...
(Almost makes me wish some things were changed so it would be required to play with people. XD )

I'm with the OP on this. EotN is frustrating due to lack of groups. Everyone is either farming or wanting a run. This is my first time through EotN (I've only completed Prophs) and I like to do things for myself, and a good group just makes the experience better, IMO. Oh, and getting a group together to do a dungeon is almost impossible, but when it's happened, it's been a fantastic experience.
I've found that I'm pretty much SoL on groups until the weekends, and then I can find them. I did Jalis' Camp and DD with a great group. And in my experience, when you're doing something with a great group, that's when GW is a blast. Jalis' Camp was about the most fun I've had in GW in a while. Everyone was really in sync.
I am in a guild, and I think it's a good guild, but getting people together for dungeon runs is frustrating. I do dungeons with heros and henchmen but it's almost not worth it because I spend so much time flagging and managing my team. Out in the open, heros and henchmen do fine, it just seems to be in dungeons that they aren't as effective.

Chat with them from time to time, join them when they do something, ask them to join you on stuff.
Maybe you can get them in your guild or maybe their guild is better/more active and you can join theirs.
Besides that, organise things.
Don't ask in guild if someone likes to join you now because they are probably busy. Ask them if they'd like to team up tomorrow evening at 8PM for Frostmaw. Or even Friday evening or in the weekend.
Put it in announcement or ask an officer to put it in announcement. Remind people of it a couple of times, both during the week and earlier on the evening. If you have some people who are interested, you can also ask some friends.
It's much easier to get a team this way than to keep spamming guild chat when you want to do something.

I thought pugs died way b4 eotn atleast for me..

I thought this the other day when; similar to the OP, someone was spamming for a group to do a dungeon. They commented on how no one does them any more and groups don't form (after talking to them a bit, they were actually trying to form the group vs. join one).
I really didn't want to start another Ursan thread or bump an old one and didn't relish the idea of re-hashing old discussions on Ursan. Having said that; now that we're so many "months" after the nerf, there are no longer any PUG's (or very minimal). I know this was discussed at the time how folks were limited to one style of play but it was also argued that this situation (no groups) would end up resulting. I recoginize that skill changes result in another "flavor" such as cryway but the same elitest requirements still apply (i.e. rank/ build/ experience etc). Granted it was mindless but at least folks would party together and everyone was on relatively level ground and could join a group (again less rank discrimination).
To direct a response at the OP - many have said it already. PUG's are tough to find under the best of circumstances anywhere (too spread out, failure rates or bad experiences, speed and organization, lazy etc.) and your best bet is to try and find a guild and hopefully one with a decent sized alliance that will further your chances of getting groups.

You can play but it takes awhile to get a group. Now if A-net gave people a incentive to play together like double drops while in a Human party of 6 or more. End of problem

On a side note its sure fun doing the waking waters mission with 3 warriors 2 monks 2 assasins and Olais set as minion master. With me asking numerous times how are we going to hit a flying target ? no answer How are we going to hit a flying target ? But we gave it a shot anyway. Failed disbanded and looked for another group. It was funnnnnnnnn for once.

Your chances of successful pugging increase if you are polite, don't use 1337 [email protected] and lead the group. Otherwise prepare for a nightmare.

This is an online game not a singleplayer game, a game not real life.Pugs was the original concept of Guildwars Prophecies. This is part of an RPG game to form groups of different proffesions. This game had one of the best formats in this.PVE is dead since they introduced heroes, dead and empty.

I have a proposal for everyone in this thread saying they want to play with other players. I also have a proposal for everyone in the other thread who wants to play their own build and not what PvX Wiki says is the "best" build.
I feel the same way. I play what I want to play and I enjoy playing with other people on Teamspeak/Vent. I want to play dungeons, hard mode and missions, not run them.
I've just started a new guild with a few RL friends. We're called the "Australian Multi-Game Clan" since it's kinda the GW-division of the actual clan. Contrary to what the name suggests, to join, you don't need to be Australian and you don't need to play multiple games. It's strange, I know.
Anyway, I'd like to ask anyone that wants to play (not "run") their own way, with real people, to join the guild I'm helping to run. It's primarily focused on fun, though there will be a number of organised dungeons and such, just to make finding a full group easier.
That's pretty much it, so send me a whisper. IGN is to the left.

yeah, i agree that if you don't act like an idiot you'll find a more successful pug. no promises that you'll actually succeed, but your experience will be better.
