Debilitated Farming Skills - ArenaNet's Benefit
Mustache Mayhem
sounds like most people in this thread want to drag everyone else down to their level.. my opinion anyway
sf is just another tool in the shed.. the way I see it, makes runs way faster than other builds.. it's not that you can't do them without sf, it's just the best method
anyone who runs sf without cons will tell you.. the health spike usually means your death- and with cons.. what's to complain about? the farmers will just move onto whatever gets the fastest results..
pugs have always sucked to high heaven.. I can't even remember the last time I was in a pug.. either h/h or go with friends- like with assassin I can h/h fendi's in hm record time.. all the nerf will do is make the price of the bds go up- not to mention voltaic spears
who do you think farms those things? and you with no skill buy them- prices go up not down when it takes farmers longer to get.. this nerf won't matter much- it will make things more expensive though which doesn't hurt the farmers at all.. it hurts you guys XD

Dedicated, hard-core farmers aren't going to leave GW because SF gets nerfed. Those players will work to come up with the next great thing. Lots of people had a knee-jerk reaction to the change in CoP - quite a bit of QQ went on until, about 10 minutes after the update, people figured out that there is a way to use the new CoP more effectively than the old version - they adapted! The same thing happened with the new UW stuff, the dedicated farmers adapted to the new situation and now mobway is being used by the former UWSC permas.
The whiney QQers who throw a tantrum and leave GW because A-Net is taking away their "toy" are more than welcome, as far as I'm concerned, to piss-off & good riddance.

Skimming through the other threads, I haven't seen this directly addressed. Please close if this already exists.
The recent update # and Regina's related comments # have given rise to debate on the future of farming/speed clears. In these discussions, it appears that forum users are addressing the resulting issues that affect themselves (as players) and the state of the game. The point of this thread is to speculate on ArenaNet's point-of-view, something I believe some forum users are overlooking. To quote Regina, Based on this, I have made the following assumption - changes will involve 'nerfing' in order to render them ineffective for farming. The nerf will be significant to hit nearly all of farming at its heart. Many are open about how farming is their main source of satisfaction from playing Guild Wars. If their available farming options are removed, it is reasonable to assume that there may be a mass departure (depending on the distribution of current play-styles) from the game. In my opinion, it makes sense for ArenaNet's to remove the incentive of a large group of players to log on. As a result, there will be;
Of course people will adapt - perhaps farm on at a reduced rate or try to discover the next effective farm. In dispute to my 'good business' remark, I imagine some will claim that such an action will deter them from buying future ArenaNet products. Only time will tell if there is enough true 'abstainers' to hurt ArenaNet's pockets. TL/DR version - ArenaNet nerf farming to purposely reduce player numbers to benefit from reduced server costs etc. Good business on their side. I'd like to note that I currently farm (for HoM) while playing Guild Wars and would significantly reduce my activity in the case of such a 'nerf'. |
I will tell you something, it seems Anet finally realised that when elite and top instances of the game (such as FOW, UW) are soloed by single character or build or couple of overpowered team builds which clear the area faster few times than 'balanced' and 'pug' groups, then something is deeply wrong.
These areas were introduced to give all players (mainly organised guilds for ease of organisation and communication, but not only) something to do once they beat the campaign. These areas were introduced with easy to understand principle - henchmen are out, because we want people to make human teams and we want to encourage full human teams since it's a team-based game - that was the game synopsis, be it pvp or pve - balanced team environment when TEAMS of people compete in different challenges and EVERY class can participate, since EVERY class skills and powers bring something useful to the team.
It was back at the times Guild Wars wasn't 'Single Player Online' yet and farming builds slowly started to pop in the surface. Though, there is much difference between theory and practise and it turned out they couldn't get the game balance right after GWF expansion ... it also turned out they paid not enough attention to pve content (for the bigger part they ignored it), so they had no experience balancing it. Thus, 'free vanquisher for everyone' in form of Ursan, super farm for everyone in form of SF sin and Ele builds all around the place and many other ...
Last but not least, if you think it's possible to eliminate farming builds by nerfing skills/making mobs stronger then no, it's impossible. They want it to stay in the game, but certainly not in a level which is detrimental to teamplay spirit. Actually, I blame them for not doing shit for ages. If they wanted to 'just' eliminate farming, then they would make it impossible to enter any instance solo. Instance can take 8 ppl? You need 8 ppl or can't enter, as easy as that.
But they didn't do that. Why so much drama now? So much drama because they went to the roots of this game and saw what's rotten? Perhaps you all farmers around there forgot what this game was all about. It's no longer something so unimportant and naive like griffon farming, ettin farming, hydra farming or troll farming. It's about soloing entire instances which were supposed to be hardest locations in the game with best rewards.

This is exactly the type of trolling I'd anticipate out of a guild wars guru moderator.

Anet has already started this long ago. They purposely ban many accounts and blamed an unidentified hacker for it. Hence, during that "hacked" period, we were able to play with less lag since less people were able to access the server due to this "hack." Since many of the old guild wars players have already quit the game, this ban deemed to be the most efficient way to reduce the numbers of players (Not so many of those old players bother to check their guild wars accounts because they have moved onto better games). Hence, they were able to reduce the up-keep cost for the server.

That's a pretty serious accusation and I wouldn't doubt if someone could press a lawsuit or something to that effect should it be true... but then you can't prove this can you? because the threads certainly don't prove it.

Some players don't even know how to contact support via the support website. This ban incident could also prevent these unfortunate players who don't know how to contact support via their website from accessing their accounts. Since I am a selfish person, this seemed to be the right thing to do in my opinion. It improves my gameplay. It shouldn't matter whether or not this incident is true or false. What matters is that the current players can enjoy the game to its fullest extent and that is to play with less lag, though there is still lag in the game.

They could do a server run-back to restore all that were loss in the hacked event. Instead, they chose to block access to ALL accounts. Why would they block all accounts instead of doing a server run-back that could just easily fix the problem?

Do you even know if they CAN roll back account information? Is that within their capability? Would it roll back account information for everyone else? How many people would freak out about not being able to get into their account because they changed their password during that period?
They chose a wise route, and it had the desired result. Stop being ridiculous, and stop stating silly speculation as if it were fact.

Apologies people, I have to admit that this was a weak trolling QQ attempt to vent my frustration (all of which was slightly chemically aided) that we might lose Obsidian Flesh. It's so absurd it's hard to read what I wrote. Wasn't even good trolling. Would love to see this thread die to prevent any further embarrassment...
I look forward to any changes to the game, keeps things interesting. Even if they changed Assassin's Promise (favourite skill), I'd probably still play.

Right then. Gonna give this one a nice close.
