What tipped the scales for you guys in removing the fun from the game?
For me the 4 man Dolyack teams when vanquishing Tyria were/are so unfun, I've all but quit GW's, as much as I want the GWAMM title, I also want a game to be fun and not a job. NF = fun to vanq, Factions* = fun to vanq, Tyria = login, sigh, logout. Any monotonous areas of the game made you quit? Interested to hear.
* Another thing left for me to do is vanquish Luxon areas about 10000 times for that title, then when I get Luxon, I get to do the whole thing again for Kurzick, woot, lucky me
So....What now, please don't say PvP, I prefer PvP on games like UT & FPS where skill is relevant!

Seriously the game's almost 4 years old. People are going to get tired of it after a while.
When it comes down to it, there's still a lot of people who do find it fun, but if that doen't include you, go and do something else

I got GWAMM did Luxon & Kurzick, did Legendary VQ (before i got EOTN, and those sexy skills :P ) now i help others do titles made some new chars (yes one is Assa ).I guess it is a bit boring luckily for me i`m in very nice guild so hangin on ventrilo and just buzz around the GW world with buddies makes it kind of bearable.I really hope GW 2 is gonna come out earlier than that grim date of 2011, and that`s about it.
Oh yeah one more thing i keep playing GW this much because i havent seen a decent game in ages, talkin about boring stuff and 3-4 day wonder games every time i finished some of those new "breathtakin" games i`m so happy to get back to GW world !

I will admit that Tyria can be a bear to vanq. There are 4-5 areas I'd consider pretty difficult, including a couple 4-man areas.
Just remember, Tyria wasn't designed with vanquishing (or any other titles) in mind. Wait until you go for legendary guardian and have to find ways to save NPCs who die before you can possibly reach them!
Anyhow, vanquishing Tyria can be done. I did all of the 4-man areas with a triple-necro setup and VERY careful pulling. It also helps to take some way to shut down at least one Dolyak. [skill]Broad Head Arrow[/skill] [skill]Power Block[/skill] and [skill]Signet of Humility[/skill] are all options.
EDIT: Just wanted to mention... If the game isn't fun for you right now, stop playing! The beautiful thing about GW is that it has no monthly fee, so, if you aren't having fun, take a break. I think you'd find that most people who have been playing for extended periods of time have taken several breaks of a month or more. I know I have! You are right, it shouldn't be a job.

The game pretty much topped off when I was done with Vanquisher. Sure, it was hard and aggravating, but after I was done with it, there wasn't anything left for me to do in PvE that I would have wanted to do and would have been challenging. I gained interest again when JQ became active.
And lol @ PvP = no skill.

What 4 man area has stone summit?

Take a break play a new game for awhile. I was playing the Runes of Magic beta but didn't login in for a couple weeks then decided to stop playing it all together because I was to out of the loop. Not to mention while it was fun at the start it got to be to WoW boring..

Nothing's removed the fun from the game for me.
Though there's plenty of things that annoy me. The biggest is that, for some reason, whenever I'm in a mission outpost in Prophecies or early Factions and I'm on my Dervish, I have people trying to invite me to their party (generally they're very low-level so they're just looking for a run), and getting annoyed at me if I don't accept. Seriously, if I'm in a mission outpost on that character, it's because I'm waiting for my friend so we can do the mission. And for some reason people don't like that reason. Yesterday in Sanctum Cay I wanted to yell at everyone to leave me alone and play the game themselves.
(and the weird thing is, it's ONLY my Dervish that this happens with. No one bothers my other characters. Just her.)

The only thing that removed the fun is the obvious - no new content, no more advancement, no more lore. We'll see what happens with the April update, whether or not it adds content.
I have to agree with Hollygen - it's a 4 year old game, that has run its course. Hopefully GW2 will address issues that led to GW's demise (impossible to balance, having to go through the same exact content for all characters, repetitive grind in place of more content).
One tip for VQ'ing the 4 man areas: get a good group of friends who have all day to play, start from Yak's (with 6 ppl), and work your way back, 1 zone at a time.

lack of new contents. probably also because i did everything like 100 times already. i cannot believe i move on, as much as it is the best mmorpg available, surprise factor just not there anymore, and titles ain't that much appealing to me.
I used to be like, woohoo weekend, now even the weekend double bonus thingy isn't appealing anymore.

Pretty much most the people I played w/ leaving and no new content. Although pvp is still fun sometimes, but otherwise its meh.

I don't think he's saying 4 man areas with summit. He means areas with 4 Dolyaks. I'd have to agree, though I can't remember them being that hard when I vanquished it. Had plenty of daze, minions, and all out firepower.
If this thread is just going to turn into a circle jerk for the people that have quit the game, yet still sit around here going LOL PEOPLE PLAYING GW LOL, I vote for an early close :P

What sucked the fun out for me? Titles. Grind. The lack of any decent pug experiences after the Ursan nerfs.

for those who dont play from the start, it can be hard to imagine gw without HM or any kind of titles. Thats is the reason why there is such a big difference between prophecies and the other campains.
Fort Rannik anyone? ^^

As for the OP, what made you think maxing "GWAMM" or w/e is going to be anything else but a mindless grind???
legacyofkain85
for the dolyaks i used 6 x discords, and i had enchant removal and no other form of spellcaster shutdown, point is keep trying u will make it eventually also i found the shiverpeak protector's in deldrimor bowl more anoying than the dolyaks while vanquishing.
Also as i see u are tyring to go for gwamm,so unless u are prepared for some serious grind u should forget about it,it took me about 3 months to max it and about 500-600 hours(that without all the time i grinded for sweets, alchool and party items) and after i got it i just stoped playing so feel free to spend the same time grinding it if u want.

