Since you rarely see the same person twice, and guild tags are unmemorable, people in Guild Wars are effectively anonymous, leading to no repercussions for bad behavior, which tends to make people treat each other like shit, and make PUGs a shitty experience. GW2 is supposed to fix that and add more of a shard-style community feel.

Why does everybody choose to H/H?

By shards, I mean servers (worlds). They already said GW2 will have different worlds, for a tighter community, but you will be able to easily move between them so you can always play with your friends.
Ghost Omel
Oh alright i thought about it but then got confused...Agree completely i mean its no different then Districts now i mean they kinda divide the comunity as well up to a point. But even in this sharded comunity getting lost inbetween the crowds will be as easy as it is now.. and i doubt any 1 would remember your good deed UNLESS you have sigh on your armor saying "I helped you with a mission .. remember me we can PuG again" sighn.

Its easier and faster and I do not have to wait, or have anyone wait for me.
I like groups but rarley have the time to dilly dally about builds or BRB or At merch 1 sec etc...

UnChosen
Because even with all the "overpowered" skills like SF that are supposed to make everything easy and "ruin PvE"....90% of pugs still fail, and that is assuming you can find a pug in the first place.

Guildies>Heroes> pugs that pretty much sums up how i play and why i play so just look at the previous post..

Because I can.
And if I couldn't - I probably wouldn't be playing GW.

I'm a fairly new player and a couple of nights ago, I completed Prophecies for the first time ever. Pugged the whole way through and had a lot of fun. I'd much rather play with real people, even with the liabilities that come with that.
I got through Ring of Fire with bonus with a PUG even though we quickly found out our one Warrior wasn't infused and was pretty much worthless. That prompted our other monk to leave. We didn't have a nuker. .... no damage and only one monk... it took a little longer than it should have, but we made it. I was a very busy monk in that mission and I had a blast.
I can play with guildies from time to time, but when everybody's competent in PvE, I can sit back and end up just wanding the bad guys while occasionally healing someone. Struggling PUGs are just more fun.
Also, did Hell's Precipice on the first try with a PUG and there was one other person there finishing prophecies for the first time, and it was a cool experience. We stayed in the end-game area longer than everybody else and chatted a bit. We were both pretty excited. It was neat to experience that with another human instead of typing.... "What do you think of that, Ogden?" and getting no response.

Why I prefer H/H over PuGs:
1. No annoying memes/pop culture references.
2. No "srry haf 2 eat" kids.
3. A competent group that actually listens and has some understanding of how the game works, even if said understanding is artificial.

Brawn Over Brains
I play generally because humanity are ignorant obnoxious idiots.
I prefer being able to control, although Ogden sometimes decides to An Hero..
I suppose that's just AI.
The other day though, I took a chance with a PUG and got master's NM on Tahnakai temple previously failing it a couple of times..
I rarely PUG, especially with Hell's Precipice..
PUGing Hell's is ridiculous.
But I'd rather have one of my hero's aggro occasionally than the other 7 people I'm PUGing with aggroing every 2 minutes.
especially when it's in HM.

- Isn't it obvious? Most of the players who respond are powergaming egoists. Been there, done that myself, but I quit when I realized that no one cares about me finishing a mission, except my proud self.

People said it before-- Much of the problem now has to do with the dispersion of the playerbase. There are LOTS of great, knowledgeable, capable PvE players out there, who would be great to PuG with.
The problem is, they're off somewhere else, on a different continent, in a dungeon, in the mission already, spamming their phat lewt in Kamadan, or vanquishing. In any given moment, in any one outpost, there may be a small handful of willing, available people for a PuG. But are they Pugging the same thing I am? Are they getting ready to zone somewhere else? Are they ready to form a guild vanquish?
With 4 continents and probably over 100 outposts and 100 more instances, my chances of actually finding a group that won't make me grind my teeth are smaller and smaller.
Ironically, PvE skills and Flavor-of-the-Wiki group compositions may have made successful pugging a little easier in HM. In one of those PuGs, everyone SHOULD know their roles, and know what to do. So theoretically, the pugging might actually not fail. I know this isn't the case, but I think there's a reason plenty of people still pug the VS farms and look for the Cryways.
So now there's probably another reason not to PuG that some people have alluded to--they're still "purists" (or "elitists," depending on your point of view), who dislike all the "-ways" that have come to dominate the PvE game (in both PuGs and H+H).
so, care to address that? Do all the "button-mash" team builds make you more or less likely to join a PuG? Do they make PuGging easier and more successful, or just more of the same proof of general idiocy?

I liked PUGs, yes it was frustrating, but it had its moments, and I like heroes too. I just had this idea (no idea if anybody suggested it before): new titles (or other rewards) that require all human parties for missions/certain quests, it would work like HM/NM => PUG mode lol. Would people jump on something like that?

If Im playing with real people I play in guild only. And even that can be frustrating...BRB mom is calling. BRB dog needs to go out. BRB pregnant wife wants milk...the list is endless. Even in guild you get the occasional, "go on without me, I will catch up". Even before heros, if I could get away with it, I took henchmen over a pug group because it was actually less frustrating then the usual kid running off and dying and blaming the monk who was actually doing his job, or the BRB gotta pee. Let alone the language that is tossed around like its the norm. If I want to listen to someone cuss up a storm over nothing, then I will go to work and listen to the boss rant over nothing. I play GW to get away from reality for a while, not make the day any more frustrating then it already is. But jump on board with a requirement of playing with PUGS? I would quit the game.

