Most common "Mained" character?
Monster.
Which class do most people spend all of their time/money playing? I'm wondering mostly because I plan on making a new farming character (I have a 55 monk and Elementalist) and I know I won't play an assassin, which means I'm leaning towards warrior, but I don't really enjoy playing through campaigns with a character that everyone and their mom plays as well.
So I'm sort of wondering which character people have the most of, but more specifically, which character do people tend to use the most?

Well, if that is your real question, I would say Mesmer. The farming is more limited (not impossible), but rarely gets used. I have a Mesmer and I keep getting kicked out of DTSC's because people aren't used to seeing mesmers smite.
If farming is more your thing, and would like to use something that is not used as frequently, try a Rit. Although, I would guess you see more of those now with the recent buffs.
If I'm answering your original question, I would have to say Monk, War, and Sin. You say you already have a Monk, and won't play a sin, so Warrior. But, as you said, "everyone and their mother plays one (although probably not frequently)."

How about you play what you enjoy. If you pick something that other people like but you don't then you will end up screwed.

My necro was my first character, but my Warrior is my main and I play him the most.
I'd say I probably play (Warrior > Mesmer > Necro) more than any other classes I have.

Raudic
monk or warrior probably

I play my rit the most, though my monk (who has leg. skill hunter) has the most xp with my oldest character--ele, the 2nd most xp.
I also play my 3 mesmers a lot, as well as my other rit.
least played, mm and warrior. (I dont have a sin and my dervish is a survivor waiting for some less lagg)

1. Warrior = Monk = Necromancer
2. Elementalist = Mesmer
3. Assassin = Ritualist = Dervish
4. Paragon
Would be my guess at the most popular "title" or "mained" characters. Warrior, Monk, and Ele are probably easiest for grouping, with Necro in the mix. Most versatile? Necro, Ele, and Sin. I'd pick one of those last 3 as a title character, just because you're not stuck with one or two builds for the entire duration of your playing.

Most people have either a monk or a warrior (or both). If you're looking for a profession that is least played then mesmer would be a great option.
pamelf
Mesmer was my first, but it's also my least played. 'Mains' sort of change with time. In the beginning everyone and his dog seemed to be playing Warrior, and there were hardly any monks. These days I find it the other way around. 'Mains' change with what people need for certain builds, and to complete certain areas as quickly as possible.
Pleikki
i play nec most, then monk then war. meh just pick someting you enjoy playing
snaek
mesmer is definitely the least played class (coming from someone who pugs a lot). followed closely by paragon. however, i've been playing my monk a lot simply because its usually always needed in a pug so its easy to find a group.
tbh though, making your decision based on popularity is a bad move. mostly because they are unpopular for a reason--they're underpowered and/or boring to play.

play mesmer. just becuase they are hotties.

These days, if I'm just plain questing or helping someone, I play my Mesmer or Ranger.
Next tier, for farming or Z-quests, I play my Monks (1 male, 1 female) , Assassin (perma), and Rit.
My Warrior, Ele, and Necro are mostly used for Z-quests.
My Dervish and Paragon have become storage mules (although the Derv is used for some Z-quests). My female Ranger always was a mule.
Of course, this is all subject to change without notice or reason.

monk or warrior are most common, then ele
IronSheik
Warrior is played the most, coming from a big Pugger.
Ghost Dog
Considering the sad trend of gamers these days is the cheapest easiest route I would assume it's sins these days.

I would have to say ele cause you can learn the game better and having a popular charcter isnt bad that just means you will find a group faster if you are a mesmer will be alot harder for you to find groups and what not. not the easiest thing to play either espeically if you are new mesmer is mostly a pvp charcter...

Mesmers aren't mostly a for PvP and how does elementalist allow you to learn the game better?

