Wealth and the age of the game...
jon0592
I'm the opposite of everyone in this thread, I used to spend just cause... whenever I had a decent amount (ie 10k LOL) I would go to Droks just to see what's on sale... if there was a cool bow, I'd buy it and THEN make a ranger for that bow, only to delete the ranger maybe 5 days later.
Now, I barely play and so I'm hoarding everything I've got. For what? who knows

Is that natural for a game that is nearing the end of its lifecycle? Is this similar to the phenomenon that you see in real life as people realize that "they can't take it with them"?

Whenever I amass any significant amount of cash, I spend it on armour for my Ritualist.
Gennadios
Personally, I've been spending left and right to furnish my HoM to the best of my abilities.
I fully recognize that GWs lifecycle is at an end and my only motivation at this point is to take EVERYTHING that the devs will allow to GW2 (If it ever sees the light of day/if I even care by the time it's released.)
My current obsession is farming hero armors and possibly getting a tormented weapon set a few months down the road.

pumpkin pie
Not that there's much left for me to spend in my account, but my advise is don't keep anything, spend everything, that's what I do now, when you get hacked there will be nothing for the hackers to take

Trading sucks, it's deepy unpleasant and a waste of time. So I buy from merch when I can... don't care if I overpay when buying from players, it saves time. I'll often under charge if I want to sell, for the same reason.
For quite some time, I've had all the equipment I need and like the look of, I have all the money sink titles I wanted, and I'm not interested in rare and expensive armour/weapons/minis/tonics etc. So I have little need for money, and what I do need, I make enough just by playing the game. Back when I was grinding HFFF, I'd take leeches for free because I didnt need the money.
So yeah, I just spend without thinking. I don't actively hoard money or ectos - but I do hoard any drops/materials I think I (or guild-mates) might use.

I've always played with that mentality (can't take it with you) because, well, it's always been true. IRL it's true, too, but you have family to pass wealth down to, so it makes more sense to 'hoard' or rather - save up. In any game, I just don't see the need to save money unless I have a specific goal, such as a nice weapon/armor or whatever. Otherwise, I'm always well under 100k all the time.
Trelliz
I'm at the stage in the game where I don't need to spend money on minipets, Destroyer weapons and elite armours as I have their respective monuments filled, so I blew about 250k on z-keys when the latest tournament points came out, and i'll likely begin the long process of saving to do that again in a couple of months.
faraaz
I'm currently working on a few projects, purely for the lulz, i.e Fow armor for every character (even my stupid mules), Chaos Gloves (eventually) for every character, GWAMM on my Sin atm, then GWAMM on my monk etc. Itemwise, I have everything I need, and anything over and above that is merely if something catches my fancy. So no, I don't spend money like water, and tend to hoard it, but when it hits breakpoints (~1 million gold), I spend it all in a matter of minutes.
Zamochit
I do hoard a certain amount of cash on the off chance that another Eternal shield for the collection comes along, but it never does... *sigh*
Nothing cool is for sale anymore so waste that cash people

Zapper901
I used to hoard all my cash, but now I just hand it out or blow it on whatever I feel like. I generally try to keep a couple 100k on me or in stuff I can liquidate easily, just in case something comes up that I need cash for.
Nereyda Shoaal
I used to stash items and cash but one day I started to behave like a woman... go shopping when in a bad mood
Soo... at the moment I have 14 armor sets for my monk

If I can choose between buying a given item for 50k this instant, or for only 40k plus an additional hour of searching Party Search or Guru, I really can't be bothered by the difference in price.
Money is irrelevant in GW.

I tend to hoard cash until my storage hits a million, then spend 400-700k and start the cycle again. I'm running out of things to spend it on though, having already bought everything that goes into the HoM for my main except for the really rare minipets. Last week I spent 300k on buying the exact number of lockpicks I still need to break on HM to max Unlucky. I guess I'll be spending exclusively on Z-keys from now on, see how high I can get that title. (I stopped opening that crap chest as soon as I hit enough points to get the HoM monument.)
Shasgaliel
hmm I do not see the difference between now and the time I was starting the game. I am lacking money all the time....
Ghost Omel
I alwasy run on the same ammount of cash on hand...25k exactly... After i got my War all elite armor sets exept 2 prof ones and Elite sunspear that is...But yeah i was wasting them left and right.. now going back to saving up for sweet tooth and maybe party not sure... we will see all i know that "Officialy" my HoM is finished got my beacon so meh not taking anythign with me in GW2 besides the HoM why keep it....dont see a reason to =)
Melkorium
You can't take it with you, so you may as well spend the inheritance
fowlero
I find the same thing, i've had plenty of money during my playtime and have almost everything i need so now when i do come to buying something i can't be bothered to trade the person down and don't mind overpaying because i rarely find something i need to buy.
Makes things a lot faster too

MithranArkanere
I don't trade. In the time I would acquire something I want for 10K, I'll get 25k, and maybe even the item itself from a monster.
Trading is slow and tedious in GW, and for some items, absolutely impossible! >_<

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same phenomenon as me.
In the early years of Guild Wars, I generally found myself as a hoarder of wealth - actively trading to build my stash of items, etc. Now, in the waning years of Guild Wars, I'm simply spending money like water, to the point where I really don't care whether I'm overpaying for something or not. Is that natural for a game that is nearing the end of its lifecycle? Is this similar to the phenomenon that you see in real life as people realize that "they can't take it with them"? |
Every time I buy something then I pay too much.
LONGA
Not Really care about hoarding money since I'm good with 8 chars with all skills of thier class.Honestly doing title for HoMs is too much for me.Maybe I gonna get all of those Elite armor on the display.
Miss Puddles
How much money I have fluctuates a lot, I'm usually tapped because I tend to buy new armors whenever I have enough to do so, or spend it on lockpicks or whatnot. On the rare occasion that I actually have money, I spend it on stuff I want instead of hoarding fake money.
EinherjarMx
I used to hoard cash until eventually I hit 1000k, then I bought my ele's fow and stopped caring, started to spend the cash like water too. From time to time I powertraded to get some cool skins but now my only worry is to get 100k to buy 15k druids for my gf's ranger >.<. (we're at maguumas atm, still plenty of time XD)
One thing I noticed too is that when you stop worrying about the cash eventually it gets to a nice amount.
