Male Character vs Female Character
ineedtosell
I'm a guy with female characters.
why? because girls sell things better than guys.

Wow, reading back in retrospect that argument is pretty funny xD
Anyways, with the sex-change addition, my most-played is now a girl. Gotta say I've been doing this for most of my RPGs these days that aren't Bioware-made. I just find them inspiring to look at: a dude fully armored in Obsidian in head-to-toe wielding a FDS looks is awesome, true - but a chick decked out in plate all over wielding a big-ass swod? That's just amazingly awesome.

Female with female only chars, male chars look like they walk so slow :P and like said earlier female armors are better in general.....
R_Frost
male here with both female and male characters, usually taking the high end armor(15k) into account when making the character.

I'm a male player with female characters... because if I'm going to spend hours watching the backside of a character run around a digital world, I'd prefer that backside to be a womans backside.
Swahnee
I'm male, my main PvE characters are female..my PvP characters are both male and female
kbealow
Female here with all female characters simply because female characters are better to look at. Not to mention that female armor is way better than male armor IMO.
Espadon
I'm male and have both male and female characters. When people ask me why I play female chars I tell then it's not so much playing as than playing with. Showering attention onto a female character is only natural for guys xD

i AM A MANLY MAN AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHH
NeHoMaR
There are only 3 women playing all male characters, amazing.
I am impressed with this poll, I thought everyboby play both female and male characters.

I know what you mean.
Mind you, I always found something weird about playing 'as a man'. I'm just stubborn enough that I always play as a woman if I can. Whatever the game is. And even acknowlegeing in some games that the female characters (I'm thinking FPS here...) are often just eye candy for the games designers.
Actually, the most amusing part is that almost everyone in-game seems to assume I'm actually a guy. There's just this impression that girls don't play MMOs. Reactions when I've outed myself have been one of the funniest parts of joining a guild.
In hindsight, I must have landed in some really rubbish guilds.

I am a male and I play with both, but it is kind of a 4F:1M char ratio. I guess from playing other games I just feel more comfortable playing a female char, though I don't play them for the 'perv' aspect

LOL @ there's only 14% girls playing this game. It's funny how the genders look equal in a town.
paddymew
I'm male, and I have both male and female characters.
Generally, I make male martial characters and female caster characters (except for my female assassin), since most male casters tend to look too weak for a game where you can get decapitated and still live (Yes, I'm looking at you, Norgu).

Maybe 14% that voted on this pole but does not mean only that much that play the game. Guru is a very SMALL part of players in GW.
Myself I am male but play all female chars all of which are named for my daughter.
Dark Saviour
I'm technically a guy, but I've gotten to where I only play female characters*.
*(My main is actually male as well, but that was because I created it in 2ØØ5 and, at the time, I always tried to make characters that looked similar to me. I really wish I'd made him female now instead, but I'm not paying 1Ø bloody dollars for it)

I'm a female with all female characters ;D Like other people, I think female armor looks better.
T-Strudel
9 Male characters, 1 Female (ranger, but when your previous name was "Owns A Sweet Beard" nobody asks)
Shadowspawn X
I'm male and play all male characters in pve. I'm not into rp with a female avitar, but in pvp I will mix it up a little bit from time to time.

Male.
Across all my 15 accounts, all my characters are female except for 2: a Dervish and a Warrior. You guys can do the math 'cause I'm too lazy. >_>

Im a male player with all male characters. In my opinion, it would be a little... wierd... to role play as a female character. Plus, I don't choose armor based on how "sexy" it is. I choose which armor looks the coolest to me.
jonnieboi05
Call me crazy, but I'd rather look at a girl's ass for hours on end than at a nastey, sweaty ass that belongs to a man.
Broseiden
Haha I play as a guy because it feels weird playing as a chick to me. Plus, can't see a Dervish's ass. I'm more than happy to bring along the ladies of GW though, like Livia and Jora.

Real men make male characters.

However, the way i play this game (which seems to be the way a lot of people play it, if i'm not mistaken) doesn't take into account "acting", or "feeling like i was that character, living his/her life". I play to do missions, grind titles, play PvP (like it was a sport), etc..so the gender of my characters is chosen only from an aesthetic point of view.
In the end, i think that this is a matter of how much someone feels involved with the fantasy lore of the game.

Male.
10 toons, 5 male, 5 female.
Thought I'd mix it up a bit but honestly it doesn't really matter to me. The norn quest chain for Bear Club For Men/Women is actually easier/faster for female toons since you don't have to leave Olafstead to do the quests and get rewards.

Could we get a lock on this ancient thing please.

I don't like the way male necromancers stand. they look like creeper pedophiles. i am also not a fan of male assassins or paragons(nipples on armor, anyone?).
DreamRunner
I find its actually quite humorous to notice how people are trying to justify their actions in picky male or female characters. The only reason, as given in this poll and general comments--is how some people find their characters aesthetically and subjectively pleasing to themselves and what their characters wear and how they look. If this is true, the gender of the character should NOT matter into a persons justified action on this perspective and level. Yet this is not true for many. For instance,
I just want to know, other than for Role-playing (RP) reasons, why does it matter what the gender of the character is that these comments find so distasteful?

[X] Male, with both male and female toons....
Characters I play active atm:
4 Female (Monk, Mesmer, Warrior, Assassin)
2 Male (Ranger, Paragon)
For all those that say male players should play male characters:
My Main = Monk.... When I started I had a male monk. but after ~1 year when Factions came out I saw that female monks (even the tyrians) look so awsome and the male look like crap (IMO!).... so why should i run around with a male one anymore?!
Deleted male, created female... and love it^^
It's all about personal preferences....

War/Rit = Male
Sin/Monk/Mes/Ele/Para/Derv/Nec/Ranger = Female
One of the main reasons is simply that i think females are modelled better, the men look abit weird imo. I used to have a male monk, dervish, ranger and assassin, but there was something about them I just didn't like. It's not really role playing to me as I don't pretend I am my female characters, they're just less weird to look at than most male figures. (Incidentally both of my men are covered up almost entirely).

As for relevancy, this subject will always be relevant because there will always be a large segment of the gaming community who are offended by anyone "pretending" to be a gender that they are not in RL. Their rationale is as wildly divergent as those of us who won't restrict ourselves to one gender or the other. It will never go away.
Mintha Syl
Ok, I must say it: I understood the reason why many people likes to play another gender, but I could never make this concept mine. For me a char is a game rapresentation of mine, it's like I was in the game. And being a male for sure would never appeal me. Sure being a female I like looking at males (well, maybe more in real, I found nothing sexy in a videogame model) but, really, I would never want to "be" a male. And also a find a bit weird playing with someone else using another gender's char. Really, I can't help it. Judge me badly if you want to, but the feeling still remains. Everyone is free to do whatever he/she wants anyway
Lanier
lol... i didnt think i would get responses to my previous post...
Anyway, its not like i can see the "guy's sweaty ass", and the way i see it, that is supposed to be me in game. It is an rpg after all. I don't typically go around portraying myself as a girl.
