Zaishen Menagerie

It should change every time you rezone i think, some times there are just more of some though

Zoo's awesome, the best part of the update for me. Got all the pets except the spiders (I gave up my widow to get a rainbow phoenix ages back, so back to UW I go), and I love how you can wander the island and see them all there.
As for if you keep the same pet, well, if you release it, then it's gone forever and you can charm a new one, but it won't be the same. But you don't actually need to release it I think. Show it to Emryd (think that was the one). It'll say something like "Do I have this in my collection?" (or "look at margrid's pet") and it'll say a lvl20 (or whatever) pet has been added to your collection. Then it'll ask if you want to release it, just say no. The pet will still be unlocked and your precious that you hand raised will still be with you. Think so anyway, still got my strider and it says the moa birds lvl20 dire, hearty etc are all unlocked. Same with masters of whispers and his black moa. Though I released the elder black moa for a hearty black moa later (for 2000 balth faction).

I've also spent some time trying to find and charm pre-evolved level 15 pets to save some time getting them to top tier. I've managed to get an elder wolf on Spearhead Peak and an elder crane in Pongmei Valley. So far I have not been successful at getting the elder reef lurker in Boreas Seabed, though I haven't given up, and it seems that the elder crocs in Verdant Cascades are not charmable. I already had top-tier orange and white tigers, so I didn't go after the elder tiger in Pongmei or the elder white in Melandru's Hope.
Are there any other charmable evolved animals out there, other than the Black Moa, Black Widow, and those I've listed?

Has anyone figured out what the point of this place is yet?

That's quite easy. I though everyone knew:
- 1. PvP characters can now change evolutions and choose between piercing and slashing pets (spiders, flying birds and reptiles deal piercing damage, the rest seems to deal slashing). Pets are now fair in PvP. Make some PvP Zaishen quests, which give more points than the rest, unlock an eagle, unlock the tiers for your wolf and the eagle until they both are at tier 7, and you have all evolutions and damage types.
- 2. Gotta catch 'em all!
- 3. $. XD

My best pet remain dire black widow but i must admit that this place may have a sense if will some buff to pet usage.
Someone suggest compression bar (1 slot instead of 2).
Pvp maybe ok with pet but in pve they sucks (except never rampage alone spear chuker).
The ideal thing to revive pet gamin is compression bar + more reactive pet.
They take to long to change objective.
Maybe some elite need a buff.

I've found that as an assassin, the easiest way to level the pets to hearty and lvl 20 is bring them along for keg farming. Grab your 3 ranger heros, each with a different pet and run to to the farm spot. Flag them near the entrance while you go round up the vaettir. Once the left side of vaettir are all mobbing you, flag the heros to your location. Once the pets are within your aggro bubble, keg away. Repeat with the right side. Took me less than an hour to raise 3 lvl 5 pets to lvl 20 and hearty.

I've just got all the pets excepting the Moss Spider to top tier. I really like this part of the update, since it's something us rangers have been wanting since forever.
I find the fastest way to get an animal unlocked is:
In around half an hour you'll be charming a lvl 20 dire animal. I have used this method for most pets. As long as you can get to it - using henchies and filling out with decent skills if you need to then sending them away when the area around the pet is cleared.
It's faster to use [Resurrect] on each hero, as you immediately die again but the pet still gains XP, with 3 heroes you can level a pet to 20 in around 20 minutes. You do end up with an un-evolved pet, but adding the last tier costs only 2000 faction.
Using [Resurrect] has been advantageous in the Menagerie itself since the pets won't attack, so doing them a little damage before saccing to death and beginning the process gives you a lvl 20 hearty animal to charm. It does take longer though, since you invariably end up leveling two animals at once.
I find the fastest way to get an animal unlocked is:
- Load up 2 Rezmer heroes (and a monk if you don't need the third slot) with: [Mending] [Resurrection Signet] [Restore Life] [Resurrect]
- Ensure [Restore Life] is specced high enough to resurrect with 1hp, and disable their skills.
- Make your way to the animal you want.
- Put on your cheap armor with five superior runes and aggro the animal, setting heroes to avoid combat.
- Enable Restore Life on all heroes.