This isn't exactly a PvE vs PvP thread, so drop it. The OP didn't ask for what was better or required more skill.

Sure there've been problems with the game, but above all else I've just played it way too damned much.

Funny how you mention tyria vanquishing, I did all the stone summit areas with h/h on lucky weekend. (Entering ice dome w/ like 50-60 dp from frozen forest and somehow vanquishing it was the highlight of that weekend)And no, i didn't use sabway/discordway or any of that stuff, but if you are using it just bring rip enchants. Personally, I brought 2 monks, one healer (unyielding aura), one smiter, a mes w/ vor, enchant strips, etc and i was the minion master of the team got a prot henchie, 2 wars and the ele. My basic strategy was constant pulling. The trick is to lure the melee away from their healers and then spike them off before their healers can get into healing range. (Anyone who pvps in ra know how effective this trick is against noobie wars).
Next go for the rangers. If you can, somehow find a nice wall to hide behind and let them direct their aggro to you. Don't go for the healers first because their life attunements make them the hardest to kill. They're good at keeping themseles alive, but they fail at keeping the rest of their party alive. It's up to your healers to keep you guys alive while you carry go on the offensive. You will get dp, and you will get lots of it and that is when prot spirit shines.
Personally I think the hardness makes the game more interesting. Sure getting wiped the first time i entered dreadnaught's drift wasn't fun, but the second time i was prepared and it gave me a great sense of accomplishment to crush those summit. Part of it has to do with that nice sense of egotism knowing that I've just beaten the area with hero team builds that I've made myself and not copy paste necro builds.

This. Not so much the Ursan part but the end result of nerfing it to oblivion. Playing with my guildies and alliance mates gets rather boring. Tired of playing with the same people. I want new blood!

I still play but not as often. I got soured of the game not because of the game itself, but because of the effect it had on my life. I was playing it so damn much in 06-07 that college became second-priority and I ended up failing a bunch of classes and dropping out. I got a job, played when I got home, things were alright. I lost my job not because of GW, but that got me started playing even more in between looking for a new job. When I was forced to go back to college this semester, I remembered what it did to me two years ago and decided it wasn't going to do it again. It's made the game boring to me although I still have fun actually playing it. It's a good thing, and I limit my play to about 2-3 hours a week now.

What removed fun? Heroes! When the game turned into a single player game I practically quit PvE. I've vanq'ed maybe 3 or 4 areas only solo+H/H but i found that so extremelly boring that I don't want to ever do that again. But I still find doing that in a team with other people a great fun. It's sooo completely different when done with other players... if only there was a centralized LFG solution, any reasonable way to find other players wanting to do the same part it would be awesome.

Yes, it's in the largest part heroes fault. They completely changed the way most people play this game, effectively turning PvE it into an online single player game. Now even a powerful worldwide LFG system wouldn't save it, as people who wanted multiplayer action quit long ago.

^agree. don't forget the increasing options for solo farming and the increasing rewards for solo farming.
@appo...where do u get 182 outposts and towns?
wiki says there are 96 outposts (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Category:All_outposts)
each district can hold 100 people. i think if each outpost had at least 1 full district, that would be decent enough to pug.
96 outposts x 100 people each = 9,600 people wanting to group. thats not such a huge number to ask for imo, especially when people are saying that gw is still alive and sells 60,000 copies every month.
edit: forgot to factor in euro/int/etc...in that case just triple the number, but i still don't think thats such a huge number to ask for if gw is indeed as "alive" as people claim it to be.

I'm still having fun, given that I've had the game for 3 years, have all three campaigns, have 8 characters, and NONE have finished a single campaign.
Then again, I'm also antisocial in the game unless I'm trading or getting a run, plus the characters who have gotten the farthest in their respective campaigns have hit brick walls (either Ring of Fire, Arborstone, Jennur's Horde, or Nundu Bay).
Plus I have a job and am attending college at the moment.
Seriously, if you're bored, START OVER.
Sell/salvage everything off one character and his/her heroes and create a new one.
Play a profession or a profession combination you've never tried, and no matter how difficult it gets, continue on and enjoy the experience.

- No. Number of people buying the game get divided to large number of outposts. It takes a week of casual playing to finish the game, after which you probably won't be going through random story missions again to help others. Just see for yourself how many people there are in outposts in the middle of nowhere. Those with thousands of hours invested (including me) are definitely minority of community.

Lack of new content. Title updates and storage updates are all fun and all, but it doesn't add anything to the game for me at this stage.
