Guild Wars – The Return of Mad King Thorn

It's Halloween in Tyria, and that means one thing: the return of Mad King Thorn ! Similar to years past, the maniacal monarch has come to play, and he's got a bag full of tricks and treats to delight and dismay. But non-tricksters fear not, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Halloween – participate in several special events (a new series of quests and a costume PvP brawl) or explore the decorated cities/towns adorned with Halloween décor.

· Ends: Monday, November 2, 2009

Been refreshing for quite awhile, but since business started, I wasn't able to keep an eye on it.

New quests? Ok, after Friday, Saturday, and most likely Sunday full of CB, I think I'll have to try them.

I don't remember ever playing Brawl, so I am curious - is it possible to RR it?
Or do you choose the side you enter for?

There's an update this week, and I'm assuming from the curious absence of the log-in announcement so far this week that it is probably the Halloween update and they need to type it all up.

Hopefully we'll find out today about the new quests.

Um, what pumpkin crown? If you mean the one in the banner at the top of the page, that's obviously not from GW.

It is possible but since you're with other people they also have to agree making it much harder to RR.
Theoretically you can RR gvg and ha.

Intriguing...

I'm going to have to guess that the new quest line reward will be a batch of Halloween themed Summoning Stones - summoning Mad King's Guards of course (they already have a skillbar).

Of course I'd be delighted with new art, miniatures or functional Halloween headwear, but there seems to be a clear gap in the seasonal summons (a minion master summon would be kind of cool anyways).

You can't RR costume brawl. The format is random team. It's just not going to happen, without some massive collusion or districts which are designated as cheaters (like all the cheaters go to Japan 1).

I assume they just utilize Underworld landscapes, like some of the Wintersday quests do - of course if they don't and use the actual Underworld that'd be quite the surprise.

Doubly intriguing that a] Mad King Thorn is getting a nemesis or some established villain is returning (assuming it's not all a prank and MKT isn't the Big Bad in the Underworld himself) and b] they're stressing that this new content is for this year only.

I cannot think why they would restrict it so, unless it has some unexpected timing stipulation e.g. a tie in to GW2 or a global change (such as scrapping the Favor system

).

Yay! Quests - Something new to do for my favorite holiday!

Thank you Live Team (and Arenanet in general). It sounds like you guys put in a lot of work to make it happen and I for one appreciate it, especially considering how busy it must be just designing and implementing a new PvP system from scratch.

Otherwise I'm looking forward to my old favorites returning.

There is no reason to RR costume brawl. You don't get enough faction/rewards for the effort. Now, if there was a Costume Brawl Z-quest....

You will find out about the quests in-game.

We wouldn't want to spoil it. It wouldn't be a surprise/mystery if we told you everything ahead of time.

Hoping they will add a new NPC to turn Festival headgear into armor. But unless that is one of the secrets, I'll have to wait for Wintersday for that to occur.... if it will.

New quests are always nice. I'm guessing it will be a rehash of the Wintersday quests, but you never know.

The quests are up for 8 days. If somebody can't find time to do a couple quests in that amount of time, they need a new job.

Hates are always cute, it's one of the characteristics.

Quests tied in with announcement for GW2 seems logical like someone else said. Would also mean (probably) we have GW2 before next years Halloween

Edit: Vulturion mentioned GW2 on page 1

One time only......let's think of why:

Regina has an evil plan to crash the GW servers, which will in turn get the company to buy better servers.

Anet wants to give exact figures on the amount of people playing so they can promote sales. Look at the 10million people we have playing right now! We beat WOW.

The underworld (where the quests are held) is being shut down because of permasins.

The underworld next year will have enviro effects and anet is too lazy to code around it.

Next year will have totally new quests.

A mini regina will come into kamadan and slay mad king and his guards and regina will lead the future halloween events. A new henchmen replacing the mad kings guard will be the Linsey Guard.

Wow these quests sound pretty cool!
They make me think there will be a proper impact on the story, maybe something to do with are big enemy behind the mox situation? Or something that causes HB to die and instead introduce the sealed deck lol

RR wont happen. Quit talking about it people. It's prominent in HB because it's only 2 people. Costume Brawl has bigger teams and bigger teams wont do that.

Plus, the Costume Brawl is fun. HB was god-awful and gimmicky (if you played it long enough to realize that). Oh, and the rewards aren't worth resigning for.

^that's what im saying, just enjoy it if you want. these RR people get on my nerves, mostly the people that complain about it more than the ones doin it. Its like trying to organise RR in other pvp, like RA or GVG....i can't immagine that workin out

lol people would just start killing eachother anyway meaning a party would have wasted time.
