Zaishen Menagerie
BrettM
Yes. One of my ranger's heroes has the Black Moa, since my ranger didn't want to give up his authentic Green Hills Strider. But hero pets don't unlock statues in the HoM. Now he will be able to put Samo in the Menagerie for a bit while getting the Black Moa for the statue. It's fine if I have to send him back to Echovald, but he also wants one from the Menagerie to level to dire to replace the hero's pet. (The terrifying Black Moa looks rather unimpressive ... puny, even ... standing with the other L20 moas on the B.I.R.D. team, which are all dire or hearty. Margrid is demanding parity with Jin and Pyre, and she's a hard lady to refuse.) I'm hoping I can kill two moas with one stone by just charming one from the Menagerie.
MithranArkanere
Wait... how will we unlock ax tier for pets that appear only as Elder like the Black Moa?

Any L20 evolution unlocks all evolutions on L15, so all you need to do is to pick up L15 dire or hearty moa at Menagerie and level them to 20.

however, according to the Wiki, i have this wrong:
Notes
- Tamed Black Moas are always level 20 and have elder status.
- Whenever you take a Black Moa Bird to the entrance of the Sunspear Great Hall, Nehdukah and his friends there will run away. The reason can be seen in the dialogue for the quest Hog Hunt. This does not seem to apply for hero pets.
- The Black Moa can be displayed on the "Fellowship" monument in the Hall of Monuments.
- There is no Black Moa miniature, but there is a Black Moa Chick.
- There is currently no way to obtain a Dire or Hearty black moa, however the addition of the Zaishen Menagerie will change this.

Hence, you can relevel your elite pet to evolution of your choice

Prophecies: Moas, wolves, stalkers, warthogs, and black bears
Factions: Cranes and tigers
Nightfall: Flamingos, crocodiles, and warthogs
EotN: Polar bears, mountain eagles (the only pets near Boreal and the Eye)
That looks like a pretty good selection, though perhaps they'll throw in some other popular or common choices, such as lions or black wolves, and maybe some uncommon choices for variety, such as dune lizards.
Now, if ANet did something surprising, like adding a new Golden Moa skin, I'd buy this thing in a heartbeat.
duckboy
golden moa = baby chicken/duck
tho tbh wouldn't suprise me if they did do somethin like that to get ppl interested in buying it.

A Blue Moa, then, if you prefer.
Take a regular moa and change the hues from red/salmon to a nice parrot blue. Or a black dune lizard with red eyes. Or some other easy re-skin/re-color job on an existing animal model. It would be a great promotional tool! "Unique pet(s), available ONLY from the Zaishen Menagerie when unlocked by the Pet Unlock Pack!"
A simple idea (which is likely more complicated to implement than it sounds) that would probably boost sales quite a bit.

If you want hearty, just take the pet along during regular play. Don't raise your BM attribute and take no skills but Comfort and Charm. It's fastest to do something in HM, such as vanquishes.
If you want dire, use the 10 Snow Wurms outside Boreal in HM. Take a monk hero (12 prot, 12 smite) set to Avoid Combat and have the hero bond the pet (Life Barrier, Life Bond, and Succor), as well as maintaining Strength of Honor on the pet. You should be at 12 Beast Mastery and have a full bar of pet buffs and attacks, plus Charm and Comfort. Let the pet kill the wurms. Do not assist in any way with wand or other weapon. At low levels, you will have to kill 10-15 wurms per level. As the pet's level increases, you will need to kill more. (Right now I'm leveling a dire warthog. It's at level 14 aggressive, and it takes 4+ runs to make a new level. But, the runs get quicker as the pet is able to do more damage.)
I've heard that another option for dire is to sic the pet on the Master of Healing on Nameless Isle. Go afk for a few hours and come back to find it leveled up. I haven't tried it, so I can't comment on the speed.
Megas XLR
Just kill some dummies in the Nameless Isle with your pet for about 30 minutes to an hour and then go Wurm leveling. That'll make him Dire.
MithranArkanere
Every single pet I trained without points in Beast Mastery got to Hearty.
So Junundu are fine if all you want is to train it without spending points in Beast Mastery.
When I want dire, I get a build with 2..3 pets attacks and only pet skills.
So far never failed.
But getting Elder is REALLY hard for me.

Ranger is coming out of retirement to finally get a Raven instead of his pet spider. And yes, I'm going to be going about all campaigns to cap and train by hand every beast there is. I love this new update

Anyone else not able to retrieve their Rainbow Phoenix once it's been added?
MisterB
TexMod. Seriously. There are Pandas and Polar Bear mods for the Black Bear, a Yellow Chocobo for the White Moa, black and white for the Snow Wolf, a Stalking Nightmare(Jet black with red eyes) for the Dune Lizard, etc. It's not hard to mod yourself if you only are changing the color.
This place allows you to unlock Rainbow Phoenix without grinding GWAMM. The Zaishen NPC will capture it for you for a small fee. A tiny one. Minsicule, really. OK, make that ginormous.

Where is the love for the Zaishen Managerie? This place is gorgeous and you can tell it was well thought out. If you haven't already, I highly recommend you take a stroll around it.

Wow, they finally made Moss Spiders charmable. (still can't charm em at Pre though)
Nice Job Anet :>

All nice and stuff, but I don't use pets on my main or heroes, and since we don't get a title for it it's quite a waste of time for me.
English Warrior
I agree it is a fantastic place, also has any1 else noticed the resolution has got better?
headlesshobbs
The area already perked my interest in getting pets now that I've seen the place. Not being able to keep certain ones after trying to charm a new one really turned me off.
thelessa
How/where do you charm the Moss Spiders?
StormX
Er, so if I get this right, once you release a pet, the only way to get it back it to recharm one of the same species from the menagerie? >< I was hoping I would see my old pet with his original name running around in the menagerie but all I see are lvl 5s... what gives?

What a wonderful thing ANet has created.
If you have a Black Moa or a White Tiger, be sure to tour the island and find them after you've added them to the Menagerie. Adorable! (If you're having trouble, talk to one of the Zaishen Handlers, who will tell you roughly where to look for a particular species.)
The NPCs, particularly the Naturalist and the Training Captain, have some interesting things to say. Damage types change on moas depending on evolution? (And it seems the White Moa is different than the regular in that regard.)
I'm rather surprised that the Training Captain is able to show you level 20 Aggressive and Playful animals, since there isn't any way to keep an animal in those evolutions by training them yourself. Or there wasn't. Perhaps that's changed?