I suggest doing a combo of taming low level pets and then doing the Zaishen PvP quests to upgrade them to level 20 with all evolutions.
A level 5 pet only costs 1000 balthazar faction, but you can save yourself this by just taming them. The Wiki and the Zaishen pet dudes tell you where you can find the pet in question.
You then upgrade them with faction, faster and more efficient than death levelling them or doing something else.
The HB and RA Zaishen quests are easy ways to get faction:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zaish...agerie_Grounds
9K faction are needed to fully unlock a pet. If you do not tame the pet yourself, 1K faction more (10K all in all) are enough to fully unlock a pet.
OK, you cannot do this AFK, but balthazar faction is so abundant nowadays, you can also say you pay 2 Zaishen Keys to evolve your pet.

A single stable npc in an existing town would have been fine.
I think the resources it took to create and implement this mess could have been better spent elsewhere in the game.

and considering this was done in coder SPARE TIME (as confirmed by Linsey in Martin and my interview with heron air Tuesday) and for information, it was Joe in the dev department that came up with it AND the stylist... in his spare time

The worst one is the Moss Spider... how much does one of those eggs cost?
I better start saving gold coins...

There's also rainbow phoenix where you need 10 maxed title to get it.

So are players able to see another players zoo and there tame their pets? if so we will see a market for dire lvl 20 pets soon.

As far as I know it is not possible to take someone else to the Menagerie, only you and your heroes.

[Echo][Resurrect][Ether Signet][Resurrection Chant] and disable res chant so they only use it when you need the rez at end.
make sure you kill of one of the 2 hostile pets if you lvl like this (only one gets xp then duh ) and lock the heroes to that pet (or they won't use echo..)
and if you do get a elder like this you can death lvl the normal way by asking for a lvl 15 agressive pet at that zaishen guy (wich do attack)

Washi is right. If you don't bring Flesh on a res mes, you're not very smart...
Marth Reynolds
Actually you should have read it first :/
if you resurrect someone who has 1 hp max they die yet still give xp to enemies.
if you use flesh of my flesh they come back with 1 hp and need to die again, tough you can equip a vamp wep i suppose but if you want to wait till the pet hits you, you'll lose valuable time.

Am I the only one who spent time in there screenshotting like crazy without even handing any pet in ^^;
I just found the scenery devastatingly beautiful. Then I went to hand in my rainbow phoenix and jingle bear.

Has anyone else had odd experiences leveling/evolving pets lately? It seems that the common wisdom about this is no longer applicable.
For example, I have had several pets that reached final evolution at level 14 and pets that did not experience their first evolution until level 12 or 13. I'm getting aggressive/dire pets from builds and farms that should not produce any such thing, as the pet is taking massive damage and doing little damage (both in absolute terms and in relation to the damage I'm doing). Pets that I charm as level 12 playful are turning elder at level 14 rather than hearty, despite being played passively and dying frequently.
It seems that the information on the wikis and all the guides to pet evolution written over the last four years have gone out the window.
Perhaps it doesn't matter, really, since a "wrong" evolution can be used to unlock tier 7, after which you can pick the evolution you want easily. A wrong evolution is no longer a complete waste of time that forces you to repeat a lot of work from scratch. But, it would be nice to understand how the system works anyway.

I was worried about the Black Moa, but luckily they let us unlock more evolutions, so there will be finally evolved Black Moas around the place.
The hardest so far was the White Moa. I had to rezone more than 50 times until that flock appeared at last!

But it doesn't matter much. If you can't get the right evolution, you give the level 20 pet away pay 2000 Balthazar to unlock the tier 7 if the pet was elder, and ding, you get what you want.

The animal will gain XP every time you die, even if it isn't attacking, if it is hostile. You can make the animal hostile by starting and then aborting Charm Animal.

I got my spider, my jingle bear, and my rainbow phoenix. The only other one I might get is my rangers original orange tiger from factions

How come I can't get the pet trainer to train my level 5 rainbow phoenix? I took it to him, and I can't seem to get an option for anybody in teh managerie grounds to train the pet. What am I doing wrong?

The alternative is to talk to Helena (Keeper) and pay either Balthazar faction or Zcoins + gold to unlock the animal and/or evolutions you want, then go talk to Wynn who will show you your choices.