WTB Poll from Q&A mods! It might only settle the GWG member demographic, but it might help the OP - and I'm interested to see what Guru members consider their mains.
Divinus Stella
A poll would be skewed, the people visiting forums are (usually) the upper tier or players in terms or experience and intellect therefore more likely to be playing less superficial professions.
You will find that Timmy 12yr old from kamadan prefers warrior or dervish because they the most muscles and biggest sharp metallic objects and look best dyed in solid black whereas regular posters here are more likely to have mesmers, ritualists or elementalists.

I'd say monk.
Just because everyone wants their own verrry unique looking blond female monk with black FoW armor, bandana/ninja mask and chaos gloves. I guess they think it looks good.

There are a lot more bad players maining sin and derv because they look and sound cool

And chaos gloves are far too bright for most armors. xD
byteme!
Warrior or Monk would be my guess.

Answer to your question depends on whether you mostly play in pugs, with guildies and friends, or solo with heroes and hench.
Solo with heroes and hench, Ranger is my main. Followed closely by my Paragon and Warrior.
Farming, various. Assassin mainly, but depends on what you are farming.

This thread isn't "what is your main character" it is "what do you think gets used as a main character the most".
The likely answer? Monk.

Chocobo1
Sin nowdays, because everyone knows its a free ride to richtown.
reaper with no name
Obviously warrior.
Seriously, I don't see how there could be any debate on it. It was practically designed to be the lowest common denominator class.
Now, me personally, that would be dervish (which should explain to some of you why I'm so much more vocal about dervishes needing fixes than I am about SF or ER).

Lishy
What's used most are warriors because they're warriors and use big, sexy, long swords, and monks because they heal and because they can solo most of the high-end areas using simple team builds.
bjorn shurtugal
Ele is the main i use, but i've been using my sin and rit more often recently, so all professions are generally all balanced

--Post revamp--
I personally think the most used profession for farming would be a Monk, then an Assassin.
Monks from 55 to 600/smite, and healers. They infest Bergen Hotsprings, and Doomlore. 50% of them are in FoW armor (see clones).
Sin's are infesting highly farmed areas like TOTA, DOA, and TOPK. Also, they're great runners next to Dervishes (Derv's infesting Beacon's Perch, and ele's infesting with sins are infesting Rata Sum).
I personally play an Elementalist, because they can do so much. I've tried a bunch of farming builds, but not all that are available to the public. I've made several builds of my own and learned from it. Ele's are fun, and I feel the most comfortable playing the most.

I usually see a lot of monks, wars, & eles with koabd in various ranks. My main is an ele since being a caster is fun..but anyway, you should choose whatever you're comfortable with.

Characters I find fun to play:
Warrior, Assassin, and to a lesser degree Dervish. Melee characters.
Characters who'll get groups easily:
Monk, Warrior, Elementalist, Necromancer.
My main character:
Ritualist. Why? Because I like the appearance, and because at this point I've invested more effort and time into my Ritualist than my other characters.

I'm going to say Warrior.
KZaske
My main is a Ranger, my secondary is yet another Ranger. I love playing Rangers, next to eles they have the best range of abilities in the game. Third in line is one of my three Monks, used mostly for farming. While I have a warrior, I don't play it much anymore because I have given up on trying to play HA.
The only profession I can't stand playing is Assassin. I don't know why, perhaps because I get bored with them about level three.

This topic needs a poll: Which profession has your main character?
Murgatroyd
Kinda depends on where you are.
In Beacon's Perch, you'll lots of dervishes and rangers.
In Bergen Hot Springs, LOTS of monks. Heh.
In Rata Sum, lots of sins and eles.
In LA, Kamadan, and Kaineng City... yeah, monks, warriors, eles.
As for myself, my first 'main' was a Necro, which I still play. A couple of years ago I kinda rediscovered my Assassin character (not permasin!) and played the hell out of it for a while. Then I made a new ranger and played the hell out of it. Recently I made a new rit and am currently playing the hell out of it, along with a new mesmer (I have 'old' ones I never play - I just wanted to start fresh with them).