Monk of Myst
I prefer to H/H for several reasons:
1.) As a monk who does H/H, I'm not getting the idiot who decides to rush into a mob REALLY far ahead of me and gets himself killed, blaming me and stalking me after to tell me how bad of a monk that I am because I didn't heal him when running in there would have also gotten me killed and that's IF I could have caught up and now I've ruined his survivor title.
2.) I can experiment with a new build and not have some jerk telling me "you're build's not from Wiki! FAIL! EPIC FAIL!" or "You're build doesn't have <insert elite skill here>! You're a noob!" I don't mind suggestions and I take suggestions seriously but when people sit there and say I'm a noob just because I'm trying something new, I do not tolerate it. If the build doesn't work, then at least I'm not using it on human players and people aren't complaining how I'm so bad.
3.) I can balance the group better than someone who believes 6 eles (all with fire magic) and two monks is balanced team in Ring of Fire (I have had this happen to me before back when I first started playing and the person bragged how they were playing for a year).
4.) Do some of you people realize how hard it is to get into a decent group as a mesmer? Most people look at mesmers and say "Yeah, right, you don't do much damage and you don't heal well, we don't want you!" Yes, a mesmer may not do much damage but most people don't understand how mesmers work or what they're good for!
5.) If you're going for a title that requires work rather than money or if you don't want to spend the money but you can get it by working hard, good luck getting a team together. Skill Hunter the old fashioned way is a joke and if you want to get a team together for skill hunting, most people will tell you to buy an Elite Tome. Explorer title takes so long and people sit there and complain that it's too hard and takes too long.
6.) Heroes and Hencies are computerized. They don't talk back to you. They don't abandon you. They don't pretend that they know what they're doing.
Those are my top reasons for using H/H. I've had one too many immature idiots in the past year harass me for whatever reason, especially since I've made my monk my primary. Last year, I didn't mind using PUGs as much but now, as the game gets older and the population grows, I find that the average player's maturity has gone up with the price of Sapphires (oh I'm sorry, they've gone down)!

with H/H I can start a vanguish, go use the restroom, go to the neighborhood store, do my laundry then come back and continue.

I actually enjoy teaming up with players when I get the chance. Otherwise, if no one is looking for groups, I just H/H. Even if we wipe or just get a bad group, I laugh it off and move on. It's just a game. We are meant to have fun and enjoy it. Why not have fun and enjoy it with the community? Who cares if someone is a noob? Help em out.
I'm not stingy like some of the others and say "Oh players suck and are noobs QQ". Suck it up champ. If they suck so much, help them get better. Or else they will be "noob" forever. No one gets good on their own. I'm sure everyone got pointers once in their life from someone else that made them a better player. I'd rather play with others and help them out if they need it, then say "Oh I don't want to team up with them cause they are noobs. My heroes are better".
If I get the chance, I will group up with anyone that needs a group. I'm just that way. I use H/H as a last resort if there is no other players around. Like someone said before, when you beat something and get excited, it's no fun turning to your Heroes and saying "Great Job". I'd rather share my gaming experience with others and help them if need be.

As I posted above, I just went all the way through Prophecies (first-time player) with my monk. Did about 2 missions with a guildie or two, but otherwise it was PUGs.
Did I just get lucky to avoid having a single bad experience with a PUG?
Sure, every once in a while, someone will run off by himself where I can't heal him, and die. Or someone over-aggros and we got wiped a couple of times (Abbadon's Mouth comes to mind). Thunderhead Keep took me a few tries to find a PUG that was willing to stay coordinated and stick to the plan. But I was never once blamed for any of it, and I was never insulted for not being a good enough monk.
I've never once been kicked or called a noob because of my build despite having prophecies only, even before I captured my first elite skill. In the desert, I was asked one time why I was not taking an elite, I replied that it was because I hadn't been able to capture one yet. The only response was, "you can cap WoH in this mission, we'll try and get it for you."
I played 23 out of 25 missions with PUGs, having to try a few of them 2 or 3 times, and I've never encountered a PUG that was impolite to me. (Usually the idiots identify themselves in local chat before I ever join them or accept their invite). But every group I've joined has been fun, whether we succeed or fail.
Am I just that lucky, or is the negative side of PUGs being exaggerated a bit in this thread?

I don't call that playing good, I call that looking on pvxwiki and copying some builds. I create builds like I would think they would do best and I get through everything pretty easy. A bit of originallity wouldn't hurt.

2. I had a blast PUGging when I took my monk through the game for the first time, too. People were polite, helpful and encouraging. Not all of them, obviously, but I remember my first PUG groups a lot more fondly than I remember my current ones. I think it's over time that people build up different expectations of PUGs, or have less incentive to go out and PUG with someone.
People who've played different classes over the 3/4 years they've been here already have a lot of skills unlocked that they can use on heroes. You don't. I think it's less worthwhile for a lot of people here to go out and PUG - remember that many people here have been playing for a lot longer than you - than it is for you as a first time player.
