if the current AB arena is left alone, with a ladder+tournament system built on top of it (as in, two arenas effectively. one is what we have now, the other allows full 12 man teams or something similar), then what you said simply won't happen. casual players will continue to play the casual form of AB. once they get enough guildies, they form up and go into the ladder/tournament form of AB. it's the best of both worlds, and it's also easy to implement. all the groundworks for it is already in place.

Personally, HB was fun for awhile, when its base was much smaller and there was a variety of builds and stratagies to win.
Now its shadow stepping or GG, and mostly just run around to each area with little to no combat.
And if it's not that, its the insane amount of noobs that started showing with ZQ who just wanted their quest with either roll or rock, paper, scissors. It was so hard to find someone who actually wanted to play HB...
It had its hey day for a time, and personally I think it's kinda crude to just say we're scrapping it so suddenly, but its fun and its popularity is gone. It's time to move on.
I just hope Anet can get the new Sealed Play done right *as close to the original PAX 4v4 Sealed Play with 4 players* as possible. Or maybe reintroduce 6v6 ?! Sealed Play should really revive a good bit of the PvP game that seems to be dieng more and more in every format each day.

LOL do you even know what your saying? First off where would they get this Bandwidth to create a whole new 5 (I Think) arena format that has 12v12 ? Anet did create a whole new outpost when they implemented AT/Ladder to HB why would they do that for AB LOL? 2nd off, you think it would be easy forming competitive groups of 12! people? HA and GVG is hard enough to get "skilled" people yet you think it will be soo easy with AB LOL. And the ground works are in place? Really? Sorry you can't have a competitive format in an Arena like Fort Aspenwood where Kurziks get a huge positioning advantage. Should I continue? nah Ill take the easy route out.

you are just grasping at straws now. you have NO argument. please, take the easy way out and stop embarrassing yourself.

the bandwidth is already there. they don't even need a new outpost, since they can just add this right into the guild hall. form up three groups of four with people in your alliance, talk to an npc, and away you go.

How can anyone get excited about sealed deck? Yes i want to fight with 3 other people about how to distribute a bunch of phail skills and have 2 rage quit before we get started. Sounds like fun to me. Hopefully they can put something together that will work but i'm not expecting much.
On the heroes in PVP front it is pretty obvious why they are getting rid of it:
1) Insanely difficult AI coding. There are hundreds of skills that the heroes have to be told how to use. In a competitive format they have to use it effectivly but not too well or people will QQ.
2) Server processing time cost $. The servers have to crunch all that extra logic (see item 1) for heros where as for RL people it just processes commands. Even more so for HB as there are 6 AI per match, or 3 AI per player. So on the server side that is the most expensive per player.
3) Almost impossible to playtest. With all the combinations created in 1 and adding the different playing styles of the RL people it will be almost impossible to get rid of all the play issues unless you have an infinite amout of time and resources.
Since you are already going though the effort to make a bunch of henchmen bars, why not just make a couple more and use only henchmen for HB? That would simplify the task of skill balancing. It would definatly reduce the options that players could come up with, but it would be much easier to balance and would be a lot better than totally deleting HB. It would still be the most computationally expensive format to host, per player, but there really is no substitute for HB. HB is the only PVP format where you don't need anyone else to play and there is no real substitue for that.

Moriz, you are rude, everything you state has no real backing (HB dies without tournment support, how do you know this?) and the fact that you are losing the verbal argument without even realizing it as these guys troll you just makes it sad. You don't like HB, I'm not surprised as it does take a bit of skill to do. I got that from your first post, you can go ahead and drop it now.
Note to all: There is indeed a HB community, even if it is small. And I believe in quality over quantity. HB quality can be improved with a bit of effort.

Could someone please explain to me what is so fun about HB?
Whenever I played it, I would either run up against an Assassin with Heroes that helped them kill or a capway that would hop across the map unfazed. There was no skill (and micromanaging is not a PvP skill, it's more like an ability that lets you sit back and let your minions do all your work for you)
It also makes a mockery of PvP (its more like Environment vs Environment) and the grind for the title was so easy to accomplish that Anet even had to remove /roll. And the only reason that players in HB became halfway decent at other formats of PvP was because it made them ultra-aware of their compass (Something that GvG and HA teaches you to do from the getgo)
TA is something that used to be glorious, but that was back before Glad Title. Now, it's filled with degenerative crap like gothspike, rtlspike, MB ele teams, etc. Hell, there is only 1 balanced template in TA. But, that one balanced build in TA makes the arena 10x more fun than HB will ever be.
And if HB is used as means to make players feel like they are worth something, then PvE is the perfect place for them.
I, for one, am glad that SDA is being brought to GW(2). It actually promotes thinking, skill, coordination, and demotes gimmicks and cookie-cutter builds. Also, the only point to obsing a match on SDA (pending they make it an option) is to see who made the better build of the deck and used it to their advantage.
Also, I'm glad the Live Team is calling out their mistakes and taking responsibility for it. Thanks Linsey, welcome new guy, and good luck.

The Winning part is fun, though I think you missed that part judging by the rest of your post.
So you beat these 2 types of teams easily then?

No, it will be premade like TA currently is, but those that try to PUG will get annihilated These aren't wiki builds...they won't even know what to make.
Whether the players fail or not, old and underused skills WILL GET USED, which may spark up an interesting new *hopefully non-gimmicky* meta to be adapted in the other PvP formats. So long as Anet can deal with the massive number of noobs who are gonna Q_Q about what they were given, Sealed Play should be a Win-Win.

even though bashing moriz does sound tempting... you guys seriously need to calm down and keep it on topic.
last time i checked, ab is pretty dead. zqs and double weekend are the only time you see a decent amount of traffic. when was the last time the kurz provided any kind of competition for the lux? just look at that border. the thing is, not many care for ab, they care for kurz/lux faction--and for that they have jqs or scs or vanqs even.

You're right. I am sorry Moriz. We may not see eye to eye on aspects of GW but that was no reason for me to personally insult you, for that I apologise. *hugs*

What PvE'rs like you are soon to realize is it will be quite obvious who the PvE'rs are and who the PvP'ers are in a SD its just now you wont have an excuse like PVX to blame it all on.

the answer to that, and to your question above, is common sense and circumstantial evidence. ask yourself, do you honestly think the general GW community find it to be particularly fun to micro 3 heroes against another person doing the same? after all, this is GW, not starcraft. starcraft was built as a RTS, GW was built as a team-based RPG. if i want to play a RTS, i'll go play one; not a RPG that's trying to be a RTS and failing at it.
and the general GW community would likely agree with me. even WITH AT support and a ladder. HB is a sparsely populated place. during ATs and mATs, more often than not, over half of the contestants will forfeit. the majority of the rest will /roll to determine the winner (at least the did before the /roll command was removed in pvp). even with tournament support, it is evident that HB is not popular. now, how popular do you think it would be if there's no tournament support? common sense would say that it would be even more unpopular, possibly to the point that it would be completely empty.
and lastly, YOU are rude also. you have no knowledge of me, nor my intellect, nor my ability to play this game. you are very correct in saying that i'm bad at HB. after all, i don't play it because i know i won't enjoy it. however, you have no right to pass judgement on how well i can play every other pvp form. for all we know, i'm likely to be better than you are.
r0bert8841
What skillz do you have? I am sure you have picked up lots of them from PvE like c+space, and kill monk first, watch the red bars when healing, necros have unlimited energy, pulling, etc... I better watch out because those are some pretty valuable skills right their.
