Maybe time for better servers

It's a pity tre peter asked to close his thread about Debilitated Farming Skills, Killed u man. You could have hopped right in and continue the discussion on how Anet is trying to chase away their players.
Killed u man
Tough, they don't want to chase away players.
They want players to leave on their own, and come back for GW2.

yeah we also have server issues once a while due to power failure at datacenter we lost connection with some of the servers, due to previously unknown bug in BIND, new build unexpectedly decreased performance and caused some connections to drop etc etc.
List is long and is valid for so many IT companies. I would never though someone would hamper their servers on purpose. There are so many possible unforeseen issues which may happen everyday. So some of you are suggesting they just shut their servers once a while just for fun? Or kill connections on purpose? During every shutdown of a server there is a risk that it will not go back soon. Do you really think they would risk it just like this?
And most important: Do not give them ideas!

I know alot can go wrong with servers. Having followed 2 years of IT in college (But then I quit cuz it was so boring), I know the basics of servers.
But there's a difference between a post-update glitch, which usually gets solved within the day, or people lagging out, well... ever since EOTN came out.
As I said, this is no mere glitch, or error in code. That would be an explanation of hundreds of people lagging out every day... What we're dealing with is not enough/low quality servers. (As I said before, Anet is saving money here, everyone knows that)
If you play any other game, be it Runescape or WoW, you immediatly feel the difference in quality. Offcourse, these games are pay2play, but if that counts as a counter-arguement, than Anet is supplying false information. As I recall, it doesn't say: "No monthly fees & Shitty server quality" on the GW-box, it simply says "No monthly fee". So you ASSUME GW will offer every aspect of a decent MMO (Which is does gameplay wise), but you also ASSUME it will have a decent state of servers, otherwise you wouldn't be able to play the friggin game.
And again, obs the amount of HA matches where people have dc'd somewhere in the run. (Almost every second HoH map, there's a henchie -an old one-)
And most teams simply resign out when they have a DC, so you're not even seeing the full extend of the lagging out.
But I don't think anyone will argue with the fact servers suck. It's just that Anet hasn't done anything about this for years now. So even if not directly, they are chasing ppl away with the state of their servers. And again, you have to be pretty naive to assume Anet doesn't realize the fact shitty servers = save money.

Sources are your friend, Killed u man. You can claim all you want about Anet neglecting servers because it would cost them money, but in the end, those claims are unfounded.
The only one who has that information is Anet, and I don't think they are going to share that.

I'm going to share some thoughts on this.
I don't play as much as I used to, but there are several things I noticed.
When I play with my guildies there are several things that can happen.
1. I d/c alone.
2. Several specific players d/c
3. Random players d/c
4. All d/c
1. When I alone d/c it's very often because my network connection in home goes down or has problems. Thanks wireless on Vista with subpar hardware and drivers.
I hardly experience those problems with my laptop.
2. I share the same provider as several guildies and we relatively close together. It happens once in a while that we get d/c at the same time (not playing same instance) while others don't experience problems. Fair chance I can blame the ISP.
3. We've had this problem in the guild for a while, some people in an instance d/c, others remain. No real cause to find. We don't live in the same country nor will follow the same network router. This is a difficult situation to find a cause.
4. When all d/c, specially in different instances I'd say the problem is close to GW data center or in it.
Main routers and such stuff are likely the cause, could be server related.
I think the same applies to d/c in places with lots of active players (like weekend events).
When you ask me what is going on I'd say there are some serious issues with network on which A-net is partly to blame. I'm not sure if it's the servers or routers, I'm more thinking about overoptimizing the network code which results in lost connections. Remember, internet traffic is expensive for companies like A-net, maybe even more than servers. They would try as much as possible to keep it to a bare minimum.
However, I know several problems originate from ISP's and even home computers. Could also be (partly) related to the network code or even the way the code works on various operating systems.
If I was to investigate the lag and d/c issues starting with what I know at this moment I would start at the application (both client and server side) and not the servers.
Next would be routers. Then servers.
It could be that pc X with ISP Y has a connection with 201ms because of traffic load at the ISP and home network/pc load and GW expects 200ms max.
This would cause rather random problems because the home and ISP speeds can change because of something happening.
Just my 2c.

You can only really blame anet if alot of people are d/cing at the time you are.
As some may remember the old lagg threads, people blamed ANet. I had terrible lagg when i was with my old ISP, but now ive changed providers.. no lagg whatsoever. (unless there truly is something wrong on ANet's end)
Check with your ISP if your getting lagg atm, because i surely am not.

Like I said before: Instead of whining, tracert, pathping, pingplotter please. If it's a-net's problem, that data will help them fix it. If it's not a-net's problem, that data will help you learn to shut up. Sounds win/win to me.

Lag happens are threads really needed?

Anet won't fix the lag spikes from festivals because they don't have the servers for it. Most of the lag I have comes from new updates (surge of players) and events.
Anet should not invest in anymore servers- it's a waste of money. The game is four years old and the population will move onto GW2 when it's released.

The lag's becoming unbearable. I can't connect all day, not even to the characters in my GH... Its just stays on 100%.
Stupid servers.

I hope the above prove the pay-monthly-fee WoW servers are far superior than we-don't-care-anymore-about-our-players GW ones
Right?

Forgot to mention I had MSN and Skype running in the background

I haven't had any problems with lag today. If anything it's better than it usually is.
