Mostly references to other things..

Kliff Undersn - Guilty Gear

Jack McKennie - A name I've been using in RPGs for years

Saint Ajura - Mostly a Final Fantasy reference.

Zazie the Fox
- Partly a Trigun reference, "Fox" because later have him master a form of martial arts based on the unblockable moves in the "fox' series. (Way of the Fox, Golden Fox Strike, etc..)

Viktor Karamazov - Warhammer 40k reference.

Spearmarshal Laeris
- The Spearmarshal part should be obvious..Laeris is just something I came up with.

High Priest Sammaell -Judeo-Christian mythology.

Cyrus Skarheart
- I thought it sounded like a good Necromancer name.

Rassius Faroda - Tales of Eternia and Ogre Battle.

Alexander Baptiste - All Guild Wars, few people ever catch on to where the last name comes from.

Lately I've been drifting towards Egyptian gods for names, but honestly my first char's first name Shoyon was a twist off of one of the old neopets.

*hangs head in shame* at least I deleted him :P However another char that was also inspired by neopets still hangs around and his name is Shoyiku. The replacement to Shoyon was Wraith, because at the time Stargate Atlantis had just come out and I was really into it.

My char's last names (which shall remain anonymous) has always been my handle in other games.

My main, Belila Jadystace, is my AD&D wizard who has been with me for many years so I introduced her to the digital age . The rest of my characters have a variety of names from various languages that have meanings I think suit the char (EG Djesrit on my monk, Heretkau for my rit) or are names from some of my favourite literature (EG Selethe).

My hairier half uses a basic system similar to one posted before. his chars are all Memeth of (insert random word here). Thus he has Memeth of Bacon, Memeth of LLama, Memeth of Hamster etc.
Hes got an odd sense of humor but I love him really.

I usually make the character, and then I try to find a name based on the ethnicity they look like (for example, my old Assassin looked really Asian-looking, so I named her Ai Ming or something like that, and my Dervish is named Hassan). www.behindthename.com, www.gaminggeek.org, and Google I use to find first and surnames.

My other characters are just your stereotypical generic fantasy names, like Sylverhart and Greycloud (taking two words and adding in superfluous ys n shit). Sometimes I use a fantasy name generator for the first name (Rinkworks, yay). Either way, I'm one of those nerds that make stories and whatnot with her characters, so naming is taken seriously and can be a rather long process for me.

Leviathans Guardian (W) - Final Fantasy/Biblical reference

B O O S H (R) - Frisky Dingo reference

Mentok the Mndtaker (Me) - Harvey Birdman reference

The Sending (Rt) - Final Fantasy reference

Vusi Shumba (A) - Old Shani/East African transliteration of a mythological lion.

Pax Cultura (P) - "Cultural Peace" was the motto of an artifact protection movement in the 1930s. I have a tattoo of their symbol. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pax_Cultura

Grenths Sidekick (N) - Obvious GW reference

Chaos Valefor (D) - Final Fantasy/Demonology

Oh, and my user name is another Frisky Dingo reference, as in: “It’s like finding out Jesus knew karate! Can you imagine? Karate Jesus?!”

For my warrior, I went with the name I'm known by among my geek / con / re-enactment friends, Dylyn (Welsh for numbskull) and Caeruleus (Latin for blue-eyed which I am IRL).

My other character names I get from Quenya (one of the Elven languages created by JRR Tolkien). I have 4 chars who all have the last named Khiasa (nomad). Their first names I either got from on-line elvish name generators or from a list of Quenya words with translations --
Zairalin (generated name) , dervish
Avathara (shadowy), assassin
Silmaia (combined words for angel and starlight), paragon
Morimatra (spiced wine), ritualist

I also have a few rarely-used chars with silly names, like Duke Bookah. I used to have a Rit named Master Nostradumass but deleted it.

I tend to use name websites (behindthename.com being my one of choice, followed by 20000-names.com) to look at ideas for names for characters. The names I choose tend to match the campaign the character comes from. I don't necessarily use proper naming patterns, but I at least attempt to match cultures/ethnicities. So Prophecies characters have European names, Factions characters have East Asian names, and Factions characters have African/Middle-Eastern/Indian names. All of my characters are female, btw.

I have -

Verene Sarrasri -- Prophecies Ranger. She's actually the exception to my general rule, in that her name came from two characters from books by Tamora Pierce (Verene was the name of a Puppy in Terrier, and Sarrasri comes from Daine Sarrasri). Still, however, fits my naming convention.
Yui Kuromiya - Assassin
Iseul Nae - Ritualist
Farai Savitri - Dervish
Arien Candelas - Prophecies Warrior (perma-pre)
Lucia Cheval - Prophecies Mesmer
Shizuka Kiyomizu - Factions Necromancer

I have considered using the names of my RP characters, but since I've yet to be able to really replicate any of them in-game, I don't do that

I started off naming my character after my favorite video game Grandia, then I went to mythology. I get the names from www.godchecker.com. The last names are the same for each campain. The proph name was to long and limited my choices for first names so I went with shorter last names for the other campains.

Prophecies last name Dragonhart, I liked the sound of the name, and Hart is my grandmother's maiden name.
Gadwin, male warrior, Grandia 1
Selene, female warrior, Grandia 2
Melfice, male ele, Grandia 2
Lilith, female necro, she started as a Mesopotamian demon with a shape of a harpy, later adopted by the Jews.
Diana, female ranger, roman goddes of the hunt.
Rhea, female ele, mother of the Greek gods.
Freya, female mesmer, leader of the Norse valkyries.
Hela, female necro, Norse goddess of the underworld, the place where the lazy go to.

