Construction? Looks more like after the destruction to me.
But yeah, looks very KCish. Same color scheme at least.

i just hope they release some ingame footage along with the first teaser/trailer.

The fact that you have to go back five years illustrates the point I was trying to make. Yeah, they did introduce a trailer at 2003 E3 and a demo at 2004 E3, but so did everyone else - E3 was the place to be 5 years ago when you wanted to debut a video game. Since then E3's fallen out of favor, and Arenanet has almost solely concentrated on PAX. What have they done at E3 recently that would show that they would do ANYTHING there, now or in the future?

Dispite the canthan colors, the construction image looks a lil high tech. Kinda like the mix between Asuran and Canthan work. Maybe the capital in Divinity's Reach may look something like that.

Kinda remind me of the luxon walker things, like the one where you get the incubator from by leviathan pits.

Well, a piece of concept art (that was unreleased to the public, no less), was enough to get people riled up about the new Zelda.

also, i am pretty sure they are Guild Wars 2, since what competition would accept "old art work?"

GW2 concept art by Daniel Dociu and Kekai Kotaki: http://www.intothepixel.com/artwork/...st_winners.asp
(Here's an article about it on Gamasutra.) |
While we're at it, do you know if the pics that Kekai and other Anet artteam members show in the ImagineFX magazine (#44, June 2009) are for GW2? There's a very nice Char on page 41, a Water Djinn/Margonite with four arms on page 44, the 2 IntoThePixel winners plus other nice pics (one looking like a City of Ascalon? one from Utopia IIRC, a very nice lady with an eagle, a futuristic city?) on page 52-53, a centaur on page 63.
(I can't find them on the Net and won't scan them for risk of infringing Copyrights)
What's with these pictures which are also on deviantart? What about the Knight Errant? (Yeah, I know, I'm a cyber-stalker!)
Arduin
The construction site looks nothing I've seen in Guild Wars. Look closely to the background. There are skycrapers! Look at the foreground, there are subway-like tubes!
And the actual construction. Some kind of lightning/plasma welding is used. Looks to me like this is a glimpse from the future, and they are not building a city (Kaining) but something like...a spaceship

The person on the foreground of Snow Battle looks a lot like our concept art champion from Guild Wars.
Aljasha
man, these guys are great. i hope we'll see some armors and weapons from the concept art in the game.

Kaineng has these influences of urbanization to the degree of a modern metropolis. Luxons as the seafarers are certainly prime suspect for a shipyard such as this. Maybe their tech level started out higher than it was in the "finalized product". Besides, it's just a background and even what's in the foreground is hard to turn into a usable asset within the game.
Jarus
That's quite a modern-looking city in the background though.

The Luxons are heavily into giant robot Mecha-Crabs. My money is on them being the intended target. As far as the skyscraper go, it might have been a discarded idea about the exact nature of the Factions setting.

You're right Arduinna, it looks much more "modern" than the fantasy look we're used to in GW1. Is it going to be the equivalent of Steampunk for fantasy?

Lol my post got deleted for no reason, nice :P.
As to what I said, I sure hope we get some info on the concepts and some more concepts at that.

GW2 takes place over 250+ years from the first one, so you can safely assume there will be modern concrete cities and newer technology. That concept art that says "Guild Wars" is actually for GW2, if Regina's giant obvious hint wasn't obvious enough for you!

Personally, I wanna say these four words:
Not Going To Happen
But, there is a chance for everything, however small they might be

Well, what do you make of the "Construction Site" piece?

This actually kind of worries me though. I'd rather not see GW2 take on too much modern tech. Still awesome to see some GW2 concept art though.
edit: as far as I could tell all the "Construction" pics and links posted in this thread are cropped; the full-size original is here.

Striking how few fictional universes wich have magic never seem to have much technological progress. A thousand years may pass, there will still be knights in armor, spellcasters and magic swords. Exept maybe in Starwars.

On closer inspection of your link, though, if you zoom into the bright turquoise bit on the raised... "gantry"...it's a distorted photo/picture of something else - there is a little man standing behind an object looking down a street!

I feel the same way, but at the same time I'm rather excited by the idea of a more modern atmosphere. I'm getting to the point these days where I'm really growing tired of the same ol' settings in MMO's. I'm hungry for something different in my surroundings. While a huge part of me doesn't want the legend of GW1 to be lost in Gw2, I also don't want to relive the same thing in the sequel. I'm hoping a perfect blend of the two will rise. Keep the legend of GW1 evident in our journey, but have the 'future' feel like the future it should be for that time.
From the concept art alone I''m not worried that GW2 will go overboard and turn into Battlestar Galactica.

It is also still concept art. Meaning it could have nothing to do with anything in the real game.
Yes, 250 years have passed, but I wouldn't expect GW2 to be to gothicpunk. I mean, we sorta had some stuff with the Asura and GOLEMS (read: magic robots!), but going that far off the beaten path in terms of timeline change seems like an unlikely change for an established franchise. The only game in recent memory that can pull that off is the Assassin's Creed series.

I wont be surprised if Asura build an automated city or a war machine the size of Terminators Giants but besides that i dont see any other hints of 'WTF we are in the futurte" thing

Agreed...there are actually of them one at the far behind the dragon..might be a mountain looks as if it was a Norn settlment type structure...But a fine dragon..wont be this size in the game if it is put in it at all
