Maybe that's what Anet meant when they were talking about new advertisement methods in the future? But is this a case of the mountain coming to the prophet or is it really just a prophet climbing up a lot of mountains? Like Twitter, Facebook, etc. If so, where do you draw the line, Facebook is not a global thing really.
Will ArenaNet create a VZ site? Get their own channel on XBL, PS3 and Wii? Do Podcasts? Resume creating crazy videos? Will Anet invade the Iranian Bloggersphere on wordpress? Will we soon be playing an ARG? Will Ascalon ever get its own top level domain?

Why would I "become a Fan" when they keep making decisions that I can't stand?
Giga_Gaia
They don't do anything on FB. There's really no point to follow them when there is nothing to follow. There aren't even any pictures of the staff/office/etc.
Inde
Almost 100 new followers today! Notice my leet skills at ignoring all the naysayers.
(Except Giga has a point, pics of the staff and anet offices would definitely be cool.)

Gun has a point about having a point. Sorry Gun! Doesn't anet have a flickr account if I recall with tons of anet pics? They should move them over to facebook.

Our alliance, Astral Travellers[OBE] started a Facebook group a little while ago, in order to extend the love we share internationally in the virtual worlds of Guild Wars back out into the slightly more real world (i.e. no need to hide behind avatars) of social networking. Well, real or virtual, the feelings are still real, aren't they? We intend to confuse (and hopefully delight) non-gamers who blunder into our group with an odd mix of reality and fantasy, so we're not overtly or exclusively pushing Guild Wars or Arenanet and we welcome anyone weird enough to want to spread international friendship, diversity, and cooperation with us. Our Facebook group is called Band of Astral Travellers[OBE].

Actually they are more active on youtube than on facebook. I forgot the exact address, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

Np, 'We' forgive you!
All joking aside, thanks for the flickr link. Still it would be nice if we could see more pictures of the office, catch a glimp of some of that magic that's going on there. No not GW2 stuff, but Anet's culture in general.

I'll follow you to Sorrows, I'll follow you to FoW and UW, I will not follow you to Facebook. I will however follow you to Xfire, now that they have unlimited membership clans and whatnot.

You serious?

Nothing against ANet but I just don't like those social networking sites. So I won't make an account there.

Social networking sites? Live video conferences?

As to Facebook - I have an account that I haven't visited since October. Might drag myself on there to join later but I really don't want to have to spend an hour rejecting peoples invites to play "Cute Fluffy Bunny Raising" app. Annoying ><

All right, they're up to 814 fans. That's 157 of us! They were stuck in the low 600's for a few days and we're boosting them up.
Kind of interesting to see how many gamers aren't keen on the social networking and media sites. It's making me think about demographics and the backgrounds of those that do frequent these sites. Maybe I'll do some research on that. See what social media gamers do like. Could be some gem laying in there that we all don't even know we are using together.

816th... Well i hope my life wont go to hell after sighning up with Anet =)

Eh, like I said, still don't want any of you to have my real name. I keep my facebook page on the private setting for a reason. Considering I've gotten DEATH THREATS before on guru as well as harassing messages in game from posters on guru.... my name, address, etc are only going to be seen by people who I actually know.

Regina and I are having a lot of high level discussions at the moment about community - so I would not rule out that we might do more crazy videos/ podcasts in the future. But like I said, we are still discussing things
Oh, and you are right, there is not much activity on our facebook presence at the moment - but I have a feeling that might change in the future

Heya!
First of all, Inde, thanks for posting about this on the forums.
Secondly, yes the Facebook page is a little bare right now, but that's just a side effect of the fact that we're in development mode right now, and haven't released new infos yet... Facebook is there as an additional option and way to interact with the company for those players who have accounts on that site. We can't participate on every social networking site (there are too many!), so we will be selective about it. There are things we can do with Facebook and Twitter that we can't do on the website, and vice versa, and Martin and I are having a lot of discussions on how we can use these tools.

Especially with guru members.
I'm on facebook myself but wont join as a fan ever.
Yawgmoth
If only I had an account there I'd see absolutely no reason not to join as a fan. But is it worth making a facebook account that I wouldn't use for anything else?
Buster
Count me in. I'll add them to my page when I get home from work. I may not agree with Arenanet all the time but I'll always be their fan.

But if you don't have a Facebook account and don't want to get a Facebook account, I don't think you should feel any pressure to get one.

Forget the nay-sayers, I think this is a great idea to reach the fans and keep us up to date. I check my Facebook ten times more than I do the Official Site or Guru. So to get some newsfeeds on game updates and changes and news through Facebook is a great and welcome addition. I would love to see more photos and vidoeos. Maybe some candid insider videos of you guys working away on the game (not giving out details though). More like what goes on in a typical day at ArenaNet.

Hey why not, I am now a fan of ArenaNet. Last I checked it was around 852 fans.