Factions last name Nian, Chinese for beast.
Meng Po, female rit, she is the last of the chinese afterlife bureaucracy, she gives the potion of forgetfulness.
Guan Yu, male sin, he is one of the 3 great generals of the Han Dynasty (I might make the other 2 someday)
Aslan, male monk. The Narnia movie just came out.
Fengh Huang, female ele, I missed spelled her name, but I got the tengu mask, she is one of the 4 holy beasts aka Si Ling, you will recognize them from the "Closer to the stars" mission. She is the Phoenix.
Gui Xian, male warrior, he weilds an axe and is the turtle of the Si Ling.
Lung Wang, male rit, is is the dragon Si Ling.
Qui Lin, male ranger, he is the unicorn/kirin of the Si Ling.
Wen Shi, femal sin, her historical name is Long Mu, she is considered the mother of dragons.
Yen Lo, male necro, he is in charge of the Chinese underworld

Nightfall, Bumba, he is the Congo creator god.
Anasai, male mes, West Africa trickster god, he is represented by a spider.
Nzambi female warrior, the name is from the Angola creator, somehow I got the name wrong, the name was suposed to be from the goddes of justce and earthquakes (if I find out the proper name I may change it). She uses a hammer.
Oya, female paragon, she is a warrior goddess of western Africa.
Yemaya feamle dervish, she is the western African mother of waters.
Enkidu, male dervish, he is from Mesopotamia, he is know as Giglamesh's friend.
Ninmah aka Ninhursaga, female monk, she is from Mesopotamia, she created Enkidu, she is the mother goddess.
Gilgamesh, male paragon, he is from Mesopotamia, he is an anceint king of Mesopotamia.
Ishtar, female mes, she is from Mesopotamia, the goddess of love.

Yes, there is 25 and yes I have played all of them.

Mostly either a personal favorite, mythical or historical name and Faure added to it. This does not apply for my monk and necro, because they are too old. They are named Galena Althea (monk, both names meaning something with healing) or Zablula Darkness (necro, Zabula is devil in latin, but I didn't notice the typo until i was level 16).

The rest is ... Faure
Ariona (derv, no further meaning)
Athena (warrior, greek goddess)
Arthemis (ranger, greek goddess)
Gabriella (mesmer, no further meaning)
Giulia (ele, no further meaning)
Marcus Brutus (Sin, murderer and brother of Juilus Caesar)
Maxima (paragon, maximus from gladiator, but nonetheless a powerful name)
Nephthys (rit, egyptian goddess, in greek)

And my PvP char used to be Le Frog (Flushed Away-movie char), but people start talking french to me and i don't understand a word french + i hate the language (failed at it at high school), so now it's just F A U R E

Antipathy Acrimonia [monk]: grab a dictionary. I was going to use Acrimonious for the second name, but it sounded too manly so changed it to Acrimonia. 2x the hate, gotta love it.

Dementia Desdemona [ele]: roughly meaning insanity of the devil, seemed fitting for an ele.

Lucina Blackvein [ele 2, survivor]: twisted around the name of a friend's ele, Lucian Blackvein.

Unas Slayerofgods [war]: named after a Nile song, Unas Slayer of the Gods, based on a myth about how Unas (an ancient egyptian Pharaoh) killed and ate the gods in order to achieve immortality.

Narcissia: 10-12 years ago we read a story of Echo and Narcissus in school and I pretty much became obsessed with the name Narcissus. I wanted a more feminine sounding version though, so changed it to Narcissia and have been using the name in games ever since. I'm sure JK Rowling probably had the same idea when coming up with Narcissa's name, sucks that they're so familiar. I didn't copy it though, great minds think alike I suppose.

Narcissia Narcotica [rit]: not sure why I chose Narcotica, it's a genus of moth. I just liked how it sounded. Never meant for it to sound/be drug-related *shrug*.
Narcissia Necrotica [nec]: obvious... necro with a tica on the end to make it longer? Or Necrotic with an a on the end to make it sound nicer with Narcissia? whatever.
Narcissia Neurosis [mes]: Neurosis refers to a class of functional mental disorder involving distress but not delusions nor hallucinations, where behavior is not outside socially acceptable norms (copy, paste ftw). Fitting for a mesmer, obviously.
Narcissia Nyx [para]: Nyx, taken from Greek mythology, was the primordial goddess of the night. gogo texmodded black wings. Tried to stay away from the whole bright shiney paragon stuff I suppose, though her armor is still all white....meh....
Narcissia Neith [sin]: me trying to be cleaver, Neith was the patron deity of Sais (the egyptian town, not the dagger but I thought it'd be interesting to use it anyway since sai are actually one of my favorite dagger skins...iuno). Goddess of war and hunting.
Narcissia Swath [derv]: swath is the space created by the swing of a scythe. so yea...
Narcissia Sins [ranger 1]: Sins... not the in assassin way. She looks like a 12 year old prostitute honestly...
Narcissia Shezmu [ranger 2]: Shezmu is the ancient Egyptian demonic god of execution, slaughter, blood, and wine. Just an awesome name.

Nessus Necrotica [only male char, LDoA nec]: a centaur killed by Heracles, whose tainted blood in turn killed Heracles because Deianira was a dumb bitch.

Pseudo Antipathy [pvp]: Pseudo Antipathy is basically projecting our own faults in someone else and hating them for it. Neat concept and I find that it can be true.

I Heart Geeks [mule]: because geeks are sexy. Not kidding.

Zombie Need Brain [mule]: because I love zombies and the mask made me very happy.

anyway, enjoy my wall of text. I usually put too much effort into character naming... annoying really.
