I don't know about you guys, but Shadow Form really bugs me in pve. I don't have an assassin, so I can't use it to perma SF on my paragon

This is blatant profession discrimination, so I propose spreading the love and buffing Shadow Form so that everyone can use it to farm! Yay

Here's my idea:

Shadow Form: Elite Skill - For 300...225...150 seconds, you are a shadow. You cannot move, attack, or use skills, and all hostile spells that target you fail, and all attacks targeting you miss. 10e, 1s recharge, no cast time.

This also gets rid of the need to use elementalist or mesmer skills to keep SF up permanently, so you get 7 full skill slots to play around with. But more importantly, it will let everyone perma SF, while emphasizing what is important about tanking - sitting still and not doing anything. Thoughts? Comments? Praise?

At first, I saw this thread, and thought "no way"
Then I actually read it, and I sort of liked it. It might be a bit over-powered, but I like the idea, because it would get rid of UWSC and all of that crap that bugs me xD

The concept of your idea also makes the skill seem more realistic, not that it's really important, but as the name implies, you become a shadow. In real life, shadows cant do anything. Just saying =P

This thread makes me want to poke out my eyes with a sharp chunk of obsidian. Prior to last december's skill update, SF could be perma'd by all professions, which made eles particularly potent in uwsc's. That's why anet nerfed it down a bit. There are a whole pile of elites in this game that can only be run by the primary profession they belong to. Try running Spell Breaker on anything else but a monk. It's not blatant discrimination, it's called game balance.

Not necessarily. I'm just calling into question the basis for this proposal. Sins that are using SF aren't really tanking in the sense I meant it, they're solo farming. In solo farming everyone is the tank, since you're the only one there to draw aggro.

The OP talks about making it available to all professions to farm, but his suggestion wouldn't really do that, it would just turn the player into an aggro drawing rock. Doesn't really sound like farming to me, doesn't even really sound like tanking, since you're not doing anything.

If we don't consider the fact that it is the super elite version of Obsidian Flesh and Mist Form together, even a 100% reduction of damage you deal as perma would still make it very powerfull.

your changes would completely kill SF - ok so you aggro ONE group, but in the event you are NOT interrupted while casting SF, you are unable to move, and that is the ONLY group you will be able to aggro. then you are stuck for 300 seconds aka 5 whole minutes. who in the world would want to group with you??

i'm assuming you are being sarcastic...but if not...wow...never thought i'd hear a paragon complaining about PvE...

Although Shadow Form needs a functionality change to either stop sucking if you reduce the number or stop being oversued if you increase them, that is not the best functionality change.

Something like:

Shadow Form
Elite Form. For 10...58...70 seconds, you cannot take damage from attacks, take 75% less elemental damage and dark damage heals you instead damaging you. This skill is disabled for 120 seconds.

Shadow Form (PvP)
Elite Form. For 5...29...35, you cannot take damage from attacks and take 66% less elemental damage and all your non-dagger skills are disabled. This skill is disabled for 120 seconds.

Then change assassin's promise not to affect forms, so they can't use arcane mimicry to reload it.

This skill desperately needs a rework, but it doesn't need to be a total functionality change. Just make it a Form that Disables itself for a certain period of time, so it cannot be up 100% of time even at 20 Shadow Arts.
But keep the duration it has now for lower attributes (to be fair increase +20% longer to make up for the loss of Enchantment type) so all other nonperma farming/running uses remain untouched.

You can safely ignore most of the stuff I wrote in the first post. Basically, I figured SF could be nicely balanced by ensuring that you couldn't effortlessly move from mob to mob farming away at an incredibly rapid pace. So I'm fond of the no moving thing. Obviously duration is an issue.

It seems like a way to slow down farming without removing the "perma" aspect of shadow form, which is what Anet intended to do with previous changes to SF without removing the ability to maintain it 100% of the time.

shadow form is a stupid skill it needs a complete functionality change, if they keep working with the current concept it will always be a gimmick/farming skill or useless in the context of a real build.

In a game that is based on survival, invicibility probably isn't a good idea.

Shadow Form needs to be removed from the game or get a heavy nerf. That's all there is to it.

If SF is nerfed then all skills used to farm should be as well, and when they finish doing that they should also remove all the PVE skills and consumables, that is what you guys want isn't it?

You want balance then they should change all damage skills deal +1 damage and all healing skills deal +1 healing, remove all other skills from the game. Remove all weapons from the game and replace them with pointed sticks.

After reading the GOD AWFUL squalling from you guys after the last update because you didn't get the nerfs you wanted. I hope Anet keeps Shadow Form around just to spite the HELL out of you guys, I hope they buff it back to where it was before the last nerf. It would also put a smile on my face if they unnerfed Ursan to really rub your noses in it.

What has hurt this game the most is Anet listening to you whiners to nerf this and nerf that. It is PvE for goodness sake let it go, people play PVE to have fun, you want to show how godly you are play PvP. People haven’t left over PVE unbalance they have left over PvE nerfs.

If Anet wants to keep players around they had better figure out that you guys are not the community you are a small fraction of it and the only ones complaining are all of you, I think they have because you guys didn’t get your way last time around and no matter how much you hold your breath or kick and scream I hope they continue to ignore you over things like SF, consumables, and the next thing you guys ask (wait demand) to be nerfed.

How many different monsters exist in GW that can deal enough damage (or any at all) to a character using SF to kill them? Not many, and they are spread out in few places. This means that 1 skill allows 1 class (since they made it virtually impossible to perma on anything by Sin) to farm anything (practically). Farming isn't the problem for me though. For me, the problem is that things like UWSC, FoWSC, VSF, etc. have become the normal situation for many places. I used to be able to do Slavers with PUGS. Did it on my Ranger, Monk, and Rit. Now, you can't find anything going into Slavers but Voltaic Spear farm teams. Same with UW and FoW. Used to be able to find PUGs for them, not it is only speed clears.

Only thing I want them to change about Shadow Form is to make it impossible to maintain it 100% of the time. If it was reduced to 80% you could still use it, and not be able to farm anything indefinitely. I remember doing Tombs with an A/Me using Arcane Echo and Shadow Form with Shadow of Haste to teleport to safety when SF ended. Could solo all of Tombs with it if you were patient, but it took longer, and it took more skill.

As far as the idea the OP presented.... LOL.... no. SF is already broken (in my opinion) and your idea would simply make it worse. Not only would it be bad for the games economy, it would be bad for the games population.

I will admit, The only I come here is to kill some time and sometimes get a good laugh, And well, this whole SF business was the one to make my day. Like one guy said... Who in their right mind is going to stand around for 5 min. waiting for a skill to wear off so you can just recast in a few and stand around for another 5 min. The whole concept was just....well i had to read it more then once for it to fully sink in.
