Excited about Zaishen Challenge Quests
Brewmaster
I like the idea of a little more structure in game right now. Daily quests where I might actually have something to do that other people are doing? Fine by me, as long as it's implemented right. Also, even if the explorable quests do take you out somewhere to kill a random boss for x amount of gold or experience, it's still better than sitting in spamadan. Hell, even if the quest of the day was to return with shrubbery of varying heights, I'd do it just to have the slightest bit of new content.

^i don't know...to me it kinda feels like its just going to be a chore...just like when they implemented most of the grind titles.

The best thing about these quests is they now decide for us what we should do each day.
How often do you log on and just don't know what to do? You've done everything multiple times. You've got bored guildmates who just get on to use GW as a pretty chat room. I think there are a lot of people out there looking for a reason to group up again, or even a reason to go back and play certain areas.
I'm excited because I know that each day will be something new, and that if I decide to do the daily, that there will be many other people there doing it as well, which means if I need help or if I want to help someone, then I know they'll be there.
When they introduced Sorrow's Furnace, I was there everyday for the first few months. And the best part was that so was everyone else.
Granted, I hate PUGs. I probably won't be joining groups for these quests, unless its with my guild or alliance, or I'm having a really hard time completing it.

I think it'll get boring in a week. People will go back to farming ecto and logging in to get their free zaishen keys and this will be yet another idea to make content more like slave labor compared to the game's normal crazy stupid money fountains.

I wonder if zcoins can be used to buy zkeys.

It could be a lot of grind, or it could be incredibly fun. Gotta give them a chance and see what gets released before criticizing it.

I don't think you really understand what the Zaishen quests are going to be.
* Mission quests send you to replay storyline missions from each campaign. * Bounty quests dispatch you to kill boss monsters in dungeons, veteran missions, and explorable areas. * PvP quests challenge you to win battles in various PvP types. Storyline missions, bosses in various missions and dungeons, and PvP wins. There is nothing in there about repeating one-shot quests. |
If that isn't included - then it's not good.

to me this is not a good thing...i already know exactly what i want from the game, and to me things like titles and daily quests are an annoyance, because they make me feel like i should be doing those things instead of what i want to do because they offer better rewards.
it is not a suitable substitute for new content imo
meh...people need direction i guess

I say, make it worth our while. Help alleviate some of the title grind by mixing it up for us. Say today's "Quest" go vanquish area X. Tomorrow, get masters on some random mission.
Help bounce around some of the achievements that help us fulfill the GRINDAGE that guild wars is.
My biggest problem with doing something in Guild Wars is sticking with it. I barely made it through legendary skill hunter and that isn't that long of a grind compared to others.
Make the quests reward though so people just don't do them at all.
if: You have to defeat a mission in HM, reward = 1 zcoin. 1zcoin = 1zkey means people will at least attempt. If 5 zcoins = 1 zkey, no one will touch it.

What I fear is that experienced players will shout at/insult less experienced ones because of their bad builds, aggro management or whatever. On the other hand, it could also turn out to be the perfect way for the experienced players to teach one thing or two to the newer players.

@ OP
These bounty quests would be something to do for when I am really really bored. And I guess the 'Win a certain type of PvP' is a good way to get even more money without any extra trouble.
Fun.

Rewards will depend on what you do.
You can't expect to the the same rewards by killing Rotscale or Maw the Mountain Heart than killing Bonetti or Verata.
Crystal Desert quests are quite harder than Ascalon quests too (excepting the dopplenganger thing, that guy is a joke)
So the logical thing to do is giving different rewards for doing different quests and missions.

For those of us who enjoy pugging, this sounds like a nice addition.
Hopefully the rewards will compare favorably with the XTH.

The big questions are going to be:
1. Are the cash/loot rewards good enough to lure people away from farming/600-smiting-dungeon-running?
and
2. Are the title-point rewards good enough to lure people away from title grinding?"
The closer this comes to an unambiguous "yes" on both questions, the more popular it will be.
I agree. That seems like the obvious meaning of "veteran missions."
The thing that worries me is the bit about Kanaxai. Even if these quests are popular enough to solve the "the deep is empty" problem, we're still left with the "the deep takes too damn long" problem and the "all the people drawn to the deep because of the quest suck too much to form a successful PuG" problem. My hope is that most of the quests are a lot bit shorter and a little bit easier.

Elite Area's, like FoW, UW, Deep and Urgoz. As Linsey already said there will be a quest involving Kanaxai.

No, no. We get EXTRA rewards.
There's something else. Since more people would go there, there would be more variety in pugs.
Not just the classic "Do this for me and when it's done I'll leave to bother in some other outpost" but also the "Let's do do this for fun" guys.

GW hasn't had new content in forever and won't see any in the future. This new system is much better than the PvE alternatives (solo farming, group farming the same spot over and over, or title hunting with H/H).
Sounds like there will be incentive for players to try out PvP as well, so we should see an infusion of new blood into PvP, which many have pointed out is sorely lacking.

In essence this is a good way to get seasoned players to start playing missions and things again. Probably good for new players who need a hand. And rather than the newbie needing to pay for the help in a mission, Anet already offers a reward.
But, in the end, it's only going to work if the rewards are interesting enough. Don't really care enough about z-keys to start doing all kinds of missions over again.
So, I am not excited about this yet, I will wait to see what the rewards are and then I'll decide if I'll be excited about it. In the end this is a content update but the actual amount of new content is minimal for as far as I can see now. But I will let Anet surprise me...next week I guess.

In addition: On the official Wiki under "Charmable Animals" it states that Z-Coins will/can unlock charmable animals. As far as Z-Rewards go.

Hey, if it allows us to pug without having to constantly worry about class discrimination, I'm all for it then. I guess it's up to the community to step up and make this work the way Linsey & Co. hope it will.

The only way I would ever do this if the rewards were worth it. Why would i want unneeded XP + 1.5k gold when I could just get that by keg farming or something.

Getting extra bonuses for completing PvP matches seems pretty cool though, as I play most PvP types almost every day. I don't hope they make the PvE quests like "do this mission in HM" or something, cause there will be too much failing if they want some of thw 'not-so-good' PvE players to attempt that, so they should just stick to NM imo. Oh, and I've always thought that there should be a title for completed quests, cause my almost 4 year old Elementalist has a log full of them but when I look at the rewards I just go "eww.." so making a quest the "Quest of the Day" would seem kinda cool, as quite a few of prophecies quests are quite fun.

hmmm lets use some reason: Zaishen, its connected to PvP. Wich means that you have to do it in an pvp manner. Wouldnt it be nice if you want the quest reward you have to do it without consumables, pve skills and heroes or henchman??? In this way you give it a true meaning of Zaishen.
Arduin
Heroes are PvP too.

I like the idea of having these new quests, new "hunts" to do, but they change every day, so ultimately, I'll miss out on most of them, as opposed to being able to pick up a quest from an NPC, and having it in your log untill you decide to do it.
We will see I guess. But still, new stuff is always cool.
I've sold all my Z-keys, in case these quests form a new way to gain Z-keys, and prices will plummet :P
Now to start buying sweets for my title
