I would have preferred utopia but didn't happen. I kept hopping that A.Net would pull their heads out of something long enough to see that the game engine wasn't dead.

I would have liked to seen two more expansion at least.

Guild Wars: Prophecies - Eye of the North Expansion
Guild Wars: Factions - Expansion dealing with the unification of Cantha.
Guild Wars: Nightfall - Expansion dealing with Palawa Joko return to power.

There were so many plot lines that could have been explored / closed but instead A.Net decided to abandon the game like it was diseased.

Well, Utopia would have been technically challenging, since some of the ideas they had for it would not have worked in GW1, especially considering Utopia would have been an add-on / expansion and would be using the GW1 game engine, and this meant GW1 was flawed by design.

This is why they went with EotN and took parts of Utopia they could take out (and wouldn't spoil too many surprises) and put it into EotN and the parts they could not take out of Utopia due to design conflicts with GW1, will now be included in GW2.

Utopia was never a possibility once they realised that what they WANTED to do with it, would not be possible in GW1, thus the split to EotN and GW2.

Simple, really.
